I liked Mass Effects story, no, its not original, but it goes about the unoriginal in a compelling way. I also liked Mirror's Edge, but it seems i'm the only one who actually payed attention and listened when they explained the story.

My vote goes to most JRPGS, because they follow such a strictly linear set of guidelines. Its like Square Enix produces a JRPG story checklist for all JRPG developers to follow.

Any game before or during the 8-bit era.
Most of them literally have no story whatsoever, just wacky premises.
To be fair, that's what made them amazing. I mean, it's great that Sonic wants to save the bunnies and birds because he's a nice guy, he doesn't have a motive!

On a more serious note, worst story ever...Blue Dragon. That is sooooooooooooo flawed.

Sentinal 2, absolutely ancient game which i bought dirt cheap and then realised it was shocking.

Heres the plot

You are a blob thing
You have to absorb this sentinal thing by getting higher than it
There are 300 levels of this

If you think i'm exaggurating in any way i'm not, that is literally what the game was. There was no tutorial of any kind so you just had to press buttons until stuff happened to figure out what did what. (movement wasnt dont by clicking, wsad, arrow keys, anything with any sense).

Oh it was such a terrible game that i would've paid to give it away if it hadnt mysteriously vanished one day. I suspect the government destroyed it to prevent something so bad exsisting for too long.

Halo - robot with gun shoot aliens.
Halo has a lot of story to it,
It's got a series of books.
Seriosly i read a lot of books and know how a good story look. Halo just don't cut it. No matter how much you tart it up it still is : robot with gun shoot aliens.
Yeah it try to have subplots and stuff but with main hero with no personality it just isn't working. If you want to see how good story is told try Grim Fandango.

Final Fantasy 8. Worst RPG I have ever played, it's story was a fucking train wreck.
The story wasn't that bad for a JRPG, but it did have its share of plot holes. Still, its silly to play a JRPG for the story. Its all about characters, world and gameplay.

Still, Link's awakening was bad, storywise.
I mean, really bad.

Also, Search button.

But they are written by other people, and are not actually part of the game's story. By game's story I mean the one you actually get to play. The Halo story was meh, nothing special. My vote for worst story, Ninja Gaiden.

Silly to play a JRPG for story, HEY!! :p I like JRPG stories, just 8's was a painful experience for me, and it wasn't just the story that made me hate it, the gameplay was an abomination to me as well. But thats just my take on it.

I dunno... Its just that so many JRPGs have gaping holes in their storyline. (Don't get me started on Shadow Hearts) I think part of it is about pushing the envelope on the suspension of belief.
FF8 wasn't quite a JRPG in my opinion, rather a game with random parts of Japanese culture inserted in the game, and a few characters that were anime steriotypes. (Namely Zell. I'd say Selphie, too, but I know someone who has a disturbingly similar personality)
As a whole, it skirted the edge in an often uncomfortable way, being rational and reasonable fiction 'till you hit the things directly involving the sorceress powers, and you get rediculus things like time compression and the all-too-convenient amnesia.
I've mentally ostracised those parts, so I do have a somewhat peachy view of the story, true.

First of all, Master Chief is no robot, he's not even a cyborg or an android. Second, Halo's story has length of 3 games PLUS numerous novels that goes beyond most games out there.Oh and it was actually on a top 100 list of best novels (includes all types of novels). I'm a huge fanboy, by the way. GAAAAAAa

He has quite a bit of personality, you obviously never read the books, and he's not a robot.

Yeah i know he is just a some sort of soldier wearing some power armor. Plus he is "TRUE" hero, wich means he always save the day and is perfect in everything he does. For me if the main hero is too cool and perfect it is a draw back. A true hero should have rough edges and exactly that will make him/her more realistic and easy to like.

Again, if you read the books you will find that the Master Chief does fit that criteria.

Only if you read the books though.

Once again, read the books, he has a lot of rough edges, and he doesn't always succeed, namely having his entire squad killed in front of him, and not being able to do a thing about it. Or having to leave one of his squad in a ship they were blowing up, because his suit was punctured.

So does Twilight.

Speaking of Twilight, Twilight wins this thread.
Erm...I think this relates to games only....unless they made a twilight game....did they?
