First of all, Master Chief is no robot, he's not even a cyborg or an android. Second, Halo's story has length of 3 games PLUS numerous novels that goes beyond most games out there.Oh and it was actually on a top 100 list of best novels (includes all types of novels). You're either one of those people that rip on a game they know nothing about or you're a fanboy that hates Halo because it has ruined your love for your games.
I know he isn't a robot, but he can be and it will not make any difference. Nothing personal but there is shit load of things that you can do that are better than idolasing a faceless dork with big gun.

And if I am fan boy of something it will be Malazan Book of The Fallen. Cuz that is the right stuff, plot so big that i seven book (i have read only 7 so far) we still don't know who is THE BIG BAD GUY(tm).

Star Ocean 3 gets my vote. It was horribly paced, generic, yet convoluted, and at at numerous occasions, complete and utter bullshit! Seriously, a the first gaint space ship you see since, like the beginning of the game gets shot down by a giant laser beam eminating from the main character's forehead! I honestly had to just shut the game off and trade it in at Gamestop when I saw that. I got $2 for it. I still think they paid me too much for it.

...alongside a variety of interesting characters in an action-packed sci-fi story involving lose, betral, and the dangers of bigotry.

Seriously, "[insert random generic character] with guns kills [insert generic enemies]" is the premise of every shooter ever made. However, there's a lot more to a story than just its basic premise.

Oh, and by the way, in an FPS the main character is you. Yes, he has a name, and a face, and maybe some minor backstory, but he's just a vessel for you to project yourself into. If they gave him a actual personality(like, say, making him a complete dick like in most FPS's), then it's just gonna make it harder for you to get into character.

Halo has a lot of story to it,
It's got a series of books.
So does Twilight.

Speaking of Twilight, Twilight wins this thread.
Erm...I think this relates to games only....unless they made a twilight game....did they?
if they did, god help us all

Super Mario Sunshine, it wasn't a bad game but when I try to understand the plot it gives me a headache. Sonic and The Secret Rings was absolutely appalling but then again its sonic what the hell were we expecting.

Seriosly i read a lot of books and know how a good story look. Halo just don't cut it. No matter how much you tart it up it still is : robot with gun shoot aliens.

Yeah it try to have subplots and stuff but with main hero with no personality it just isn't working. If you want to see how good story is told try Grim Fandango.
He has quite a bit of personality, you obviously never read the books, and he's not a robot.
Yeah i know he is just a some sort of soldier wearing some power armor. Plus he is "TRUE" hero, wich means he always save the day and is perfect in everything he does. For me if the main hero is too cool and perfect it is a draw back. A true hero should have rough edges and exactly that will make him/her more realistic and easy to like.
Once again, read the books, he has a lot of rough edges, and he doesn't always succeed, namely having his entire squad killed in front of him, and not being able to do a thing about it. Or having to leave one of his squad in a ship they were blowing up, because his suit was punctured.
Yes and that is in the books we are talking about the friking games. I have read some disturbing fanfics but that don't make him gay for crying out loud.

(Oh God I am arguing with bunch of fanboys. How low can I sink?!?!)

So you admit you read gay fanfic's about master chief then?
Well in that case I no longer value your opinion enough to continue this conversation.

Oh, and other than Link's Awakening and SHadow Hearts, I've gotta put FF7 here.
Biggest "WTF" in gaming ever, complicated further by the spin-offs.
And I'm sorry, but I've made multiple efforts to figure out what the Hell is going on in that game, and its still an enigma to me. I think I have an idea of what's going on, but in the same way I understand Postmodernism.

Shining Soul 2. It had absurdly long unskippable cut scenes that only made me despise the characters even more. The ending was especially egregious.

hmm...I never understood how people could get confused by FF7's story. Yea it's not too straight forward but...super confusing? It's like half life 2 (dare I say), the clues and information and there and spread about, you just gotta really pay attention.

If you could provide a site with a synopsis, please link me to it.

Oh, and considering that there's a Desperate Housewives game...

Resident Evil games for me because they don't really need a story except to put together gun fights and bosses, even though cutscenes are fun to see. (no i'm not going to say Onechanbara because if I keep mentioning it in any "worst of" topic I feel like I'll turn into one of those "anti-fanboys" who rant on everything)

hrm..I am afriad I don't know any good site that would be of much use. A long time ago I stumbled upon this brilliant essay about the games symbolism, but if you need clarification on something you need only ask. Give specific examples on what your confused about and I can make them as clear as i possibly can.

Desperate housewives game? dear lord...that sounds worse than the Hells kitchen game.

Far Cry 1 for the PC.

It's plot in a nutshell:
You: "Cool, I'm on a bunch of islands surrounded by mercenaries. But what are they all guarding?"

Generic guide guy: "YOU DON"T NEED TO KNOW!"

You: "Oh oka- WTF giant mutant monkies? What the hell?"

Generic guide guy:"Don't worry. They aren't experimenting on humans or anything like that. Cause you know. that'd be too evil."

*2 missions later*

You: "HOLY SHIT! Mutant humans! But why are they doing this?"

Generic bad guy:"I'm creating the next step in evolution or something, now I'm gonna mutate and make you fight me, okay?"

*You fight and kill bad guy*

Generic guide guy:"Haha, I was betraying you all along!!!"

You:"...why?"

Generic guide guy:"Um... because of money, and greed, and stuff."

It's a good thing the game was so damn fun.
