Ooh.. Haze would be one, the whole drugs and profit margin thing which i gave up on as soon as i heard.

Next would be GTA vice city, too generic for my own liking.

Halo, but bits did make up for it.

Battlefield 2142 has a generic end of the world thing.

The people that go to the alley he hangs around in with said pills?

Agreeing with Final Fantasy 8, though all the Final Fantasy's have never been good or original, starting with 3.

1. Evil empire is doing evil things. Rebel groups fight them.
2. Evil empire is destroyed, real villain appears.
3. Rebel group destroys real villain.
4. ????
5. PROFIT!

That's a bit of a generalization, but it's good to know that Squenix likes Star Wars.

Haze. The story isn't absolutely terrible, but it's so annoyingly 'in your face' that it kicks you out of the immersion at pretty much every cutscene. Especially at the end. I finished the game to get to this horrible piece of storytelling? I almost threw it out the window.

Now see Mass Effect might not have the most original story but it is presented in such a clever and unique way that I don't mind. It's full of great action scenes, powerful acting, likeable well rounded characters, a genuine sense of urgency, an unravelling plot with a few twists and turns, love, revenge and friendship along the way.
It feels so much like that big science fiction epic that I've been waiting for cinemas to give me for long enough (you know once they leave Star Wars the fuck alone).

Also for the last time... stop quoting Yahtzee who onl experianced the VERY END of the Halo story before you judge Halo, I made a massive post on that already and I am in no mood to repeat myself.

Honestly I'm going to have to award worst story of all time to..... Turok.
There are some marines fighting dinosaurs on a distant planet.
Pulitzer prize material there.

Agreed on Mass Effect. Cliches abound, but they're presented so well it seems original. As for Halo, the story is actually decent. I've always felt that people who reduce it to...well, quote's like Yahtzee's are just seeing what they want to see.

As for Turok, I assume you're talking about the recent reboot. Yeah, it's too bad, because the first one and (especially) Seeds of Evil were actually fairly original. And I still love Seeds of Evil.

The Metal Gear Solid series, especially MGS3. MGS4 also looks pretty atrocious, but I haven't played it.

Everything about the MGS series is a fucking train wreck of bad storytelling. The series is so caught up in the minutiae of its mythology that it forgets about delivering a coherent plot (the same problem helped to ruin the Star Wars prequels). And the writing! Oh, the writing! Imagine if a 13 year old emo kid wrote an epic poem about Rambo and you'd have an approximation of the quality of the dialogue in MGS.

I fought through the pain and beat MGS 1 and 2 because of the quality of game play. I gave up on 3 halfway through when it became unbearable.

This deserves caps.
ARMY OF 2. It made no sense at all, it was a loose sequence of verbs and proper nouns between different texture packs.

Assassin's Creed wins this one for me for its stupid premise and it's stupider ending.

HL2 gets honorable mention for its uneasy and largely random shift in story between HL and HL2. However, once your into it, its good.

Beyond good and evil had a shitty story. I hated it.
So did Viewtiful joe. I loved it.
A lot of nintendo games.
Hated the story of GTA4 too.
Condemned went downhill as well.

I liked Mass Effects story, no, its not original, but it goes about the unoriginal in a compelling way. I also liked Mirror's Edge, but it seems i'm the only one who actually payed attention and listened when they explained the story.

My vote goes to most JRPGS, because they follow such a strictly linear set of guidelines. Its like Square Enix produces a JRPG story checklist for all JRPG developers to follow.
I hate Square Enix; their games blow. Personally, i would have to go with Jericho.
