I know that feel, bro. That, and people generally being thankless when I gave them advice they sought made me take a year of refusing to help anyone in any way. It was therapeutic, but a horrible thing to be driven to.

OT: Turned out to be incredibly racist, but that wasn't to me. She had a horrible streak of not keeping appointments, though, and several times I only find out not to get on X bus or train by happening to mention the date plan to her the night before/hours before. Like she never even thought to tell me she was canceling.

Of course, while I was sleeping with her, and we hung out a lot, its status as an actual relationship was somewhat unconfirmed. If we're not counting her, then my previous girlfriend cheated on me, broke up with me out of shame, and then proceeded to cut me out of her life, shortly before our exams.

Funny seeing this thread here, I literally just got stood up today.

We're not officially a 'couple' yet, but she gets fed up if I don't text her every day or two, and always says how she 'can't wait to see me'. You can imagine my surprise then when she simply doesn't meet me where we'd agreed today.

I text her 5 minutes into waiting for her - no response. Okay, maybe she's lost track of time, I know she was out with friends last night, and she's terrible at responding to her phone, so it makes sense.

20 minutes after that I try to call her a couple of times - nothing. By this point it's starting to rain on me.

Another 5 minutes later, I text her that I'm done waiting and am going home. Only then do I get a reply:

Fuck that. We agreed to meet at 2pm, she was up at fucking 9ish this morning on Facebook, but she's too hungover to drop me a text or something? I'd have been much happier to just cancel.

"Worst thing she did" wouldn't really be the best way of putting it. I suffer from a pretty severe chronic depression, but at the time I hadn't gotten the diagnose. I have a tendency to "shut down" more and more the worse I feel, and if there's ever an angle where I can take the blame for something I'm predisposed to do it, even it the logic behind it might be total bullshit. She never understood that, and just assumed I was angry or bored with her a lot of the time when I shut down, and never really understood what I was doing when I turned every argument into a talk about how shit I was.

So yeah. Since that's the "worst" I can think of I'm absolutely positive she's going to make some other man very happy.

The one prior was a lot more interesting: slammed my hand in a door, threw a cast-iron frying pan at me (I know, stereotypical but true and made me absolutely neurotic about being near phones when she wasn't around, on the off chance that she'd call me. Only good thing about that (three year) relationship was that I definitely wasn't the crazy one.

Flat out cheated on me behind my back, then hid it from me when they should have just come clean immediately. I had to find out about it after checking around out of concern for suddenly not seeing them for a few days, to see that they'd gleefully bragged about their actions on one of their online haunts, and was too busy gallivanting around with the idiot to bother to let me know they were still alive. Yeah.

This would normally be a zero tolerance thing, but I had several considerations on the matter to make. For one, it had been our first major problem together in over a year; we were otherwise wonderful together. For another, their previous experiences and own outlook on jumping others' bones was quite loose before, both in how they treated others and how they'd been treated up to that point, with very little perspective on a stable, communicative relationship. I believed it was more a combination of impulse and prior experience kicking in than a reflection of their lack of respect for me or what we have, and that seeing the consequences of their selfishness and stupidity has shown them how not to go about such conflicts of interest. Some lessons have to be taught first hand, I suppose.

I've also made it clear that if they pull that shit again, they can kiss the only stability, trust, understanding, and willingness to see them for who they really are rather than who they're wanted to be goodbye. They may not have known the stakes or the consequences before; I'm willing to accept that. But they know now, and if they play with fire twice, I'm going to leave them to get burned, no matter how much I love them or feel they've become an integral part of my life. They've already permanently damaged me and our union with their carelessness, but I'm willing to live with that. Thinking they'll get away with it a second time when they fully know the stakes is only going to serve as an example of what selfishness can cost you, and with luck, it's not a lesson I'll have to teach.

Last "official" girlfriend? Hmm...

We had only been dating a few weeks and things seemed to be going rather well. We make plans to go to a comedy club. I call her that night to see if she'd ready and I don't get an answer. I drive to her house and no one is there. I text her and head out to the club. The show was decent, but the place is packed and I'm the only one sitting by himself, sad I know. Didn't hear from her at all that night.

The next morning I text trying to make sure that she is OK. A few hours later I finally get a phone call. It seems that her friend had a huge falling out with her husband, which involved a trip to the hospital, a police report and her filing for divorce. She got mixed up in everything and needs to be there for her, which I agreed with; talk about a shitty situation.

A few days later I call to talk and she doesn't respond. A few days after that I get a text saying she's been a really shitty girlfriend and she'll try to make time for me soon after things blow over. A week later I shoot her an email basically laying everything down; I'm only willing to wait if she asks me to, but if she can't take 5 minutes out of her day to talk to me, even to vent, then I know where I stand, and I'm going to walk away.

I never heard from her again. I still dropped off her birthday present the next week.
