This. Not only does the camera fucking hate you when you're on a jetski, you can't move and shoot, and there's all these random explody barrels everywhere. Bag of piss.

Am I the only person who actually enjoyed the driving section in GoW?

The airboat in HL2 officially drove me up the wall. However the car section was cool.

I've heard a lot of people complain about the Mako in Mass Effect and the airboat and car in Half-Life 2. Personally, I had no problems at all with the Mako. The airboat was a little long and a little frustrating in some parts, but overall was a pretty fun challenge (taking down the heli was satisfying, and you got to get out of the boat at a couple parts to stretch yer legs :D). I haven't played the car part yet, so I can't talk about that.

However, I did really hate the hoverboard/car or whatever in Jak II. That game tried way too hard to be like GTA, I wish it was more like the first one.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who couldn't stand the HL2 airboat. Admittedly, I was playing on a console and I understand that the game is a lot more hamhanded on console, but still, my experience could be best summed up as "TURN LEFT, NOT BACK UP RIGHT, YOU FUCKING FUCKED-UP PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT!!"

My poor religious housemate would just come and quietly close the door to the room I was in. Wise of her, I think, given the circumstances.

The tank and jumpjet segments of Crysis drove me insane. The 2-man jeep part of FarCry wasn't much better on my sanity. The worst though, the lava surfboarding in Conker's Bad Fur Day.
the tank had me inventing new swear words until i just said "fuck it" then went on foot, chased the entire way across the map by 2 helicopters who can see through stealth mode, dodging tanks until finally i got a rocket launcher and killed the bastard copters

Dead Rising: Standard aiming was a ***** but if you wanted the Real Mega Buster you better prepare for 3 hours of the worst driving I have seen (BTW, I have the whole mega-man suit so it's sorta worth it)

So is it just me being a freak that I find ALL of these vehicle sections really easy?

My worst vehicle section was on COD4 when you were a turret on a plane, and were meant to shoot st people hundreds of feet below you. it took me about 10 tries to realise who were friendslies.

As for others, I don't really get your difficulties with driving... One thing I WILL say though is playing Crysis on Delta, you kinda HAVE to use invisibility while in a vehicle. If you don't you are minced meat, if you do, please have the common sense to slow down before a turn or a tree or something V_V. Oh and don't forget that a VTOL CAN STRAFE. As for the tank driving section, I just kept moving, you fire and keep moving, look around if you need slightly. I think I skipped killing 2 or 3 other tanks, and just made my way through that bit VERY quickly.

As for the HL2 driving sections, I suggest you use a computer. Past that I have no clue why you would have any problems. The driving was fairly intuitive, and there was nothing that stood out. The only time I can remember having any difficulty was when bombs were dropping around me, and I'm not sure which HL ep this was in, but I played them all, and the original HL.

Thing that pissed me off most about crysis is the difficulty of killing vehicles on the hardest setting, Helicopters were a bloody nuisance even if I had a mounted turret nearby, and tanks. They were bitches. I even got on the top of a tank after killing a person, and tried to board it, NOTHING. you would have thought a tactical operative with a highly advanced nanosuit would be able to ENTER A TANK through the hole where a turreter got up to shoot at you. SERIOUSLY. I eventually ended up getting pissed off at a tank and after driving several cars into it I jsut started shooting it with a rifle and it exploded. This made me want to throw my mouse accross the room. good times.

To finish off. In halo I found the warthog sterring MEGA easy after a few minutes getting accustomed to the controlles, so far that I managed to in halo 1 get the warthog up past the trees and through hunters (that took some work). I can still mow peopledown fairly easily, and on ANY halo I can make a warthog do a roll and return to a stable driving position generally. Makes for great looking turns at high speed ^^.

jeez, I know it's bad, but is it really that bad? lol

all of the HL2 driving sections, partly because I played them on 360, and there were about 50 alternate control schemes that would've been better than the one they chose.

Gears of War on single player was pretty bad, and could probably have been taken care of in a cutscene (or just left to the imagination). mostly the fact that you had to both drive and shoot, and couldn't let AI take care of either (though that might've been a good thing considering how suicidal the normal ally AI is).

My only complaint about the Half-Life 2 vehicle sections was that they were too long. In general, Half-Life 2 seemed to drag on for a while in the early sections. Funny that this feeling vanished with the episodes, when Alyx accompanied you all the time. The airboat section was truly awesome at parts. The buggy? Not so much. The jalopy? Well, it wasn't the best vehicle section, but you had Alyx in the passenger seat.

The worst vehicle section I have played (and I haven't played many) was Gears of War. It felt out of place, and isn't the point of getting into a fast vehicle to make you more mobile and either run circles around enemies or just run them over? Instead, you go up against a foe that can fly circles around YOU.

For the record, I was of the opinion that BF1942 aircraft were made hard to fly DELIBERATELY. It made sense in my mind - make them hard to fly, so most people won't scramble for the planes. If you're really good, I imagine flying is fun. If you're not (like me), you take a land vehicle. Or walk.

While I realize that there is a strong pro-PC contingent here, there are two reason why I play console.

The first is I paid $125 for my Xbox. Could I get a game-capable PC for that much? Especially given my non-negotiable preference for laptops? An entry-level Alienware laptop would require me to stick a zero on the end of that and then dig around in the couch cushions for another $100.

The second is - I play games to get away from the keyboard/mouse/monitor/desk. Staring intently at a screen 6-10 feet away with my hands wrapped securely around a single controller is ergonomically ideal for me.

In summary, the console is cheap and easy, just like me, thus I go with that. And yes, I have considered the possibility that I kind of suck at gaming, but nevertheless the HL2 airboat gave me fits that other games did not. The controls were intuitive, in fact they were just like my motorcycle, but it felt like there was about .0000001 degrees of rotation difference between hard left forward and hard right back on the thumbstick.

Mshcherbatskaya you are cheap and easy? uuuuummmmmm........

You could try Ebay I have found a few decent bids on gaming laptops. But I totally agree with you on the expense factor. You just reminded me that my own gaming laptop is shot right now and I got outbid on a replacement motherboard in the last 30 damn seconds. I REALLY want to play Half Life 2, its just not the same on my desktop...T_T (This is why we need standards for laptops like we have for desktops that way the prices would come way down.)

As far as the worst driving sequence it has to be Mass Effect's Mako segments.

It's true. I admit it. And sort of prone to breaking down, and definitely last-gen, which makes me even more like an Xbox.

I just got a job in the hardware side of the tech industry (I have no idea how I tricked them into hiring me, but whatever I did, it worked) so I'm hoping to land some sweet hardware out of that.

Halo 3. Scorpions lost their touch, and are slow, and you either get piss-weak guns or horribly overpowered ones. Mostly the latter, which took away the fun. Also, the AI was crap. I always wondered why none of the enemies used the Spartan Laser. Would have saved them a whole lot of trouble.

The Mako in Mass Effect, the Tank section in Crysis and any vehicle in Just Cause, especially aircraft (slowest fighter jet ever)

Personally, I found the most annoying vehicle section in the PC version of Red Faction, but that's mostly due to technical constraints. It does predate even the Xbox release of Halo, y'know.

As for consoles, I've played Prey, The Orange Box and Quake 4 on the 360, and out of those Prey needed the most work. Mostly because the 'exit' button on the shuttles was the same as the tractor beam, and the fact that you kept your momentum when you left the shuttle.

That means if you were trying to move into position to use your tractor beam and passed over a landing zone, you might end up falling into an abyss.

Huh, hmm sense you're ... attached to your X-box i'd say avoid getting Midnight Club EVER! the drivings fine but the mid game boss will drive you up the wall with his God like vehicle stats while you always seems to finish out of 1st place.

Also i was in a love/hate relationship with the Swampskimmer in HL2 i almost couldn't believe how long it draged on while being considerably fresh for a FPS type game while being a lil jerky about drifting one way when you wanna go another.

I'm a pc kind of man, and there's no point shelling out hunderds of pounds for a 360. What's pissing me off most though is game companies have started moving away from the PC platofrm, look at Halo3, mass effect, The force unleashed... hell even the first release of Assassins creed. It's kinda getting lame.

I loved the racing bit at the end of the halo games, most were piss easy at the hardest difficulty if you knew how to recover from falls and rolls.

Has anybody drove a CUSTOM vehicle in counterstrike 1.6 (the floating boxes with controls)? now THEY were a pisstake sometimes XD.

Also come to think of it, Half Life 1 the train section lol, that was pretty annoying.
