As i mentioned in the Deus Ex 2 thread: Alex Dentons (male) voice. It sounds so wrong and I just hate it.

Shadow the Hedgehog. For a game series that had mediocre voice acting at best, they actually managed to make every single character sound like they had been smoking heavily since the last game and had their vocal cords run through a woodchipper before being reinserted into their throats

At the risk of inflaming fanboys, David Hayter as the voice of Solid Snake is downright wooden and painful to listen to. I'm sorry, but Hayter is a screenwriter, not a voice actor. (He wrote the first two X-men movies and most of the screenplay for Watchmen...booyah trivia!)

Any game featuring a french speaker: They never have actually asked for a REAL french-speaking with a REAL french-sounding accent. All we get are stereotypes of nationalities.

Anime is notorious for that too: the best example is the cartoon Zero no tsukaima: the world is supposed to speak french, you can see everything "written" has more grammar faults than a 5 year old, and the main character: Louise, pronounces her own name "loui-SEUH!!!".

You'd think anyone making games or cartoons must have a bit of budget to hire any linguist to double-check these things.
Well...Onimusha 3 had Jean Reno, he did pretty good, though he is a native speaker after all.

But the absolute -awful- bit is about a few minutes after his first section in the game...they give Jean Reno's character the most horrendous english dub! I didn't get it! The man can speak perfectly good english! Why dub it? I guess...maybe he only signed on for those few french lines...but it's a shame.

RE 1 is definately the worst for me. Anything involving laughter in FFX is painful to watch too. I have to mention max payne. The main character is fine but I absolutely cannot stand the whiney sound enemies make when they die. A really nasal "AAUUUUUUGGGGHHH :("
On the subject of Max Payne, I think I heard a few enemies shout "My spleen!" before dying. This may be because I had been playing it at around 3 am and was on the verge of falling asleep while playing.
Heh, well I've not played the game all of the way through so you could be right. They do say "my spleen!" in No More Heroes though. Maybe Suda has you tapped :p
That's what it was! Sorry, early in the mornings, all the sounds in games I play kind of blend together

Chaos Wars.
Owww... that caused me physical pain. That's not real, right? That HAS to be someone just dubbing over the real voice audio, right?

sonic and the secret rings. that game sucked by itself, and then they had the characters talk like the characters in a show aimed at children. actually any sonic game with voice acting. and any show aimed at children. its probably cuz kids just dont notice or care. for another non video game example, pretty much any dub of any shonen anime. but the worst voice acting ive ever seen ever comes from the animated version of the webcomic vg cats. the whole video sucked on various flavours of arse but the voices were just horrible. actors who obviously didnt care and random pauses in the conversation. no wonder they havent made any more in three years. and one thing i have noticed that people complain about is assassins creed, and how altair had an american accent. i think that its possibly justified by the animus. when you think about it, its not like altair as himself, more like desmond as altair. and desmond is american, so yeah. its a little wierd that some characters have regionally correct accents and some have british accents, but that always happens.

Final Fantasy 10: its not so much poor voices as sounding artificial with sheeeee-ite timing. I can cleary remember 1 scene in which Yuna is speaking and there is a clear 2 seconds or so before she says "Y'know!" to end the sentence, as if the voice actor had to look back down at the script >,>.
or
The world ends with you - you only really hear the voices in the end of the main story, but during play its mostly grunts and "comic" speech effects with the occasional "Your Zetta slow" thrown in whilst talking to your Math-fetishist enemy. In the epilogue though, I honestly thought Joshuas voice was done by a 12 year old girl on Helium, turns out its done by a boy though 0_o.

**note: I love these games - aside from these flaws

How has Shadow Hearts 1 not been mentioned yet? The game was great, and most of the voice acting was just mediocre, but relatively early in the game, you meet the horror of...

SEA MOTHER.

WORST.

VOICE.

ACTING.

EVER.

Watch at your own risk.

Oh God, Ive completed both of them; but I completely forgot about most of it
especially this bit :L This was definitely the scariest part of any video game I have ever encountered - and that includes playing half life back in the days when i was like 7 :0 >

(too many people quoted my post about Ass. Creed beggars so i'll just post it here.)

All i'm saying is that the beggars are annoying enough with their constant getting in your way and accidentally assassinating them instead of your target. A few more lines would be better seeing how they stalk you like hawks. Other townsfolk's dialog seems to be always fresh because of the free run system you're never there to hear a full conversation. /rant

Altair's voice is one huge downfall on the game's brilliant success. Why would a guy living in the ancient Israel area have an American accent? Every other character is done perfectly (except for beggars). /rant

To conclude, I will rant on about lepers in the game. I know that they're there to annoy you but sometimes they become too annoying. Here's some examples:

Case Study 1: Two lepers decided to bully me by pushing me into each other. By this I mean that leper A pushed me into leper B, then he pushed me back into leper A. This kept on going for 10 minutes as I struggled to free myself. Once I got away a templar attacked me and killed me.

Case Study 2: On the Assassination mission where you are at the docks, after numerous tries of getting to the boat without being discovered (and failing), I found the logical path to go on. However, there are lepers everywhere. I try to run past them but each time I do they push me in the water. My only option is to grab them and throw them in the ocean, which alerts the guards, thus ending a stealthy assassination.

Case Study 3: When i'm about to pull off a perfect stealth assassination on my target, a leper pushes me into him, causing him to take of 4 bars of synch in a single blow. Thanks leper!

And now my rant is ended.
