What are some of the worst ways player characters, enemies, bosses, npcs, etc. kicked the bucket in video games? I think getting blasted with the bfg from Doom, I mean come on! It shoots a giant death ball of green energy that vaporizes beings!! Also getting crushed by a pudgy plumber that bounces on your head kinda sucks too. :p
Eh, getting shot by the BFG wouldn't be so bad, really. As you said: you get instantly vaporized, so you wouldn't really feel any pain at all. Just a bright flash and you're gone.

I'd say getting shot by some of the special ammo in the Mass Effect series, particularly from the first game. Those polonium rounds fill your body with some kind of corrosive liquid that dissolves your body from the inside out...that's GOTTA suck.

Resident Evil 4 had some pretty damn gruesome ways to die. Resi 5/6 had nothing on Resi 4.

Crits.

Nuzlocke challenge, enemy gets a critical hit on your Pokemon RIGHT before something late-game, such as the Pokemon league, when had it not happened, everything would've been fine.

I can't imagine anything that would make me want to aggressively inform the screen otherwise more.

Oh, and in Killing Floor, nothing's more annoying than a triple-siren ambush, nothing anywhere near enough making me rage, but still...pretty unfortunate to get pounced like that. Reminds me of a time it happened to one guy, who narrowly survived, I commented "Close one!", turned out he was admin, replied "no" and started a kick vote, which the other player for some reason agreed to. I asked why (more like "What the actual fuck.") and the reasoning was "You lived". What a nice guy. He'd make a great politician considering the tyrannical use he made of the position of a server admin.

I should add I was spectating, waiting patiently until the round ended so I could spawn in. That really rustled my jimmies.

Drowning does seem like a very common and pretty gruesome way to go. Lara Croft drowning sticks out quite a bit, but I don't think anything can really compare to poor Sonic and his trouble with water

Any game with perma-death. Take FTL for example. All your hard work... Nope, fuck you, you're dead now.

All the deaths that let you panically run and jump and wiggle around in the inevitable: death by lava.
(and specifically, losing all that nice stuff, too)

The recent Tomb Raider was pretty terrible towards Lara. Sometimes even too much for my taste.
The most brutal one is definitely the infamous wooden pole through the head.

Even more brutal when you think that one through - in the death animation, she appears to still have some consciousness and control of her arms for a few seconds after the head impalement. Seems unbelievable, but there is at least one well-known case of someone surviving a similar accident: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage

So, from that we can assume that Lara wasn't actually killed, and likely just lost consciousness. She would wake up a few minutes later, still impaled on the pole and probably unable to remove herself from it, left to die slowly of exposure or thirst.

Getting in the way of the Graybeards as they are practicing in the courtyard. If you aren't careful you will get "Fus Ro Dah"d off of the mountain.

For me, its the big bosses. And yes, I mean those big ones that tend to charge. But no, not the attack of the boss itself. I mean those who have a lot of little minions skittering around, throwing punches at you.

So, after having gotten trampled almost to death a few times, one little minion comes around, out of your field of vision, and does a small attack, doing almost no damage. That kills you. Its what I find worst.

The Regenerator kill in Dead Space.
It's the fact that Isaac's still alive with just a torso, arm, and head that make it kind of sad.

The absolute worst way, is a timer death or being caught by a boss you need to escape from. Like for example, trying to find the switch to stop the water level from rising and you know you are running out of time and you are submerged leaving only a little time left BUT YOU CAN'T FIND IT AND YOU DROWN.

Or trying to run away from that Resident Evil B.O.W. and you don't know where to go and you turn to fire out of panic and he doesn't stop AND HE KIIIIILLS YOU!

Those are the worst.

ON THE LAND, I AM AS A GOD.

IN THE SEA, I AM NOTHING.
And you know the worst place for that? Near the colonel's yacht. Riding a motorcycle to get my next mission, turn the corner, don't slow down in time, hit the fence, fly over the fence into the water. Every single time at the same damn corner. Raaaaage.

Every single death in Dead Space, the deaths in that game are just another incentive not to die.

Also instakills, even if they're not horrific they are rage inducing.

Quick time events?

You die... Because you missed this button....
HA

One of the most annoying ways to die (that I've had) is running around Blighttown in Dark Souls... Get poisoned... And promptly run out of healing items before you can run back to the bonfire....

yaaaayyyyy

Although in terms of if it were real life... I'll go with running out of air filters in Metro 2033/last light...

Seriously, you KNOW how much time you have to either find another filter... or suffocate...

If anything that should increase the rate in which your filters die out...

I'll go with dying from improperly using the Rez vibrator, because of how embarrassing it would be.

Otherswise, pretty much everything in Dead Space. The splitter in particular.

This reminds me of probably the worst way I've ever died in a Multiplayer game.

I was playing Halo 3 on Xbox Live way back when. I had managed to sneak up behind a sniper and prepared to sticky him with a plasma grenade. Well, at the last second, he moved to the side and somehow I still don't know how, the grenade bounced off the wall straight back and STUCK ME.

The other players were in stitches for the rest of the match after that. Shame my Xbox HD committed suicide years ago and I lost the game save.

I will be "this" guy and I will say these death doesn't even get close to the deaths I saw in very hardcore Videogames.......made in Japan.

I already said an example like Demonophobia [please for the love of god don't Google it when you are at work,NSFW]......but they are FFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR worst death in other games than this one.

I must adress very simple some [or actually.....many] Videogames in Japan is for the people having a fetish seeing only little girls get dead in many gruesome ways......

You couldn't believe what my eyes had saw......
