No, you are saying that someone else can't have the opinion that Oblivion is the poorest RPG in existence and that anyone who possibly has that opinion is making "bitchy little trite observations". If someone elses opinion of a video game bothers you so much that you have to resort to calling someone "bitchy", or "petty", or "arrogant" then I humbly suggest that deep down you realize that the petty arrogant ***** has a point, or else you wouldn't be so perturbed by their words.JC175 said:Oblivion is not a perfect game. But using such bitchy little trite observations to justify why it is of all things "one of the poorest RPG's in existence" is extreme arrogance. I'm not saying you have to like the game, that's your perogative and I honestly don't care if you love it or hate it. But petty exaggeration? Another issue.
People generally only get defensive when a vunerability is exposed.
I don't know why so many people knock oblivion. Maybe I don't understand because I only played just a little Morrowind.TraderJimmy said:snip
Yeah, Morrowind for sure.Wombaat said:Hahahahahahaha No. Oblivion is terrible. Morrowind.
Just a random note: I think Fallout uses Gamebryo 2, with Oblivion using 1. That's why I'm expecting great things from TES:V.DMonkey said:I had fun, and spent many hours wasting away on it, so I would have to say yes.
As long as you get the expansion pack with it, with the ever lovable prince of madness.
Its fallout 3 (made by the same guys, and I believe the same engine), but fantasy, bigger, and more control over your stats.
Voice acting is utter shit though. Even Patric Stewert was awful.
So, if that appeals to you, and you don't mind crappy voice acting, give it a go.
Can't speak for everyone but for me but 1: Crashed on install, repeatedly, requireing me to spend several hours uninstalling and reinstalling until it worked. And even then I had to patch it instantly. 2: Fell through the floor 4 times, 3 of which the game was ggod enough to teleport me back to solid groud but the fourth time I just stayed hovering in greyspace. 3. Numerous times the game would simply stop. 4. Bluescreened on me at least 10 times probably more. No real ryme or reason when but it happened alot.Hyper-space said:You are so "monumentally" wrong that it hurts.
1. "Horrendously buggy"? name at least 1 game-breaking bug. I can name a couple of major bugs from TES3: All of your faction ranks get wiped if you join the Temple after finishing the main quest and the reach of spears does not work as people with stump hands can reach you 3 meters away.
Are you joking? You're seriously defending Oblivions AI?2. The A.I in Oblivion is god-like compared to Morrowind, NPC's in TES3 constantly cluster together in the middle of the fucking doorway blocking your path and couple that with messed collision detection which prevents someone who can jump up to 2 meters in the air from jumping over a 20-centimeter high fence. Also, the NPC-escort missions are flawed in that the NPC will not choose his own path but walk in your footsteps (causing them to fall down cliffs or getting stuck in a bush).
But the dialog wasn't voice acted. In Oblivion the lack of voice actors (and their lack of skill) is very obvious especially when an NPC talks o somebody of the same race and gender. Or when people switch accents in the middle of a conversation.3. Want to know something funny? Morrowind used less voice actors and you could not look at them without triggering their generic response.
Well for a start the way the system works mean the best thing you can do is to chose primary skills for your class as skills you never use. Secondly it means if you have any sort of non-combat skill as one that determines your level you have to avoid using it or become unable to actually fight the enemies the game throws at you. Thridly several skill in the game are simply made irrelavent by certain spells or items. Sneak is a meaningless skill to a character who can cast invisibility, Speechcraft is worse than a charm spell and there's an easy to get item that makes the security skill pointless.4. "Leveling system is broken", cool story bro. How about backing up your argument next time?. The leveling system was designed so that there would always be a challenge, every enemy in Oblivion had base stats, meaning that it will always take more to defeat an ogre than a rat.
You mean generic green fields, grey blobs with white on them, generic green fields with wter and generic green fields with trees. Yeah Morrowind was usgly but it was alien. Especially with the Dwemer and Daedric ruins.5. Environments are bland and empty? instead of having a copy-pasted frankenstein landscape they decided on a visually pleasing and seamless environment consisting of savannah-like plains, icy-mountains, swamps and pine-forests.
Vigilant modders does not excuse bad design.6. Psychic Guards? try the Guard Overhaul mod. Also, no NPC in morrowind went to sleep.
AND? It's still a bland and generic story. And you aren't the main character.7. The Main Quest does not get bogged down by that drawn-out shit filler where you have to walk everywhere telling them that you are the "nerevarine".
Ohhh personal tastes in video games makes one "ignorant" now as well as "bitchy", "petty", and "arrogant".JC175 said:cuddly_tomato said:I have never really understood the tribalistic defense of this game (and indeed other games). Is it an attempt to deal with buyers remorse?

Naah. I bet you enjoy ice cream. Or maybe you don't. When someone else says "eewww I can't stand that shit!" or "I love it!" do you call them an ignorant *****? Something else makes you behave like this, and it has nothing to do with enjoying the game.JC175 said:One thing I'd like to preface this by saying is that generally, as much as I tend to disagree with some people, I can always understand their point of view, while not necessarily agreeing with it. Here's a reason why people tribalistically defend the game - maybe, just maybe, because they enjoyed it?
So I am an ignorant, arrogant, naive, petty ***** living in a "sheltered world" now for not liking Oblivion? Are you serious?! "Sheltered world"? It's a damn video game for the love of God!JC175 said:If your opinion is truly that Oblivion ranks with the most horrible games ever made, then I think you live in a very sheltered naive little world.
Ohhh we have an arbitrary "truth" here. Tested the game in a lab against others did you? Subjective opinions on video games aren't allowed if they are on games you like?JC175 said:Yes, I am saying that one cannot have the point of view that Oblivion is one of the poorest games in existence, because that is simply not true.
You are preaching though, and throwing a tantrum as well. Over a video game.JC175 said:Disliking a game does not make it so, no matter how much you try to justify it. At its worst, Oblivion is still an above-average video game. I am not preaching that it is the best game in the history of mankind, because that is not the case, and so should you not preach the opposite. Good day to you sir.
