Different levels-ranging from Deserts to Cities
Different weapons-kitchen utensils to Cow Launchers
Different Enemies-kittens to Collosi
No plot, online play to do this with buddies

Sounds like my kind of game.

This idea was awesome enough to make me finally get around to registering. It sounds great, but I was thinking it would be even better if it included some tower-defense-esque elements, such as the enemies gradually becoming stronger, your arsenal gradually becoming larger and more awesome, etc. Actually, I think I'd really like it if it was some sort of era-progressing game; you start with stone-age weapons and enemies, and it gradually crawls forward in time, giving you better and better weapons to combat the improving enemies. It's not a story, but it would still keep things interesting through change. Maybe, for example, you start in a cave with a sharp rock, you fight your way to the mouth of the cave, you find a knife or a slingshot, the enemies change slightly, repeat ad infinitum. The enemies would always funnel you towards the next weapon. The collection of said weapon might unlock the option to start a new game from that point, or with that weapon at an earlier point, or with an earlier weapon at that point. Multiplayer would just be the ability to jump seamlessly in and out of a friend's game and fight together or compete to kill the most enemies.

Sorry if that was a little incoherent...

Sounds interesting. For infinite weapons check out the vid of Borderlands, they have a system that spawns loads of variations of weapons, I think 100,000 or more altogether. EDIT: Actually 500,000 variations.

There was one revolver, sniper-rifle that shot electric bullets. It was awesome! I'll try to find the vid, watch this space.

Top video, watch from 1:30. Video is pretty dark but the game looks great IMO.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, but I felt it needed a little more explanation. Looks like you understand it well enough; I was worried the big block of text was a bit much.

Boxhead anyone?

That game is just you, zombies, your guns, and blocks/barrels.

Simple as that, addictive as crack.

If the enemies were good enough, weapons varied enough, I'd enjoy it.

Try playing the zombie mod for CoD:WaW. It's hella fun, especially if you only buy weapons from the random weapon box.

:)
Not a mod.

Your game exists in many forms:

Online competitive shooters are just that

MMO's really just amount to going around and killing infinite respawns

Dynasty Warriors and other mashers like 99 Nights.

Because it's such a simple mod, almost every mod community has a version of that concept for whatever engine they use...

It's fun enough, but gets boring pretty quickly, making it interesting for ongoing play is a challenge. I can think of at least one soon to be released title that is built for that and is hella-fun, you don't get to customize your weapons though.

Not really. There needs to be some motivation to kill these constantly spawning enemies. Otherwise you will lose interest after 30 minutes. A game with constantly spawning enimies does not make 10 hours of fun gaming.

Earlier today I was just lounging around, bored out of my skull, when I thought of an idea for a game. All it would be is you and endlessly respawning enemies. No story, no objectives, no nothing....just killing stuff. Without having to spend time on the story and what not, you could spend time making a butt-ton of weapons and an even bigger butt-ton of enemies.

So...would you enjoy a game like that?
Isn't this just Multiplayer Online with infinite kills/deaths (options) and a huge weapon set (which is pointless - weapon sets have to be varied and balanced. The more weapons the harder to balance. Everyone uses a few guns only.)

Everyone's seems to be going crazy for this game when really it's just Unreal tournament/Quake Arena online.

Erm?

Am I missing something?

Although, this game will probably be Massive Action Game. So get that, if it's good.

Good idea, it's fun to just sometimes kill people without having to worry about storylines or other stuff. If it's multiplayer then I'll definitely buy it :D

it would be good as long as it's not all in one room and you can move around. having them spawn from different places would be good, e.g from the ceiling, rather than just appearing. i don't mean to quote Yahtzee but any game that can make an enemies limbs fly off in different directions is already a work of art. the Painkiller review comes to mind, particularly shurikens and lightning, it could only be more awesome if it had tits and was on fire. but yes, a game of unlimited enemies and oober guns is a winner in my book
