Tbh, thinking about it, your making it seem very tempting to go and break one of my pipes at home, just to get Mario to come round so I can make him pop in the pipe and immediately block it, forcing him to slowly suffocate to death and allow Nintendo to finally realise he is DEAD and FORGOTTEN and start paying more attention to their other games. They have good ideas, so they need to stop regurgtating old ones just for the sake of a few extra pennies.
Dude, if I could play a new F-Zero game, I'd sack Mario in a minute!
Thanks for getting my point :) Nintendo have shown in the past they are capable of coming up with some pretty good sh*t and sequels CAN be good in some cases, but Mario needs to be taken to one side and shot in the back of the head.

Something like "taking him behind the shed, tearfully putting both barrels thru his mustachioed face; stuff him, mount him, repurpose him as a monkey wrench?" They just wont do it: it's Nintendo's legacy series, they'll have a fucking orgy or something when it hits 25 years in 2011. I don't know what Sonic will do when he turns 25... probably the same thing I will... hang myself on a door knob while having a wank? :D

They probably wouldnt, and Zelda and metroid would fill the gap. The gaming world would be drastically different though

Tbh, what other famous titles has Sega done? NONE. They would not exist any more. And without Mario, maybe Nintendo would put a bit more effort into the Pokemon games, maybe, I dunno... creating a good generation for once?
OK, with sega you've got a point. They probably wouldn't last on either side of the pond (the BIG one). But if you take Mario out of the picture, Nintendo still has Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, EarthBound (while we're talking about Japan), and even F-Zero as strong series which might have occurred regardless.

Um.... Phantasy Star series? Thats an entirely seperate thing that sega (specifically SONIC TEAM) had other than sonic.

Anyway, I pay respect to mario, who has managed to keep about a 95% awesome rate of the games bearing his likeness. Please, put down the pitchforks till mario games start sucking.

I think the BIGGER question would be, "What would the videogame world be like without Shigeru Miyamoto?"

Just some observations of mine...

Well, that depends.
for example, if Super Mario Brothers had never been released, that would mean gaming probably never took off. but, avoiding that timefuck, if Galaxy had been the first mario game, everyone would still love it, it's a good game, it doesn't need mario to make it a good game. and, as creepy as it sounds, some people LIKE the new sonic games. there are some people, who sit and write fan fiction dipicting shadow penetrating cream. there are thousands of these people, and they are keeping sega from making sonic 4. whats the point? they are still making money. the point is, a game is a game, regardless of what has come before it.

It would be a world envolving less verging on racist Italian caricatures and less games that kid you that you are getting fit while they make you wiggle around plastic sticks.

And you can't compare Phantasy Star to Sonic, they are no where near on the smae level.

I was saying that Sega has had other things besides sonic, friend, Please dont misread my statements.

And dont forget Miyamoto had WAY more than just Mario. Zelda, Donkey Kong, F-Zero, Starfox, and Pikmin, just to name some. He's been called the father of video games before. Really, contemplate my post a bit more before you quote me.

Well of course it has other things, but it doesn't stop it trying to create new, more interesting games. Sonic is a legend, but it should stop recycling old ideas. Leave Sonic alone now, and people will look upon it in fondness in the years to come. At this rate, Sonic will be getting released on the PS8.
