I'm with you jamanticus. Sure, I'm currently playing both Eve and WoW and have plans to return to City of Heroes, but that's just the addiction talking. I don't really enjoy all that time wasted, and I certainly don't enjoy 90% of the players that I have to endure. The world would be a better place with less games that you have to play for playing with the result that the only thing the developers aim for is keep as many people as possible playing as long as possible and they don't even try to dress it up like they want to make a good game.

Indie games is the future I think, they already get ten times more respect than indie movies after having been around 1/10 times a long. Only those without any commercial interest or pressure can aspire to create art.

Surely the whole idea of "The World would be better without" just screams crypto fascism and Godwin's from the start?
I think of it as agility exercises for the mind. How is it fascistic in any way to imagine the world differently?

Naw, Xhumed,

They can't murder you. There would be no one to keep me on the narrow path.

And what is this all of a sudden argument about 100% enforced honesty being the be all and end all of human conflict? That would take all the masks off and not allow ANYONE to be friends- because people would be able to see that which we accept but DO NOT LIKE ABOUT THEM. That argument is totally bogus.

Also, just because someone is AFRAID of political power does not make them the best person to be placed in charge of governmental direction. People who are afraid of power might not ABUSE said power, but they also are hesitant to USE the power when circumstances call for decisive action.

And British idioms, those should go too. (not that I have a problem with idioms in principle, it's just that Britain has so many and alot of them make no sense even after you know what they mean)
what are idioms?
People like Eldritch Warlord. Haha. What's wrong with our idioms? Is it just that you don't understand them?

I guess not everyone has friends that are completely honest. Well, you'd soon find out what a wonderful thing it is. :)

And of course people who don't want power make better leaders than those who do, maybe not perfect, but better, especially if they're the kind of person who'd run in an election.

Yeah. As I like to say, the accelerating development of society has resulted in giving us abilities we have neither the moral, emotional nor psychological capacity to deal with; and without the drive of ambitions things would most likely happen at a more reasonable pace, allowing humanity to keep up with technology.

Because you're trying to envision a world that already exists and removing only the images rather than the secondary effects.

Let's take the idea of a world without potatoes, for example. So no crisps or chips.

But, without Potatoes, there would have been less sailing, more dysentry during war and therefore less land wars, Ireland would be totally different, probably destroyed and conquered...which means no railways or ships...it all has a knock on effect.

What's more likely to happen with suggesting X is that people's prejudices against X will surface. Which is crypto-fascism.

If you're looking for an intellectual exercise, fix X to begin with (like say Religion) and get people to rebuild the world from the beginning of time without X.

Knock out Religion and you don't have Rome, which grew rich on Religion...so you don't have Pythagorus, Archimedes, Hero etc. so where did mathematics, philosophy or science come from?

I thought this thread was gonna be about Mega Man X. ;~;

Anyway, the world would be better off without sinus agitation. The pharmaceutical businesses would face oblivion, but it'd be worth it to be able to breath clearly in April.

im pretty sure the world would get many times better if we just remove all humans from it. although some secondary animal species would most likely suffer, (ie:pidgeons) it would be a small price to make the world more livable.

People who don't know what idioms are.

Or use wikipedia as an extension of their own brains.

Anyone who brings in that WikiBrain cartoon from xkcd is a dead poster.

So I'm being crypto-fascistic because I'm not thinking through the consequences of the changes that I'm imagining as thoroughly as yourself? Or is it because I'm imagining a change happening now rather than having been that way forever? Well, I'm going to sleep now, and I think I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over that.

Jenny has a point, it was what if we all woke up one day and... not if it was always like this...

but i think it would make existence into one big awkward moment for a looong time....

i'd be interesting to read something based on such an idea though...

of course the world would be a better place without X, who uses the letter X anyways.
