Would you be in favor of an HD remake and console port of Half-Life?

Like what they are doing for Halo and Crysis.

I remember hearing about a Source remake of Half-Life a couple years ago but haven't heard or seen anything of it for a long while. It looked pretty cool at the time though.

I'm pretty sure they finished that source remake; I think you can get it as a mod.

OT: It seems like a good idea. I didn't play the original Half-life until this year's steam sale, and I think it has held up very well. The graphics are horrendous by today's standards, though, and a rerelease would be welcome.

Isn't Half-Lifes graphics way too bad to be remade in HD like that? Figure you'd have to re-create the entire game.

Might've been the Black Mesa mod you heard/saw.

No updates for almost two years(at least on the Twitter link on the first page). :/

To get right to the point...yes. Yes I would.

However, allow me to elaborate a bit. As amazing as the game was back in the day, things have changed since. It's still a fantastic title, but it's definitely dated after more than a decade.

As a result, I'd rather see Valve go back and rebuild the game from the ground up using the design philosophies they adhere to now. The ones that gave birth to Portal 2, HL2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead.

I can honestly say that would make for one hell of a fantastic experience. It'll never happen, of course, but a man can dream. A man can dream....

They released a GOTY package a while back that included an "HD Update" where you could install it and it upgraded the graphics and looks of all the characters and weapons. Those were actually equivalent to Halo 1 graphics and it was released in maybe 04 or 05. So they can update the graphics pretty well, though I wouldn't be against simply building the game from scratch to bring it up to par with 2011 standards. It is, after all, almost 15 years old.

And yes! It was Black Mesa! It looked hella cool. I wonder why it was canceled.

Well, there already was Half Life: Source and the PS2 port of Half Life, so technically those things already exist...

Anyway, unlike other FPS's from around the same time, like, say, Deus Ex and Halo, Half Life has not aged well, especially in the light of Half Life 2. If they did remake it, they would have to make drastic changes to the game for it to actually be tolerable to play (for example, remove/totally change the first person platforming that the game relies so heavily on). If they did that, I would be all for it. If not, I would oppose the idea.

I actually enjoy the original far more than the sequel, exactly because of said platforming.

I've never been able to wrap my head around why there's such a hate for first-person platforming today.

The gaming scene needs more Mirrors Edge.

Ooh! It's the GOTY edition I got! Don't see any mention of any HD update though.

Believe Black Mesa got into trouble with Valve, but I might be mixing it up with the Morrowind mod. Would be nice is Valve got a hold of the rights for Black Mesa, or hired the modder, so we could get a release. Much less work for Valve and we won't have to wait a decade for it!

This probably counts as an HD remake. It just doesn't have the multiplayer,[footnote]I'm talking about Half-Life 2: Deathmatch[/footnote] much like the Splinter Cell Collection.[footnote]Oh, you meant the first Half-Life[/footnote]

It came in a box with all the expansion packs. It was like Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Team Fortress, and Counter Strike I think. The HD install option was on the Blue Shift disk. So was OpFor. Idk why they wasted a whole CD to include OpFor when it was on Blue Shift anyway.
