Would you buy an island, and form your own country?

I want to buy an uncharted island, and form my own country with my own rule. I'll name it Culixia, or maybe invite TGWTG and name it Kickassia.

Why? because if you've seen all the stupid stuff that countries are doing, a ban on claiming water prevents dehydration in Belgium, etc. and seen my reaction, you can guess i want to get away from any government that believes itself to be legitimate and pull this shit.

Yup. It'd probably be a dictatorship run by me, but I'd have a small council to advise me. As we got bigger, I'd expand to democracy for more representation, since it'd be hard for too many people to talk to me directly at that point, but I'm sure whatever I set up would get shot to shit when I died.

A dictatorship, the economy would be based on legal drugs. The drugs would produced cleanly be sold in different ways. The harder drugs like heroin would need some form of drug liscence whereas others would just be sold.

The obvious things apply. Piracy and gay marriage would be legal, Healthcare would be Semi-subsidised via and insurance system based on income.

We would maintain a military, why? you ask. To hold off the waves of drug dealers who would want me out of the picture.

Edit: science would be subsidized instead of tobacco and rich people.

If I had enough money to do that, I'd pay someone else to take care of it. Leadership also comes with blame. I'd rather just be an investor.

No. I wouldn't want that kind of responsibility. I mean I'd love to have an island, but I'd want it to be a private island. I don't want to have to mess with other people and their problems.

I would buy an island but I wouldn't try and form my own country. The logistics of starting and running a country are too much of a hassle. If I own an island I'm going to spend all day relaxing and enjoying the beach not working on the tedious gears of government.

No! Do you know just how hard it would be to maintain a country?
Ok sure let say you're were good in management games like Simcity or stuff like that but this is real life we're talking about (people demanding lower taxes or making complains).
Chances are I would end up making a 3rd world country despite how hard I try to maintain the economy.

If the opportunity to own an island presented itself I'd take it but I'd probably use it as a private resort to go to with friends to do things my government may not totally approve of.

It wouldn't be a full time thing though, I'd miss people too much.

Yes, it would be a dictatorship masquerading as a democracy.
A common sense test will be required to enter the country and you will be required to retake it every time you return to the country.
Ideally it'd be like the good ol' days, where you could hit someone back if they hit, if you're robbed you can do whatever you like with the robber and you can't sue everyone who hurts your goddamned feelings.
Chances are 50/50 that it'll either be a utopia or go to shit in a week.

I would have my own island, but it wouldn't be it's own country unless someone actually found me and asked me to pay taxes. It would be more like Master Roshi's place from Dragon Ball, and would just have a house with all the fun stuff like electricity, running water, and phone service. Oh, and a boat, since I don't have a sea turtle or a flying cloud to ride on.
