Would you/do you play a war game where your country is 'the bad guys'?

I was reading about MW2's plot recently and realised that it is so anti-Russia that it isn't funny. Do any Russians find it somewhat hard to shoot your own men in the face?
Would any of you not play a game where you opposed your own country?

I guess I could, if my country was being led one person with a villainous agenda, rather than portraying the entire country and its people as evil. I guess you'd have to play a game than makes your country look evil at some point. If Russia and Germany didn't take that approach, they'd never play any game ever. Can't wait to play America: Rise of the Fast-Food Zombies!

I would really like to play a game for the opposition. At least it would mix things up in what is becoming a stale genre.

I don't think you'd find many games portraying a fictitious war where an entire country is shown as being evil-usually it would just be one faction.

The closest that I've done is in the Total War games. Damn you England for not joining the Holy Roman Empire!!!

You know, I think I could.

Firstly, all the soldiers I've killed in-game - Russian, German, Chinese, Korean, American - all start to blend together after a while. They're just grunts in uniform.

Secondly, I come from Australia. The idea of an Australia so large and powerful that it's the major bad guy in a war is kind of awesome.

It goes without saying it'd have to be a good game, like Modern Warfare. I wouldn't play something purely so that I'd get to shoot my countrymen.

Frankly, I think it's past due someone made a game like that. As in, a major title.

Well, the Americans were kind of the bad guys, actually. The Russians were responding to an attack...

Anyway, yes. A character in a game is not a moral agent, and unless they plead with me I would have no qualms killing them.

I wouldn't mind it at all, as long as the game is good and I'm not playing as an American.

I love games where you can fight as the opposing country. To bad there's so few. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like a game like that. Its not like its /real/.

Yes, Canada would make a sick location to fight in. As stated before, as long as it's not just the entire country's evil (though maybe in a Canadian Bacon kind of way.)

Also, eh's would need to be more common than I's and enemy soldiers would have to loudly talk about last night's hockey game using lots of aboot's.

Yea, so long as it's done well and is a good game. Though I don't see many game companies making England out to be the 'bad guys' much...we'd rather be drinking tea!

Meh relax mate, it's just a game, Russia's been used as the American arch-nemesis for too long now to let something like that bother you... I do understand what you mean though, I /facepalm seeing Serbs made into war-tormented and/or war-hungry animals (hi GTA4) but at the end of the day it's just a game.

Would I play a game where I opposed my country... probably yes, assuming it's good. I would however be a little ticked off, but that's due to the situation of Serbia being a small country no one ever talks about (as opposed to one of the greatest powers on Earth), so seeing it make a debut as a "slaughter these assholes" in a decent game would be a little irritating.

If however, there were tons of games who also portrayed us as heroes/good guys too I'd take the bad with the good as it's all just using "reality" for a plot in different ways, someone's gotta be the bad guy (and don't we love killing the Yanks in games when we get a chance, eh mate? ;P )
