Well my wife took my last name we didn't even discuss it really after a few days of being engaged she said she was looking foreward to taking my name. She has a VERY french maiden name and NO ONE every pronounces it right, especially difficult for a teacher who's students are all hispanic children. My last name is really easy to say and only has two syllables. She has two older brothers though so maybe that's why she wasn't concerned about the name being 'lost'..

I never would and maybe I'm an asshole but I expected anyone I married to take my name. I've worked in government long enough to know that hyphenated names and families with more than one last name confuse the hell out the gov't when you're trying to get documents. Not to mention I know for a fact that my surname is dying out because Scandinavia kind of suppressed Sami culture for a long time. I've never met or heard of anyone with my surname that I'm not related to.

Well, I'd give up my first or middle or second name just because names are merely a designation we apply to ourselves. Names don't really mean anything, when you think about it.

I wouldn't mind giving up my last name...
I mean, as a traditionalist I wouldn't be the one considering it either...

Depending on her last name I would bring up the subject, but, would never pressure her into changing her name...
I mean, I would give mine up if the situation called for it, but... Otherwise, traditionalist values are what I live by really...

yes, thinking that there is actually a woman who can stand me really is a vision in itself...

Well.... me and my fiancée still haven't decided what to do with our names, as neither particularly wants to give up our name, but if we join them together, we would end up with a triple-barrel name, so when we eventually have kids, what would their last name be?

I honestly doubt I'd give a damn.

If this hypothetical wife is in any way similar to me, then it would probably be decided by coin toss.

Depends on the last name of the girl I'm going to marry with.
I don't really care about my name, so it wouldn't be a problem for me unless it's a really weird (or ugly) last name ;x

But it could also be as my parents did it.
My father kept his own last name (And so did me and my sisters), but my mother used her own last name first followed by my father's name.

Oh god, yes. My surname is so fucking boring, it makes me weep. I sometimes joke that the only reason I'll get married is to get a different surname.

Hilariously my mother wanted a better surname (hers was "Hall"), mostly being more than one syllable, and then she ended up marrying my dad. Who has a single plural last name. GOOD JOB MOM.

I wouldn't mind. My last name really doesn't mean much to me. It might mean something to me if I actually took the time to learn some family history, but I frankly just can't be bothered.

I don't like my last name, and i don't like my girlfriends.

I wanted to create a new one.

But that idea didn't go down so well with her. haha

ah well. We will deal with it when we come to it.

:)

My last name is quite uncommon in the United States.
So I'd feel somewhat bad of letting it go to waste.

But I'd concede it if it meant being together with someone whom I would love for the rest of my life.

And if that doesn't work...well, back the name goes. -_-

My surname is Pink. A lot of girls seem to dig that. Me? Not too fussed, everyone knows me by my uncommon first name anyway. As long as it's not being changed to something like Dumweiner or Buttkiss.

Depends on what name I was giving it up for. In my family blood is more important than the family name so I would have no problem changing it as long as it wasn't to something annoying. Like those really long impossible to spell or pronounce ones.

I'll probably end up hyphenating it. I really like his last name, but I'm rather attached to mine as well.
