Would you go back in time to fight in WWII, if you knew you couldn't die?

Hey there soldier, you've just enlisted in the Third Army "What if" battalion.

...Sorry

Hypothetically speaking, you meet some wizzard/gene/sexslave/communist/mage, and he gives you the opportunity of a life time. He allows you to teleport back to 1939, and be a soldier in any army participating in the War that you wish.

Doesn't sound so good? Well he also promises that you cannot be killed, or deformed in any way. You can experience pain/discomfort/sexual excitement, but come out of the war the same way you go in. Fully limbed and alive, and as soon as the war ends you come back to your time without any disruption in time.

The only rule is that you have to be in the conflict. You must fight on the front.

Do you take him up on the offer?

I wouldn't. I wouldn't want to desensitize myself that much and there's no way I could return to normal life after that.

Hope so, but if I couldn't be killed and this was and option, i'd hunt down a few individuals whose deaths could end the war and not millions.

That's actually a really good question. One question though: does the immunity from permanent harm extend to psychological issues? It would not be fun to go through that and come out with PTSD or something.

If psychological trauma was not a concern, I would probably say yes because WWII is one of the most pivotal parts of recent history, and I'd like to be there to see it go down. It wouldn't be fun, but it would be enlightening.

I would. Experience it with my fellow man who fought so bravely for our generation. Would like to fight on all sides too.

No, i would want to avoid the mental trauma that entails watching your friends getting blown to bits.

You run the risk of turning them into martyrs that way. Better off bringing enough intel to end the war in months rather than years.

It all depends on one question.
Can this magical wizard make me Captain America?
Oh and can I punch Hitler?

I totally would, being a fighter pilot during the Battle of Brittan would be a dream come true, then flying in the Pacific against the Japanese would be a just amazing.

Without a single second of hesitation, my answer would be a resounding yes. I've always been fascinated with WWII - the profound technological, social, and political changes it caused have impacted the world to this very day. To actually experience the war first hand would be an opportunity I simply couldn't pass up.

Not if I had to be on the front line as a soldier. As a medic or maybe someone with power who can avoid a disaster that happened, but not as a soldier. I suppose you could say, "but you'd be saving lives" but I don't value the life of an Allied soldier over that of a German. The German soldiers were no more evil then the soldiers of the Allied forces.
Actually, if I could be a soldier fighting back the Japanese in western China or on the Kokoda trail I'd do that, the Japanese soldiers were evil, and hopefully I'd be able to save some civilians or P.O.W. who were killed at their hands.

Not a valid thing really, knowing my luck because I wouldn't die doesn't mean I wouldn't lose both my legs or be paralysed from the neck down.

If psychological trauma is included in the immunity basket, then yes. I'd like to help out countries that suffered the most during the war.
