Would you go to the police in this situation?

Nope. A slap in the face is nothing, and the police have better things to be doing than wasting their time with such trivial offences. Going to the police over a slapped face is like going to A&E over a stubbed toe.

I have fairly decent reflexes from sparing and a slap is usually quite telegraphed, I'd probably block or dodge it and just walk off like nothing happened.

Kinda depends. I wouldn't hold my breath on them being caught or even less prosecuted but informing the police might help anyway if it's not an isolated incident.
(Or if I have reason to believe it has been politically motivated.)

Its not like he's actually doing any harm.
Even if there's no permanent physical damage, he is still doing harm. He is intimidating people and making them feel unsafe. And behaviour like that has the tendency to escalate. Maybe next time he doesn't hold back, or the person he slaps moves unexpectedly, or something else happens and it's much worse...

If you're a woman and a man slaps you in the face then the police will be all over that guy in no time.
Where I live, there was recently a huge report on our police force and one of the findings was that women who were the victims of physical or sexual assault or abuse were frequently not taken seriously or shrugged off.

This is not to diminish the problems that a man would face but I think people have a tendency to play up this idea that the police fawn at the feet of women and are at women's beck and call regardless of the situation.

OP: No, I really doubt that I would.

I'd probably just stand there stunned for a bit but then I'd probably just go about my day.

I would probably discuss it angrily over drinks with friends but not much more.

The police in my town don't do shit, and finding a random person who *might* have slapped someone is very improbable. So no, I'd prolly just shout after him "The fuck was that for you cheeky c***?!"

I wouldn't because I have been through a similar process over run-by theft and the only result was me trying to convince the police of something and giving statements for several hours, upon which one of the officers in charge made it blatantly clear this was for my reassurance only as they can't actually do anything without hard evidence.

So no, but the next time in that area I would carry a loaded taser.

Imagine you're walking down the street when someone comes up to you and slaps you in the face. As you stand there stunned the person walks away. The slap results in a stinging sensation that passes after a few minutes.

I know a lot of people will want to say that they would totally just beat that person up, or retaliate, or whatever. But for the purposes of this hypothetical, assume you can't fight back, or don't get a chance to fight back. Would you go file a police report, or would you just fume a little and try to forget about it?
I've actually had this situation happen to me before.

I was 16, in the drive-thru line one morning on my way to the comic shop I worked at. I looked up and saw the person in the passenger seat of the car in front of me, facing me, flipping me off. I was puzzled as to why, I didn't know these guys, they were just some football rednecks, and for some reason I couldn't fathom (though I have a theory), he was flipping me off. I ignored it for a while, but he persisted. Finally I flipped him back. He got out of the car, walked over and punched me in the face through my open window, then walked back to his car and they drove off with their food. He hit me hard enough that it made my sinus cavities on that side bleed, and I spent the next several hours, blowing my nose to clear out a thick and bloody mucus that was orange (red blood + yellow mucus, yay color science). I was pissed for the next few days about it, but I didn't call the cops, I didn't think to get any information on the guy or the car, I was just so stunned at the oddity of the entire situation.

After I thought about it, I think what might have triggered him was me picking at my eye. I wear glasses, and when I rub the inside of my eye under my lens, I use my middle finger. I do this unconciously, so I don't know if it actually happened or not, but if I had picked at some eye funk, and then inspected the finger to flick it off, it's possible that if they looked back at that moment, it would've appeared as if I were flipping them off. However I have no idea if I even did that at that time.

This is the only logical explanation I have, other than "The guy was drunk and pissed, and just a random asshole who felt like punching a stranger"

So to answer your question, no I wouldn't call the cops.

No I wouldn't call the police.
I'd pull out my gun and shoot him in the leg as he was running away.
Then I'd drag him up to a cabin in the mountains, chain him to a wall and put his head in a 'clockwork orange' style device to make certain he couldn't look away or close his eyes.
Then I would hunt down every member of his family, kidnap them and torture them slowly to death in front of him, before I burn his house down and shave the words 'kick me' in to his dog and if he didn't have a dog I would buy him a dog just to shave the words 'kick me' in to it!
But anything beyond that would just be extremism.
Oh, like you've never done that!
Just in case anyone doesn't get it.... this is a joke.. for humor purposes...

i'd just be like "wtf dude?!"...nor really into fighting or sth so you won't get to read my awesome "this is what i'd do if..." story sorry

and no i wouldn't even talk about it because it seems to unreal to be believable.
but in thought i'd go over many times what i'd do if i'd see the person again. that's how i roll.

I'd either shrug or chase them and beat the crap out of them.

I've done both, admittedly the beating was from behind but like it matters. All's fair...

I'd only call the police if this isn't the first incident. London had the whole Happy Slapping phase and when I was on the raw end of it I hadn't known it was a "thing". So maybe, i'd get the law involved.

It is my civil duty as a taxpaying citizen of Kiltland to accost and severely diminish the life expectancy of report a serial non sequitur backhander in my area. Think of the children, for God's sake!

But no, I wouldn't go further than that.

I'd report it in terms of making the police aware of the situation - if it was a completely random attack by a stranger they will likely do so again. I wouldn't expect the police to pursue it in this specific case, but maybe to be aware of it.
I'd be the same - report it not to make sure whoever did it paid for it in full or anything, but as a word of caution that it is happening so it doesn't continue to happen.

No. Not strictly because the action doesn't deserve some sort of legal response, which is debatable, but mostly just because I don't feel filing a report would accomplish anything. Maybe if I knew exactly who it was, but otherwise it would feel like I'm just making the experience worse for myself by wasting my time.

I wouldn't, but I don't have any rationale beyond thinking that I don't want to be making a big deal out of nothing.

Yes. Not because I'd expect them to be arrested or for anything to be done about it but so that if they kept turning up or something more serious happened there'd be a description of them and an event clearly tying them to me. IMO, the time to report stalking and harassment and that sort of thing, so that you can start building the evidence to make a case, is at the first occurrence. Not to wait for it to get so serious you have to say something and then for that to be considered as the first 'real' occurrence that they're aware of.

Chances are it's just a drunk, or someone who thought I was someone else... but I'd still report it.

I'm not the fighting type. Heck, I've been in a similar situation before actually. A guy I barely knew was talking about something about fighting, then as an example he kicked me, saying I wouldn't fight back. Indeed I didn't, I was just like 'wtf dude?' Then he kicked me again, so I kicked him back. So I guess for me it's once: 'wtf dude?', twice: 'Eye for an eye *****!' :p
