Let me quote Forrest Gump here for a second:

"Bubba was my best good friend, and even I know that ain't somethin you can find just around the corner."

No, I wouldn't. Best friends aren't something you come by very often. I would never give one up. Sorry if that makes me sound selfish, but that is how I look at it.

If it was a good friend I would rather sacraficed myself if I could and if it were just someone who I know from school or someone like that then... sorry :)
If it was a good friend and I couldnt sacrafice myself then 10 poor bastards is going down.
I'll tell you what instead of sacrificing yourself how about killing the person telling you to do it?
I know I would.
Who wouldnt if he could?

I like to think of myself as a logically moral person, and would like to think that I would do this.

However, I know for an absolute fact that I would not.

This is a very moral question because if you choose to keep your friend alive then your hurting the lives of more then 10 people and that could be 100 of people.
While you kill your friend then you label your self as a murderer and get exiled from your family and friends but save these 10 people which even don't know that you saved them!
So it's quite amazing isn't it? I would save my friend but I would also be plagued with the lives of hundreds of people damaged by my own actions.
The problem is the "you don't know the 10 people AND you would have to actively kill your FRIEND to save them" isn't much of a choice. I would choose to save my friend any day.

If a thousand random people died, then it becomes a problem. But I am still selfish and incapable of pulling the trigger. And that is still a lot of people.

If it was "Shoot 10 people you don't know and your friend lives" it would be a serious moral dilemma. Because you are actively murdering the people, it adds a serious weight to choosing to save the one you know.

Just my thoughts, but if you become my friend, you are helping yourself survive.

No, 100x no.

10 random strangers are insignificant compared to the life of a friend. Hell, 10 strangers are pretty much insignificant in every single way, that same amount of people probably die of tea cosy related accidents annually.

Hmm... this is hard.

If I let my friend live, the 10 people could die, and their death would affect their family and friends, so you could affect 100 of people, and I don't think I can live with that on my conscious.

But on the other hand, if I kill my best friend, his family and friends will grief and blame me. I also wouldn't be able to make new friends because this question will always pop up in my mind. " If I get too close, what if it happens again?

So its a lose-lose situation. Damn it, whats with these moral questions all of a sudden?

Umm, no? I would feel worse about killing my friend than letting 10 people I had no connection to die.

No. I'm as selfish as any human; I wouldn't want to lose one of my friends, even if it meant the death of a thousand strangers.

Yeah, friends don't mean much to me and I believe in the kill one save a thousand(or in this case 10) mentality. Opportunity cost are heavy but I'd feel a lot worse about letting 10 people with their own families and their own friends die in place of my one, it seems kind of selfish.

Kill them all. Then again, my friends are little in number so perhaps I shouldn't kill my best friend.
