Pretty much this. Medieval fantasy RPGs just need to stop (not completely obviously) as it seems like every freaking RPG is always set in medieval fantasy with the same races (elves, dwarfs, etc.) and classes we've all played a million times before. I want new worlds, races, and classes, not the same shit that has been done to death. The medieval fantasy RPG is as bad as the freaking modern military shooters that constantly release. The Telltale game should be good as the show is all about scheming and whatnot.Zhukov said:How would a "proper Game of Thrones game" differ from any other medieval fantasy game?
I mean, I've nothing against the idea. I'm interested to see what comes of that Telltale thing that's been mentioned (although my interest has everything to with Telltale's involvment and almost nothing to do with the GoT name). But I don't really the setting has in particular to offer gaming.
An average fantasy game is about an adventurer (possibly with a plucky band of companions) saving the world from peril. An average Game of Thrones game should be about secret plots to steal kingdoms, ancient dynasties fighting covert warfare against each other through marriage and assassination, and never-ending layers of treachery and backstabbing. Hence why the Crusader Kings 2 mod works so well.Zhukov said:How would a "proper Game of Thrones game" differ from any other medieval fantasy game?
That's actually a great idea.Colonel Mustard said:Those are all good points that would make a GoT set in the current timeline problematic, but I could see those being circumvented quite neatly by perhaps setting the game a few hundred years before the events in ASOIAF, when dragons were still kicking about and magic was more prevalent (I think this was the case at least, it's been a while since I read the books and my memory's rather rusty). That way you can have an original storyline where your character is actually key to big events instead of it feeling forced, have monsters to fight and possibly even magic.
Another great idea. Actually, I'm not even bothered about GoT anymore, just want dragons in Total War...mrgerry123 said:Do you know what I would love. A game of thrones total war style game. Everything is in place for it. Marriages, Diplomacy, Backstabbing and of course all those armies running round. Pick a faction and try to take control over westeros and essos in anyway you see fit. Also have robert's rebellion as dlc if you want

There are no elves, orcs, dwarves, or any other such fantasy race in Game of Thrones. The man constantly referred to as a "dwarf" is a human with dwarfism, not a tolkein-esque creature.Phoenixmgs said:Pretty much this. That depends....is she your hot twin?FrozenLaughs said:Hmmmm that depends.... Would I have to f*** my sister at any point?
JRPGs have their own slew of problems as well. They usually follow the same tropes you've seen a million times before. Plus, the battle systems usually suck. JRPGs are like anime to me, I hate the vast majority of them, but the ones I like, I really like/love.krazykidd said:Phoenixmgs said:Pretty much this. Sooo...Jrpgs?
I realize that, I watch the show. I'm guessing a GoT RPG will have you fighting enemies most of your time like most RPGs and the battle system for a GoT game will probably be boring because lack of races and classes along with magic as well (since there's not much magic in the show so no mages). If a GoT RPG actually focused on dialog and decision making (scheming and such), I'd be down for it, but I doubt that would be the case. Lastly, probably only Obsidian or Bioware actually have the writing chops to make a good GoT RPG.balladbird said:There are no elves, orcs, dwarves, or any other such fantasy race in Game of Thrones. that said, the grimdark-ness aside, that paradigm shift alone would make GoT a step in the right direction for medieval RPGs. no fantasy races, there is magic, but it's very, very, VERY rare, and a story spurred by pragmatic ambition between factions rather than arbitrary good or evil. I'd be all for it if it captured the feel well.
I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will give you a warning: Does the character seem likable in any way? Yes? Then expect them to suffer horribly, die, or suffer horribly then die. It's that kind of series.axillarypuma said:I think that a GoT Game was released some time ago but wasn't good apparently, i just started watching the series and WOW its freaking awesome, i just finished season 1 so no spoilers please ( just in case ) Anyways, would you like a properly done GoT game, not necessarily following the story, but in the setting or well whatever you'd like, I'd like one skyrim style but with better combat, 3rd person and the same continents to explore, open world of course, and that you could be from a house, or join the night's watch, and that you could explore the north of the wall, and if there is some kind of war, siege weapons, and all that with a proper destruction and physics engine, and dragons of course.
So what would you like for a GoT game?
