Would you live in the past?

Say time travel were possible through some scientific means, or some supernatural means, or however you want to explain it to yourself. You can come back to this time period. Would you want to go into the past?

And if so, which place would you want to "live" in, or try to assimilate into for a while? Where would you visit? And where would you absolutely avoid?

Edit: You'd have all of your vaccines, and could get other immunizations before you go.

Permanently? Hell, no. I like my antibiotics and anesthetics and dental hygiene and so on. Being the huge Shakespeare nerd I am, though, I wouldn't mind visiting Elizabethan London. I'd get a metric assload of immunizations first, though--smallpox was still around, and London kept having periodic outbreaks of the plague until the late 17th century.

Speaking of plague, I'd avoid 14th-century Europe in general. The Black Death killed something like a third of the population. Even if you were immunized against that, though, the secondary infections you could pick up from dead bodies and the social unrest brought on by so much of the populace dying off add up to no fun times for anyone.

I would like to live in the 60's. This might sound stupid, or, irrational, to some people, but the soul reason i would live in the 60's is that no one knew, what drugs did to your body. I don't know about you, but blissful ignorance, is quite a partystarter. Think about it; It seemed far more safe to experiment with drugs back then, but now, it's taboo and weird (and for good reasons.) It probably just end up with the fact, that i think the world has gotten to safe. we have the most dangerous creatures in the whole world (liberal, christian mothers, in my opinion,) saying video games are wrong and that everything, and i mean EVERYTHING, should be protected and safe, while the sixties was far more.... Fun.

But that's just me, flying into my own world again...

That's the time period I'd be all about visiting. Hopefully I could "become" a senator and just kind of hang out and do aristocratic Roman stuff.

I would'nt be worried about any diseases of the past, but the super-evolved diseases that live within me would absolutely destroy the planet in months. So no matter when I went to, everyone around me would die horrible deaths.

I wouldn't want to be brought back into time but born into that timeline, Medieval Times wanna become a knight :)

If I went back there I would get bored fast but if I was born into that time that would become my world no memory's of my past life modern technologies, computers, video games, xbox, ps3 etc etc :p

Live in that time for half my life then brought back to 2011 mysteriously without reason and I'd be in awed and shock and scared but I would love to visit this alien world after living the old world :p

Don't think anyone would want to live in another time with memory's of modern times, unless you intend to take over the world and kill certain targets ;)

This is likely to happen as the Romans were extremely welcoming of non-Roman cultures and looked to foreigners for leadership.

Anyway the only point I would want to go back to would be revolutionary France - Provided I could disappear into the present at a seconds notice. I know history well enough to be aware that I am at the best part of human civilization thus far, but seeing modern history begin would be something.

Likely ancient Rome. I'd be sure to write down a piece of paper with the formula for gunpowder. Imagine how quickly I could pwn those primitive dummies with some firearms. Even though they'd be muskets and not assault rifles, the fact that I'd also have grenades would make sieges so much easier. Plus the noise of a line of muskets firing would send them running for the hills. Even the mightiest barbarian would be a piece of cake to take down with my gun.

I want to live with the dinosaurs, but on beforehand I'd have to be immunized from dieing by them. That'll work out just fine.

For reals? I just want to visit for a bit. See how the Egyptians are doing, ride a mammoth, inhale some real fresh air etc....as long as I know that I can get back to the internets, my computer and iced tea (etc.).

I would go back about 15 years ago. Yes, that's right. I said 15 years ago. (If i go back any further i might be presented with a mild problem of racism hindering me.) When Parliament wasn't seemingly off its rocker like it is now and Bill Clinton was the president of the united states. I would find employment invest in apple like there is no tomorrow and possibly try to warn about the 2005 London bombings and the september 11th attacks

I wouldn't want to live in the past or does a few years ago count?
Ok yes I would eventually adapt to my new surrounding (like how Doc lived in the Westen era in BTTF part 3) but I will have one hell of a time to adjust to the old setting. I suppose if I did end up fully happy and content in the past then it wouldn't matter anymore that I lose the internet and other modern stuff.

It would be neat to drink absinthe with some fin-de-siecle bohemians, but there's no historical period I'd like to stay in.

Like your still Twaddle and i'd do something similar. instead though I'd probably take some videogame walkthroughs or some manga back with me and sell them to there original creators a couple of years before they first started on the idea so i can "show" them how awesome or silly there ideas were/ Like for example maybe try and fix Dante from Devil May Cry 2 so he has at least one or two cocky one-liners and actually has a "Jackpot!" moment

Hmm, my answer depends on how 'permanent' this time travel is if I can only travel once, and am stuck wherever I land, then I want to go back to the 1980's, there's a certain Californian boy I -really- want to be friends with.

But if I'm allowed to be a Tourist and jump around, well then the list is -huge- I want to see how the pyramids were built, who built the Stone Henge, was Jesus really a miracle worker, or the world's greatest charlatan? THere are a thousand other places, but you get the idea, ultimately I wouldn't want to 'live;' in a time period that's too far removed from my own, but I'd -lose- to visit everything I could.

It probably wouldn't "destroy" the planet. If the genes are in you to survive those "super-evolved" diseases, then they would have to exist elsewhere. There would probably be a population (albeit a small one) that has these traits. But yeah, plenty of people would die from your presence. Stop taking the fun out of it, though, and just pick where you want to bloody go.
