Depends on who/what and why we were fighting.

Fighting against Nazis? - Yeah, I'd be a good soldier.

Fighting some poor & weak nation while telling everyone: "Hey, we're awesome!" - I'd go A.W.O.L. as soon as I got the chance.

No, either I'd get killed for being the only soul brave enough to attack the objective or I'd get discharged for not sticking with the platoon and running behind enemy lines.

I could likely never be the soldier I am in the 'gaming world', I'd have to be braver or just stupid to do the stuff I normally pull.

If there's any games that reflect how I'd be if I actually was a soldier, it'd be ARMA. I'm extremely cautious, I rarely take the direct route and only attack when I have support... Things that aren't really reflected when I play CoD or Battlefield.

I'm a fairly good shot with a rifle and 9mm pistol. At 25 yards and 10 yards respectively. However, I know that a .22 rifle is different from something like an M16, both in weight and accuracy. I tried to fire a Thompson machine gun, but it's a lot more weight than I'm used to, and burst fire recoil is pretty hard to control.

If I keep practicing, I'll be a decent marksman. But I just don't have the killer instinct and too much empathy. I'll constantly hesitate, realizing that the people I kill have families, and I would be taking that away from them. I also would probably cave under pressure.

I am THE team player. I follow orders in zeal, and communicate very well. Plus, I have a damn good eye. (Shoots real guns) :p
Are you one of those multiplayer Wizards? Like those absolute freaks that leave you with your head scratching?
How do you mean?
There is always that one person in every second or third match that is a Beast and just dominates. The player that is so good you're left scratching your head saying, "How the fuuuu.....?"

There should be an inverse thread of this for veterans: Would you make a good FPS player?

...which is why I play Portal or Harvest Moon.

Maybe. My success rate with Airsoft for example is about 50-50. Sometimes I'm able to sneak up behind my friends undetected, but some of them are better at hiding and sniping than I.

Sure hope so. I'm leaving for Quantico this May. (Of course, that probably means I'll start preferring the term 'Marine' instead of soldier, even though now I don't see a difference. Getting myself psyched up for some mild brainwashing!)

Same. I follow orders really well, I have decent aim, I have good leadership and could most likely command a small squard ( not right away, but eventually). Of course, I would need basic trainning but who doesn't.

I don't like to brag, but my kills in the game are usually one, if not THE highest. In game modes where dying doesn't do anything in the long run (CTF) (DOM), I don't mind sacrificing myself.

I hate people who care more about their K/D ratio than just about anything else. It restricts and limits your actions so much.

Wait...Are you people actually judging your soldiering ability based on GAMES? Really? Jesus, what the hell happened to you guys? Go watch Full Metal Jacket or Saving Private Ryan or something...There's a difference between war and a fucking paint ball game, it takes more then being a good shot and..."communication skills"....

I, personally, would make a terrible soldier.

Of course in Multiplayer games no one follows orders so it'd be difficult to say whether or not you're a good soldier.

"Respect the rank, not the soldier." Feel me?

But overall at times I guess so. In Bad Company I just go around killing things where possible so that'd be a B- and in Combat Arms I run in to capture the flag or stay behind my base defending/camping/turtling so that'd be a B.

Are you kidding? I would never willingly die for any cause, whatsoever. The moment my commanding officer orders me into a situation where I have anything greater than a 10% chance of death I am defecting/going AWOL/going Rambo on my own goddamn base.

Hell, imagine if your manager at the KFC ordered you into a suicide mission for the good of the company. You should by all rights kick her so hard in the uterus her grandkids could feel it and you should quit that job, in that order.

That, and I'm not so good at blindly following morally questionable orders.

Obviously I wouldn't act out battle in real life as I would a video game. I'd hope I could make a good soldier though, since that's where I'm turning to to pay for college.

I had a go with some friends at paintball... We all sucked(me the most) although we're used to play online FPS... Also I wasn't really in shape so I ended up hurting myself from being crouched all the time...

But with training, who knows?
