In almost every book, movie, tv show, video game, comic book, etc. that contains a story, the protagonist is required to make a decision that will inevitably effect him/her forever. Whether it be good or evil, stories have been defined by choices the hero makes.

For homework, I want you to name a time when a protagonist made a MAJOR choice that you wouldn't choose. Wheter it be when Dr. Breen offered Gordon Freeman a chance to switch sides in Half-Life 2, or Luke Skywalker was offered to join the dark side. Maybe you would choose to join the Combine, or just go back to moisture farming to avoid galactic politics, suprising both the Empire and the Rebels.

I don't mean decisions in games where you get to actually make decisions, or choose your own adventure books, or whatever. Just linear choices in media in which you would've taken a different path.

In before "blue pill".

I'd... IDK... let me think of something profound.

EDIT: Got nothing profound. I'll go with a zombieland spoiler.

I wouldn't kill Bill Murry

In World of Warcraft, I would join The Lich King. I hate parties, so being some kinda imba Blood Elf Rogue type thing so that I could mass murder paladin's would make my day.

I'd take the other choice. As long as I can watch how it would play out, then be able to make the real choice if that sucks too much.

Like in Tears of the Sun, leaving the people and heading back to the boat the first time.

Be specific, please!

I might have not been clear before, but give the name of the videogame/book/movie/etc as well as the character and the decision that you disagree with, and what YOU would do.

I've read plenty of books without these particular decisions.
Seen plenty of tv shows and movies too.
Comics, not so much (too gar and beefy), but decisions that are monumental are not always part of story lines.

A bit of a broad generalization if you ask me.
I could say I've read plenty of books/played many a game etc...with a hard decision made somewhere along the line. Generally, I don' think its an exaggeration. Most stories have some sort of "choice" moment, no matter how trivial. Even if it's something as simple as whether or not to kill your horse and eat it cause your starving.

The end of Oblivion. Martin didn't have to do that, give me 5 minutes with Mehrunes Dagon and I reckon I could send his big red arse packing.

No... no... the only spoiler box I have ever accidentally clicked on and seen from the corner of my eye... and it's this.

Fuck my life.

If I were Ezio, I would spend less time obsessing about the deaths of loved ones, and more time with what is obviously the love of his life, Rosa. It frustrated me to see cutscene after cutscene were he bemoaned his frustration, and flirtatious moments with Rosa that didn't amount to anything due to him being too busy all the time. He even said it himself by the end of the game - he would never get the satisfaction he sought by killing people.
