No.
All the conditions were acceptable if I get to do something else while the game plays the commercials... But 5 minutes while loading, if the game loads often enough, is pushing it.

No, absolutely not, and I'm the kind of gamer who likes to do the save-load dance, so the ads when loading would drive me insane.

No. There are too many (legit) games that I can play for free online. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play Robot Unicorn Attack.

I wouldn't, I'd just buy the game. That's far too much of my time it would waste.

Ahhh the good thing about commercials is... you can always walk away while they are on.

No, No I would not.

I can live with the ads in [Prototype] cause they seem real in a city. But not outside the game, and definitely not so long.

I should start reading full post before commenting like an idiot.
Nope, seems retarded, would never play a game like that. Product placement can actually be beneficial to a game by boosting realism, like real ad's in a soccer game in the ad pannels, or in pannels in the streets in a game like gta or prototype, but the way you describe is just intrusive and sucks.

The first time you load it up you had to watch an hour of commercials which you can't skip - but after that you don't have to see that hour of commercials again.

You have to watch 5 minutes of commercials every time the game loads (no matter how small and every time you play)

After every level or mission you have to watch 10 minutes of commercials, every time.

And when playing a scrolling banner at the bottom of the screen will advertise on and off for a couple of minutes at a time, every time you play.

Would you play a game like this? Remember it is free, you can keep it forever and it is genuinely fun and enjoyable.
hell no - I already have games that are "genuinely fun and enjoyable" that don't slather me in more adverts than I would get trying to watch a freeview channel. Sure I paid some money for them, but at least I've retained my soul. I only watch TV occasionally (with fiends, whilst eating, say) because of the adverts - there's no way I'd subject myself to the sort of overt advertising you're talking about on a regular basis.

And what were you thinking with that 'hour of commercials' when you first load it up?! I was pissed off to the max when I couldn't skip the 2 min opening cinematic for DoW2 when I reinstalled it, I frequently dig around in the game files to disable the developer/publisher opening credits and they only last 30 seconds - does that give you an idea for how much I like the sound of your proposal?

The point of gaming is to have fun and to indulge in escapism, not to be bashed around the face by gaudy highschool psychology trying to create 'brand awareness' through visually and aurally abusive graphics and jingles.

with the "on hour solid" thing, people would just go do something else for the duration of the commercial.

Ten minutes of ads is preposterously long. It would actually be worse for the advertisers, since NO ONE would watch them. Same with the 1-hour commercial.

Now, if it were like five minutes at install and maybe 1 minute between levels, then yeah, I guess I'd play it (if it was a good game).

Whenever I an advert pops up before a video I'm watching online I mute my pc and ignore the advert because the fact that I have to get through an advert to get to the video annoys me, so it would definetly annoy me too much if it were in a video game.

Wait, Prototype had adverts? Lol, never noticed, never cared - the perfect advertising (from my perspective ;P) See, inline, unobtrusive, situationally suitable ads I can live with to the extent that it doesn't affect my gaming at all. Start interrupting play (or delaying it!) with bullshit video ads and I'll be uninstalling that ap faster than... well, than it would have taken me to launch it. (5 minute ad on startup? Retarded...)

No. That would get rather annoying after a while. Especially if the ad was flashy and/or animating. It would a)take away the focus and experience on the game and b) would just be too time consuming to play. I would rather pay for it to have the ads taken away.

Now if I had to only watch 1 hour starting up for the 1st time I would. I would just go and do something while it goes through its thing.
