well that pretty sums up my view and it seems we never change ... much on massProfessorLayton said:This thread has been done so many times before...
The way I am is that I would play the game if it was good. It doesn't matter if the main character is gay or not. The one thing that does bother me is that if a studio were to make a decision to make the main character gay, the reason why would either be for controversy or shock value and you would constantly be reminded of it. The way game studios are is they want attention and a big way to get attention is by announcing that the main character is gay and during the game constantly throwing a barrage of comments about him being gay and imagery and all kinds of stuff. If he mentions he is gay at the beginning of the game or something and after that just goes on with his business and doesn't constantly throw it in our faces, then I'm cool with it. Just so long as it's not done for shock value.
That'd be a fair point if there wasn't a vast multitude of games with a black player characterpurplepixie said:Well quite frankly I'm not sure what sexual orientation has to do with a game's enjoyment. Most of the time I'm playing a main character with a different gender to me and it doesn't stop me enjoying the game so why would the sexual orientation matter.
This question seems a bit grounded in an assumption of homophobia. I mean, would you replace gay with black in the title and still expect it to be allowed on a forum?...
could I just ask when I said that. I said full on, I'm fine if it's implied, or even if we see some arse or whatever, I just have no particular desire to see it.Noelveiga said:When they talk about subconscious racism or homophobia I think they mean this.sethzard said:As long as the game is fun and we don't have to see any full on guy on guy action, it's fine
So you're fine with gays as long as you can pretend they don't have sex with people from the same gender.
Nice.
Whilst I can see what you mean, I would point out that most of the gaming 'greats' involves a hetero perspective (e.g Mario, Zelda, Tomb Raider, Silent Hill, Most FF games even Pacman lol). It's not rammed down one's throat but it's there. I don't think that it's wrong to have straight characters obv but I don't think it should be an event to have a gay one either. Like the original article referenced, just have it as integral but not a selling point.NezumiiroKitsune said:It's true no games has forced it on you, but it's rare a game pushes that your straight either.
Ooooooooh ho ho ho ho ho. (Yep, I'm Santa Claus.) That's one big can of worms you've opened there, my friend.Jadak said:I did play Army of Two.

Why not have a gay character just because?
Aren't all games having straight characters just because?
...grimsprice said:I would prefer if the main character was relatable to me... Just you know... that would be nice. Thats why there are no gay main characters. Because its not the majority of the audience.
Because its so fucking easy to relate to a video game characters.

Uh-huh... see my last post.
Mario: how many times has he rescued the princess? At least a bajillion. How many times has he ended up getting some? Zero.
Of course it could also have something to do with him being a short fat middle-aged plumber, but let's not be ruling out any sensible possibilities here.
As for Link, have you SEEN his clothes? Darling, the boy is fabulous! He's practically a gay icon.
