I have.

Internet cookie if someone can guess the name (Female - Video game)

I know someone who isn't the slightest bit interested in Video games and named their son Link, along with others.

I'd name a son Dante, Virgil, Judas, or Junus.
I know that Dante and Virgil are actual names.

Dante Alighieri is an Italian poet who wrote the Divine Comedy. Virgil is a character within that story who was based on a actual man Publius Vergilius Maro who was a ancient Roman poet.

So those two are more old-fasioned instead of exotic video game names. I'm also quite certain Judas is biblical in nature, as in the apostle that betrayed Jesus biblical.

The thing about names I find is that they either come from an actual name IRL, and so are not made up name sounding names, or are totally ridiculous and would be silly to be used to name a child.

That being said, I too would like to name my sons Dante or Virgil. Throw Isaac onto there too! :D

My name was a compromise between two grandmothers. Lets just say I'm not even sure of the proper pronunciation of my legal name.

I prefer to be called Ed.

So no I wouldn't inflict a weird name on my child. I'm not that evil.

I'll give the next 15 posts to guess where my first son will be named from, winner gets a cookie.

His name will be Grif.
The only one that immediately springs to mind is that Red vs Blue fellow.

Though it's not really exotic it does reflect a hobby of mine (reading).

I do plan on naming my son "Jayne," if that counts.
And he'll grow up to be the man they call Jayne =D

OT: If I ever have a kid I'll be tempted to, but honestly doesn't seem fair to them. It'd amuse me, but I should be picking their name based on that.
Arg. I thought I was over the rage over the long since cancelled Firefly....but the pain just never dies....

That episode was beyond fucking epic.

You see those really aren't so bad because those are all just really old names that video games found and resurrected. If you want to go for something inconspicuous like that then there's not really a problem (provided it doesn't sound exceptionally dumb).

However if I had a daughter and named her Tali'Zorah nar Rayya vas Sexy Devil's House or something dumb like that then you'd have a problem.

Names from a Game? not really... bizarre names? Absolutely.

Twins would be named Lunacy and Lucidity. Luna/Luci shorthand for female, Ace/Luke shorthand for male.

then names get weird. like, really really weird. Deidahmeudaeh for example.

Thread just reminded me of this not exactly on topic but close enough.

Anyway would I name my child something exotic? well probably not, something from a videogame? yeah no problem lots of videogame characters have normal or normalish names like Gumba,Jet set Willy or Donkey Kong perfectly sensible everyday names.

I rather doubt I will be producing offspring anytime soon, but if I were to have a daughter, I would very much like her name to be "Felicia." As in the Darkstalkers character. I just think it is a beautiful name, and the fact it comes from my favorite Capcom character would only make me love my daughter even more. I don't think it's that outlandish, and perhaps my future wife would go along with it. That would make me incredibly happy.

Not sure about a boy though, but I'd think of something.

No because I think it is an extremely dickish thing to name your kid after a video game character, especially if the name is weird. It's at the point where you are forcing nerdyness onto your kid.

I named my last daughter Cambria, it is not really from a video game, but I bet you guys can figure out what inspired the name.

Not really from a video game (although Baldur would be kinda cool, but that's more because of Norse mythology than Too Human), but a name like Jaime or Tyrion might be nice.
Although Rand also has a nice ring to it.....

Any of my suggestions for names will probably end up being names from my favourite musicians, though, like Devin (Townsend), James (Hetfield), John (Petrucci or Myung) or Andy (McKee) if it's a boy, and Angela (Gossow), Tarja (Turunen) or Anneke (Van Giersbergen) if it's a girl.

Some location names from Ace Combat like Anea, Vitoze, Selumna are names I'd consider. I'm very fond of Anea (On-Ee-Ah). If I have a son, any name that sounds good with Duke in the middle, because my last name is...

Why do some people get so butthurt from people naming their children after something prominate in culture? Isn't every name from culture oneway or another? Most of our names come from the bible anyway.

Well, I won't lie, I had considered naming my daughters (if I have any) Tali and Cassie (short for Cassandra from Soul Cal). Tali would be the big sister.

That's probably not going to happen as I planned but eh.

Well I was on a thread a while back where the guy said his sisters kid was named Apple. That's about as weird as you can get so I think video games are alright. Well depending on how weird it is I guess. If you go and name a kid Dohvakhin or something that might be a little awkward for him later in life. I like the name Lydia. Thats a real life name though but also happens to be a video game character so its not always bad.

No, I wouldn't.

Call me old fashioned, but I like to keep my hobbies seperate from naming my offspring.
Yeah, I'm with Daystar. Kids are mean, I don't want to give my kid a stupid name on the off-chance they'll get bullied because of it. Call your son a woman's name? Sure, it's hip and trendy but they won't thank you when kids call them girl. Call them a video game character's name? Dante or Raven may sound cool, but kids will see it as something different, i.e. something to take the piss out of.

Play it safe. Name them Ryan or Emily or Frank or something equally boring. Save your kids some grief. Or, manage to find a name that's equally awesome and not at all stupid sounding. Like Lewis*. All of you name your children Lewis.
