Would you run away if you didn't know what it was from?

Inspired by the escalator video:
If you saw a big crowd of people running away from a certain direction in a panic and you had no idea what they we're running from, would you run as well? Better safe than sorry perhaps?

I'd run. There's probably a good reason why so many people are running. Think of the rat scene from Cloverfield; see a fuck-ton of rats running as fast in one direction as their furry little legs can carry them is kind of a bad omen of what's to come if you stand pat.

I might. Although, I also might just stand there and wait for some actual threat to me to appear. And of course, I'd be very curious as to what said threat is, and I might just wait so that I can see what it is.

And then I won't feel stupid if there was nothing.

I guess I've decided I won't run.

I saw a documentary about this, a few people were told to look up at the sky and pretend something was there. Other people began to do the same even though it was just blank with clouds...

I would run, it's a known fact from movies that you're not the fucktard that just stands there when something bad is coming your way.

After reading your post I somewhat agree, curiosity may get the better of me >.>

Probably, it's human nature.

I really came here because the thread title sounds like the type of 'lyric' one would expect to find etched on the back of a spiral notebook belonging to an overweight emo girl. (Or whatever they're called now, we called them goths when I was in high school)

I don't know. I think there's a reasonable chance I'd do the stupid thing and go have a look, but I might give in to the fear and run like hell as well. If people are running from something, then it's best to assume that they probably have a very good reason for doing so.

Depends when and where, this might be normal behavior at a convention or a concert. If I was just in the mall or something I would just keep walking.

Were I in a scene that is similar to horror movies in all respects? Hell yes.

If not, probably not but not out of curiosity. I'd just assume they were after something or have seen something. I would most likely just hide behind a corner and wait. These days, it's much more probable to assume it's some sort of experiment than a real threat.

Probably not. I'd probably just be confused wondering what was going on. If it seemed dangerous though... I might run off after a few seconds.

I'd probably avoid fleeing in the same direction of the panicked crowd in case of being trampled to death, I'd run elsewhere.

Probably not. I'm a semi-curious individual so I like to know exactly what I'm running from, which is a tendency I expect to thoroughly regret when the Zombie Apocalypse strikes.

If the group is running towards me then I'm certainly gonna run either with them or right out of the way. If I'm watching them go past me I might back up a bit to avoid what is causing them to run.

I'd move out of the way and wait for the threat to make a solid enough appearance for me to judge wether to run or not.

Nah, I wouldn't.

Why? People don't have instincts. Not like animals. If I see animals running in the same direction, there's trouble about and they know it. They also have a better idea on where to run, thanks to greater senses. People? We're a bit limited. Our senses are average, mostly, and our instinct can be countered by personality and intellect. Perceived safety is an opinion generated in the mind, not necessarily confirmed by any other sense. Humans can just as easily run into danger as out.

So, if I see a mass of humans running off in a direction, I would rather employ a different talent: Stealth. Run when there is danger and the threat can find me. Be quiet and the threat will, in all likelyhood, follow the mass of loud people.

This would, of course, change immediately if it was not something you could outsmart, like if World War 3 breaks out and people are running from bombs. You run from bombs, definitely. I guess it really depends on what the problem is...

I would probably try to get out of the way of the crowd first. A fast moving crowd is dangerous in and of itself. At that point I would judge from the disposition of the crowd if people are legitimately frightened or not (I wouldn't wait around to see the danger). If they were I would try to find a more deserted exit or, if none are available, hiding place. In an emergency situation a large group is the last thing you want to be in, especially if there are human assailants who will gravitate towards groups and only search for individuals once they are dispatched.
