Would you still play a game if the main character was gay?

As long as the game was good, and their sexuality wasn't brought up every fifty seconds or seem to be more important than the main plot focus, then yes.

These made me laugh. Good way to start my day before school.

Probably not, and here's why.

For the character to really be gay, they'd have to mention it. For them to mention it and make it relevant, they would have to make it part of the story. This will pretty much invariably be handled poorly, most likely as a tacky gimmick.

So it's not the fact of the protagonist being gay that would put me off, but the way he would almost definitely be presented.

What's the point of all these "spot the homophobe"?
Why would it bother someone if the game is good?

I would play it only if my character wasn't steriotypical gay i.e. used too much makeup, had effeminate postures and would be a cross dresser but a "straight" gay.

Well I wonder how would a character's sexuality affect the actual gameplay and plot aside from the possibility of exploring side quests related to it? I mean unless the game was meant to be a joke and use stereotypes or even attempt to base the whole game around a character's/s' sexuality then it would probably end up being crap or a sex game... If the game is like this then I probably wouldn't play it. Also if a game trys to use it as a 'in-your-face, get the message' feature, I probably wouldn't play it. But if it was done in way that I have heard it was done in one of the Persona games or something like in DA then I probably would play the game as it adds to the story or is something optional.

Oh sure, why not? Gay people can do things just as well as straight people? But i would like to opt out on the romance parts....and skip the sex scenes.

The sexuality of main characters doesn't bother me at all. If Cloud from FFVII had been gay, I don't think it would have affected the story all that much- just a few tweaks needed here and there.

I think the only time it would make a difference would be if it was overdone ie. the character having to be a flaming stereotype, rather than someone who just also happens to be gay, or if they were talking about how great it is to be gay every 5 seconds.
If it's just a part of the character's personality, then that's great- if it's a sales gimmick, it would be destined to be shit, annoying and disrespectful.

Depends,
If it's just mentioned in passing like "BTW i'm gay", Sure no problem.

If it's handled like "OMG I'M SO GAY, LET ME PICK A NICE RIBBON TO GO WITH MY GUN WHILE WE"RE RIDING ON A PINK TANK". Hell no I will never play that game no matter how good is it

Like pretty much everyone else has said, I would as long as the character wasn't just a stereotype. In fact, I already have a pretty decent gay character in Fallout: New Vegas thanks to the wonders of the "Confirmed Bachelor" perk :D

For me, it's both a yes and no.

If it's a game where the character is coincidently gay then it wouldn't bother me, I'd still enjoy the game regardless.

If it's a game where attention is brought to the characters sexuality mutiple times then no.

I'd be fine with it if it was a core element of the game and the character, not just thrown in with a neon-light displaying "LOOK HOW COOL AND ACCEPTING WE ARE".

To clarify what my feelings are on the situation, if I found out a stranger, friend or family member was gay, I'd have no issue. If any of the said kept bragging to me how gay (Or straight) they were, I'd be inclined to give them a punch.

I guess i'd feel a bit uncomfortable of they made a big deal about it, like sex scenes or something, but i have no inherent problem with playing 'gay' games.

Straight white male or gtfo D:

I don't care either way. As long as it's not the stereotypical eccentric "wavy hands" gay you see on TV, it doesn't make a difference to me.

It only depends on how good the game is, if it's an awesome game and the main protagonist is gay then I'll get it, if it's a shit game and the main character is gay then I'll probably miss out on it because it's crap.

I'm already playing gay gals in every RPG which offers this choice :p

Seriously though, it doesn't matter to me. The only important thing is that the character is well designed. And as long as the game doesn't point out on every possible occasion "Oh, look here, the main protagonist is gay! Are you looking? I'm going to point it out to you anyway just to make sure you've noticed." I'm fine with it.
