Wouldn't the world be generally much better If the population were like the escapists?

Frankly I don't think the world would be a very good place to live in if everybody spent their time worshipping Valve. We would end up making them world leaders or something.
1st day with Gabe Newell as King of the World: Half of world economy dedicated to cake research. Half Life 3 announced.

2nd day: Gabe delivers speech, but it is inaudible due to him scarfing down chocolate cake on stage. No sign of Half Life 3 release date.

3rd day: World hunger becomes extreme crisis, Gabe sits on his chair and keeps eating the cakes of all the world's bakeries. Half Life 3 release date TBA

4th day: Small revolts break out. Gabe continues eating cake.

5th day: Coalition against Valve Empire forms. They plan to assasinate Gabe by stabbing, but their knives simply bounce off his body. Continues eating cake. HL3 TBA.

6th day: Coalition just lights Valve building on fire and leaves facility to reenact scenes from Mad Max. Half Life 3 shelved for future re-announcement.

Valve would become a church, and every time somebody wants to change the topic of conversation, they use a Nathan Fillion gif to do so. Finally, I can imagine a mob of men arguing over gender issues, with various women watching, and bored expressions languishing on their faces.

It'd be like today's society except only the gamers who are left. Sounds pretty dangerous to me.
Most communities are fundamentally the same anyways. The Escapist is just on a smaller scale, as in, murder is like racism on the forums which earns a lifetime jail sentence which is a perma-ban. Same game, different scale.

We'd have to have specially-designated assassins to kill off those who hold wildly extreme views, or speak ill of the mothers of other members of our society, because here on the Escapist we've got those, and they're known as Moderators.

You want to try justifying a group of people IRL who punish those that just insult other people?

Not really, no.

Well there might be less Darwin award winning candidates about, but that's about it.

Why yes. There's nothing I'd like better than to see world leaders meet for the next G20 summit to discuss Why Women Hate Nice Guys.

[sub][sub]That was a joke.[/sub][/sub]

In all serious though, the Escapist forums are pretty civil, for the internet. As far as real world social interaction goes we're still not great shakes.

Not a chance. We've got a lot of arrogant folks, a hell of a lot of misanthropic teens and tools who will act like they agree with us here to try to get more friends or badges or whatnot.

These people act civil on forums on rare occasions. Just look at posts from people who are banned. Hell, just look at a March Madness thread. These people are civil when they think the mods are watching and then more spiteful than most of the internet whenever they think they can get away with it.

Take Game of Thrones and make everyone Joffrey and you'd have a society of Escapists.

[quote/]People on this website are exactly what the title of the website says they are: Escapists. They probably all have problems IRL[/quote]
uuuhhhh...speak for yourself..please

just because somone ejoys usuing an itnernet forum does not automatically make them some damaged weirdo

[quote/]that they hide from by spending a few hours a day telling people their opinions, and to say that these opinions are by majority 'reasonable' or 'tolerant' is just misguided.[/quote]
having a place to express ones opinion is very cathartic

*looks at post*....hmmmmm....

[quote/] but surely the majority of people here would gladly laugh at your mum if they saw her ride a skateboard then smack you face into a curb.[/quote]

This is one of the more self-aware, self-depricating communities out there.

I honestly think a lot of acknowledge that none of us have any business leading anyone. That's not to say this isn't a particularly progressive place, especially by internet standards. But we just aren't arrogant enough to be a leader.

And I understand what you mean, but we DO have a couple of racists, homophobes and/or sexists here. The only differences are 1.) They are in the minority for once. 2.) They have good grammar.

Anyway, I feel like there's a certain point of wisdom were you realize that no one has any business leading anyone, unless you're a parent to a child or a teacher to a pupil. And even then you have to acknowledge the power you have over that fragile mind.

Umm, no.
I feel like the general Escapist community is too judgmental towards the irrational, the religious, and those that act based on emotion rather than logic or reason.
In essence, the stereotypical INTJ's wet dream.

I've noticed that the Escapist tends to be in favor of scientist's mindset of being, practical, real, and highly dependent on statistics. A lot of Escapists view what is the most probable as what is actually true. No matter what the context is.

I would much prefer it if the world's population had more philosophers (INTP's) in it, myself.
However, all types of people add something to world. If the entire world's population were philosophers we'd never get anything done.

Hahaha NO.

Seriously. The Escapist is the last community I want the world based on. People here are just...mean. I know people everywhere are mean, especially on the internet, but it's not uplifting to see some guy innocently put in their two cents on a topic and then some asswipe tears their post apart, insulting them every few lines. For a community that likes to preach about how open and welcoming they are, people here are really cruel if they don't like what you say.

Plus, it'd be boring if every day or two I'd have to be talking about gender roles and sexism in games.
