I'm doing a report on WoW addiction for my Media Production class, and I need various opinions/etc. If anyone would answer these questions for me/discuss it'd be greatly appreciated. c:

-

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for?

In that time, what have your experiences been?

Can you see yourself being addicted?

Can you see how others become addicted to it?

Roughly 2-3 month infrences. I play for 3 months after starting a new character, stop for about 7 months and then start back up.

I've met a decent guild on each of my Characters. It was surprisngly what drove me to keep playing. When the Guilds died or when they just went to fast for me, I lost interest to play. In my time while playing, I've grinded from level one to somewhere between 50-70 in those time (Which is pretty slow by normal standards)

Proably. If I ran into another nice guild to level with and have fun with.

Of course I could, most people judge WoW based on the first 30 minutes of leveling, but they don't realize that one of the greatest factors of an MMORPG is the MMO part. The power you get later on adds to the experience, but at first being social is what makes the game awesome.

-For over 5 years, intermittently.

-Good and bad. Met some great people, met some real assholes. In games like this, it's the people you meet that define your experience.

-Not really. I was close to when it first released, but it died down over the months.

-Yes, I can. I've known of cases.

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for?

Roughly 1 year... dont play now

In that time, what have your experiences been?

How many people dont understand the game.. and what you see in the game and you see how u can escape frokm reality

Can you see yourself being addicted?

No not now.. but i can see why people are. Wow is all about challenge. of lvling and farming for gold not being killed killing other ect. it is a challenge that most people try to beat and u can get engrosed in it if u play for to long

Can you see how others become addicted to it?
Yes i can its easy to become addicted to it if u play it for long enough . I think most people should limit to 2 hours maximum on wow but that is personal opinion and when u play it for long enough no one will listen to u after it

Hope that helps u

I need to change the format of the answers a bit for my report, is it okay if I include this:
"I tend to play for 3 months after starting a new character, stop for about 7 months and then start back up. I've met a decent guild on each of my Characters, and that was surprisingly what drove me to keep playing. When the Guilds died or when they just went to fast for me, I lost interest in playing. If I ran into another nice guild to level with and have fun with, and they remained active, I can see myself getting addicted? most people judge WoW based on the first 30 minutes of leveling, but they don't realize that one of the greatest factors of an MMORPG is the MMO part."
?

Thankyou guys c:

- About 3 years intermittently

- Mostly good, I ignore assholes and love to raid with my guild. I have 2 80s, a paladin and a death knight. Most of my raiding career has been done via tanking or healing(best tank and heals ever imo)

- I am addicted, not gonna deny it not gonna do anything about it.

- My friend is just as addicted as I am so yes I see how people can become addicted to it. I'd say that my friend and me playing it together definitely helped that addiction. We both also love every aspect of WoW from leveling, to raiding, to pvp.

I played about 2 years or around 1.2k hours on xfire...yeah

never really raided or joined a guild only did pvp(that may be the reason the game never consumed my life for which I am thankful)

Maybe when I first started but the game soon became stale and played only once in a while. It was always there for when my other games became boring. Most of the time played is leveling and being afk :p

Yes 2-3 of my friends were and/or are(not in touch with them at the moment) they would stay up all night and only talk about that. My brother who got hooked failed or barely passed most of his classes in last year of high school, his ambitions went away.

that is my view of the in a few words: world of warcrack, its not for everyone but once it gets you your fucked.

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for?
around 2 years on and off, about a solid 8 months

In that time, what have your experiences been?
my exeriences have mostly been good, there is always going to be drama when you put a bunch of people together and make them be nice to each other. Guilds are full of issues. I played a shadow priest, which was always interesting.

Can you see yourself being addicted?
Yes and No, it's easy to just jump on and play but at the same time I always found it easy enough to go do other stuff with my time rather than just sit around in a city or something waiting for things to happen

Can you see how others become addicted to it?
definitely, I personally don't have an addictive personality but many of the people who play do. In most guilds I've been in I'd say of the people who are of age 75% smoke 90% drink and about 60% do both. This makes sense to me, sorry if it doens't to you, basically a lot of people are addicted to this drugs.

they are people who are addicted to other things and wow is just another vice on the list and then they go and combine all three of them together. I can't tell you hwo many times I've raided with drunk or high players.

I'd say one of the main reasons peopelg et addicted is the social aspect and the feeling of oweing your time to other peopel or that others are counting on you

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for? I've played wow for almost 5 years now. And I think I've got something close to 170 days played (in game).

In that time, what have your experiences been? Most of the time it's fun but if you're playing with people you don't like the game will suck.

Can you see yourself being addicted? No

Can you see how others become addicted to it? Yeah somewhat.

1. I have been playing on and off since launch. I have quit and restarted more then once and I am currently on my fourth... relapse.

2. Mostly good, you have to deal with the idiots and crybabies like you do in any online community. But I have made some good buds while playing. There are two that I have always dropped a line to when I have restarted each time and we will play together until I quit.

3. No, I put my social life before my WoW life. The only time I ever put it first was when I started playing in the beginning. That's only because almost all my IRL friends played it and it was new to everyone.

4. Yeah, it has a sense of accomplishment... oddly. And to people who don't have an active social life or a job or something else to occupy their minds I could see how it could get out of hand.

Almost 2 years.

WoW is like anything else on the internet. There's good people, there are dicks. There are people who take it too seriously and there are people who take it too lightly.

Maybe; I'll explain more next question.

There isn't anything unique to WoW that makes it "addictive." Instead, people get addicted to the positive reinforcement that the game can offer, like a lot of other things can. If you work a job and feel under-appreciated, like no one ever notices the good work you do, then WoW seems great. You do something, you get a reward. WoW mostly addicts those who are missing a pat on the back in real life.

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for? About 3 years

In that time, what have your experiences been? Molten Core through every raid up to the twins in Sunwell. Minus Naxx.

Can you see yourself being addicted? I most definatly was.

Can you see how others become addicted to it? Easily, the game is designed to be addicting.

I quit WoW about the time the Frozen Throne expansion hit. I had played it for about 2-3 years before that and was pretty addicted. When I left the game I had clocked around 280 days of play, real time 24 hour days that is.

I quit due to the lucky combination of Work, a woman in my life and the expansion pack resetting things to 0.

How long did you play or have you been playing World of Warcraft for? 4 years.

In that time, what have your experiences been? Some people don't get addicted, some people do(really addicted), I have a friend who still plays 8 hours a day+ when he can and he's been playing since released

Can you see yourself being addicted? I might have been at one stage, but I lose interest, so I can't have been that "Addicted", it was just a good way to past time as I had no prospects

Can you see how others become addicted to it? Yes. But not how they maintain that addiction for so long, especially at this stage, I don't get it.
