WoW getting repetitive?

I used to be a avid WoW player awhile back but found that these expansion packs were lacking in the expansion type I was looking for. Both have been slight additions to making a character and then a new area with the lot of quests and items and so forth. This gets a bit repetitive after WoTLK. Why not a 3rd party faction and while DK came close it was just a class not a unrestricted faction. There never has been 2 sides to one argument why start now? The quests are okay but tedious and resort to getting the quest finding the monster and taking a certain loot and while it isn't always that it seems to be quite the theme. I tried playing on a PS for hopes of a different content but while they claimed to be free there were always donations involved to get anything good. The game is great in the start although I found that the game required serious dedication and was bad for causal gamers. It is geared towards a certain audience that perhaps doesn't find the constant patches and worthless updates boring and repeating but I do. The Quest are boring the characters are limited and factions are very black and white.

So... Don't play WoW.

You seem to not like it, why not try a different MMO?

Though, if you dislike the grind, try playing something that isn't an MMO seeing as every MMO ever has had grind.

I am surprised you made it to WOTLK... I found BC to be essentially the same things except higher numbers on damage and health etc. and new skins for the same things. I could not convince myself to even try WOTLK because I figured it would be the same as usual, and most people I have spoken to that did play it confirmed this lol.

Guild Wars is the first MMO that I have ever seen that did not use the grind method for its content... and I think it did a pretty good job. Too bad no other developer that I know of followed the formula of low level, but more emphasis on play style.

No shit.
Lol, my sentiments exactly.

I'm worried that it took him 5 years to realize this. Oh well, better late then never.
Actually I started playing around 3-2 years ago. It was the thing at school and I figured it was perhaps worth my time. In the beginning it rocks then sucks. I created every possible character and leveled to around 40 then stopped. Too boring too easy.

I knew someone would beat me to the sarcastic remark. :p

OP: Isn't that the point of WoW? To be mindlessly-repetitive and highly-addictive?

Could you elaborate please? I usually played a healing monk which mostly I just explored the PVE aspects of the game. Any pvp I did play on characters could only be considered grinding if you were faction grinding, but you could buy every skill in the game without setting foot in any arenas.

If grinding means having to repetitively obtain something or complete something to obtain something or unlocking something else then every game is a "grind".

For example:
Collecting stars in Mario 64.
Completing missions in any game.
Beating other teams in sports games to win the season.

all these things could be considered "grinding" then.

Frankly, I log off for months at a time when it starts to get repetitive, and sign back on later when either I have more time or my interest has rebuilt. It gives a lot of time for changes to accumulate, and I still haven't explored the whole game world.

The fact that you've gone five years is kind of worrying, though. I can't imagine any game holding my interest for that long at a time. You might want to move on to another MMO...

I agree leveling up a character to max level is probably the most boring thing you can do with your time.

However its all worth it for the joy of doing 25-player raids which require extreme coordination and skill, adding to that management skills to keep a large player base running smoothly and happily. It really doesn't compare to anything I have played outside this game. You will probably find it in other MMO's as well though I havent played them. The level of finetuning Blizzard has reached in designing encounters is quite awesome. A single mistake from 1 of the 25 people means a failed attempt.

For me the game really starts at max-level. Its also pretty damn fast to reach nowadays.

Until a non-MMO game manages to reach the same level of teamwork at this scale which isnt a shooter (or other reflex-based genre) I will stick with MMO's. I agree the grinding is repetitive but for some reason you just cant find the equivalent of high-end raiding without the grinding in any game I know of.
