That's just a nitpick.
There you are! :D

See, you're nitpicking because you really don't have a leg to stand on. Judging by your description of fights in WoW, I can tell that you have never played the game, in which case you have no basis for judgement. Play the game, get to the level cap, arena, raid, and then come back and argue that the game takes no skill. I've been playing for three years now. I know a lot about this game and I can tell you that sitting down at a computer to kill Arthas requires much more skill than being able to pick up a controller and go +3 K/D on average in every CoD or Halo match I play.

So you're agreeing the fight animations are bad. I could play a game with that but the fact that the game is so damn monotonous really ruins it. If WoW had more interesting missions and quests I might start playing it again but the "kill x amount of units or go from point A to point B" is really boring. I would rather run around and camper kill personally.

I've tried to play WOW before, and I've really tried to enjoy it but it just doesn't do it for me. Some of my problems have to do with all MMOs and some are just specific to WOW (or games that are pretty much clones of WOW)

One of the problems that I have with MMOs in general is probably one the reason why I (and I'm sure a lot of other people) play games in general. When I play a game I find it much more fun if your character is special or unique. Pretty much every single player game (barring most war games) is like this. In MMOs it is difficult to tell yourself apart from any one of the other 1000 or so characters who are probably just like you. I`m sure that once you reach level 80 or similarly higher levels you begin to become somewhat more unique but that brings in my next issue with the game.

You need to devote a huge amount of time to WOW before it actually becomes enjoyable. Last time I tried to play it and only ended up getting to level 15. I realized that I couldn't find anything I enjoyed about the game and decided to quit. Spending 15 levels doing mundane tasks got repetitive and boring. It would be alright if it was just one of the two, ie: repetitive or boring. I can stand to do an exciting task over and over again but I don't find the enjoyment in collecting x amount of y to give to z, and even less so when that's pretty much all I do. Another problem I had was that the entire goal of the game was to get to the next level. I don't have any issue with a level based system but I want to look forward to more in a game than getting to the next level.

And the last problem is not an issue with the game, more so with myself. Regardless which MMO game I play I just feel no inspiration to interact with other players because I am unusually anti-social. So why even bother playing with a million other people if I'm just soloing mission after mission anyways?

Firstly, I play WoW, but I'm not a take-a-bullet-for-the-alliance kind of player. I play casually with a group of friends, and I find it fun and refreshing.

The point I'd like to address is where you said Multiplayer Fps' are 'fun because there actually is some gameplay (aka fun)'. Gameplay and 'fun' do not go hand in hand; because fun is subjective, gameplay is not. The statement you made seems to imply that the reason you prefer FPS over MMO is because you don't think MMO have gameplay and are repetitive; whilst FPS are not repetitive and have loads of gameplay.

Both genres are repetitive, however an MMO like World of Warcraft has far more content than any FPS, and you stated that gameplay=fun. With your own logic: World of Warcraft should be one of your favourite games.
But WoW requires little to no skill. Maybe some occasional thought process and a few strategic moves but thats it. An FPS is based on reflex and accuracy. The veteran players even use tactics. WoW just lacks this key element. All it needs is time. Lots and lots of time.
Oh I've played WoW for quite a while on different levels and I can tell you this is just not true. Players in the topguilds have a fundamentally different way of playing than the average casual raider. Not talking about PvP here either.

I never agreed to it. I just said that you are nitpicking. I actually prefer the animations in WoW.

And you've just said it yourself, your opinion will not change because you would rather do something monotonous and annoying in a different type of game. You've backed up what I've said three and four posts ago, yet you continued to keep this alive. There was never any discussion or argument here because you never had an open mind from the beginning. You still don't. Which is sad, see, I was open to you convincing me that there was a reason that WoW was not fun and had no gameplay or skill. However, the only thing you ever gave me was that the fight animations are boring, which they are anything but.

Thank you for playing.

I have played it several times throughout its evolution and never really got into it. I have several friends who love it and I do enjoy playing with them, but I just couldn't play it for more than a week or so. I guess so many people trying to convince me that it really is fun and that I should give it another try has gotten me a bit irritated. I'm pretty sure that if I didn't like it the first 3 tries I'm probably not gonna like it the 4th.

I don't necessarily hate the game, I just hate it when people try to convince me that I must have been wrong cause it really is awesome and that I should play it just one more time!

Also, I dislike WoW because of the way it evolved. It used to be challenging for quite a lot of people, now it's easy but for shitloads of more people.

Personally, I hate it because it turned ever so many of my friends into anti social addicts who aren't much for doing anything, including looking for jobs or parenting.

Sure, that might speak of the quality of people that I spend time with, but I for one, got tired of watching children go neglected and friends more worried about running their guild then paying their own bills...

What's worse, is that if WoW wasn't the cause of it, I fear that something else would have filled its place instead...

Also, I've known people to play WoW with a newborn baby precariously balanced in their lap. Not strapped in or swaddled, but just SITTING there, just waiting to fall off. Either WoW makes people into idiots, or it appears to be some sort of "idiot buff" that gives them and extra 40 percent towards their idiocy rating.

That being said, and my angry rant being over... Are my friends just idiots or is the game the cause or for that matter, is the game a crutch, allowing them to act in such a way?

You said that you have been playing this game for how long? That's really harsh. Saying I have a closed mind (which I probably do) but acting like you don't. Your opinion is just as biased as mine. If I convinced you WoW sucked you would have to agree that you have wasted a good portion of your life playing a bad game (instead of playing a fun game or getting laid or something). That would be a considerable blow to your pride. So this a losing fight for both of us.

If you dont like it then dont play it, its that simple. No ones holding a gun to the back of your head and forcing you to pay the subscription. To be honest im probably as sick of hearing people ***** about the game as non WoW'ers are of hearing about the game. All these people saying "oh it eats up all your time and destroys your social life" and the like.. well.. what are you doing with your free time? Whinging about the damn game!! I've played it on and off for the last four years and i enjoy it. So leave me in peace to enjoy something i think is fun and get on with your own so obviously exciting lives.

Dude, just leave please, you are embarrassing yourself.
People play wow because they have fun, have you thought of that? I have been playing for 2 and a half years and I am probably going to quit because it is starting to get less fun, but for those 2 and a half years I have had heaps of fun and met some of my best friends. I have played many many many FPS's over those years as well, which are also fun but don't have the content that WoW does and they become very repetitive and boring.
And dropping down to the level of saying WoW players need to get laid? seriously? You do realize that about 40% of the WoW player base is female and many people have had successful relationships because of WoW?
Bottom line is, People have fun on WoW, people have fun on FPS's, but people don't play the same FPS for thousands of hours because it gets repetitive and boring, just like WoW, but way quicker.

Three years, just about.

I would not have to agree that I've wasted my time playing it for this long if you had convinced me, however, because I enjoyed my time playing. I would cancel my subscription, of course.

Bringing up sex as a benefit of not playing a game is just stupid and immature. I mean, how can you guarantee that if I hadn't been playing WoW, I would be having sex? Even then, why would you even begin to assume that I value having sex over everything else? I will let you know that I continue to play and am still dating a wonderful girl and holding onto a social life. Not that I can prove that to you, seeing as you most likely won't believe me (what with your closed mindedness and all).

My opinion is not biased in this case. I have tried both of the types of games that you have brought up and played the hell out of them. However, I stuck with WoW longer because I was having a more difficult time with it. I find improvement in my games fun. I don't find going +3 and winning every match I play fun. Thats just not how I work.

My pride has nothing to do with this at all. I had fun with WoW, still do. Sometimes I get bored, take a break, and then come back and play again. I have my sense of moderation, so I don't spend my entire day playing. You keep attempting to attack me, in which case all you do is get me closer and closer to writing off everything that you have said to me.

I've got a friend currently pushing me hard to play the game. I love RPG's. But the concept behind most of these grind-fest MMO's are ridiculous to me. There's little real sense of story. No true character depth, and a truly addictive sense of competition.

Plus they really don't shut up about it.

Every time I hang out with this friend (Who's free time is nearly monopolized by this horrid game.) he has to "show" me why I should play, and tries to encourage and pester me into buying it, and purchasing time for the game.

His selling points are about how he goes on a mission "Raid" with some ridiculous amount of people, is told how he sucks on vent, and they all fight for a single item that will go to just one person and be super great... Oh but that item cant be sold or traded? And it doesn't advance a story at all.

I mean... Wtf? And then showing me the 50 bajillion horribly named colors for items (Epic, rare, gunderschlagen....) I mean... At least regular games have an end.

This one seriously doesn't. And is all about doing the same things daily!

Dude forget it. You play your games and i'll play mine. This started as me telling everyone why I don't care for MMOs in general. I really didn't want to have to argue with half the goddamn people on this site. So I say again, just forget about. I have been posting these arguments not because I believe them but because I got ganged. When ten people say you're wrong one gets slightly defensive. Sorry if I offended you. And the laid part was a joke (loaded with stereotypes, I know).

I don't hate the game, no, the game itself is fun (in some respects) and well thought out designing to various tastes. What I hate about WoW is how it gives no one else in the industry a chance. No one else can get a foothold in an MMO market without being compared to it. It's like every soft drink in the world failing before Coca Cola because everyone tries to compare it to it. That's what I dislike, but it's not just WoW I hate with it, it's any company that doesn't give anyone a fighting chance. Yes I know, it's CAPITALISM in a nut-shell and it's gonna end up being owned by just one industry unless there's an apocalypse that burns all the license agreement forms. It's just unfair though and cruel, letting no one have a chance...that's what I hate and it's pretty much what WoW runs off...still it's a good game...it's just evil...

Chill out, holy shit. The never getting laid joke was exactly that, a joke. But now that you attack like this I'm not so sure it's a joke for you. Calm down. I was telling everyone why I, as in me not you, don't like MMOs. Keep your precious WoW, I sure as hell don't want it.

Thank you for the apology (one of the reasons that this community has held me for so long), as I did get a little offended, I'll be the first to admit it.

Problem with jokes online is that sarcasm is very difficult to translate through text.

And goddamn these captchas... They get more and more difficult to type and I hate cycling through them...

I dont hate WoW in particular, I hate all (mostly) MMO's. To me its just grinding the same task over and over and over and over aain so you can purchase better equiqment so you can take on new tasks you can grind over and over and over...

I hate it because I played it for a couple of months and had 0 fun doing so. I don't hate it in a way that makes me tell people they are stupid for playing it and having fun, I hate it in the way I hate Minecraft- I tried it and didn't like it so I would hate spending more time with it.

But to the people that do like it, I'm glad you found something you enjoy and keep playing until you tire of it if you ever do.

Now do it again, 7 billion times (sorry, I know it hurts to hear a game being compared to that piece of shit by Zynga). Oh and they fucked the name of the RTS, which I really enjoy.

"Hey, wanna play Warcraft?"
"Sure. I got my character to level sixty yesterday."
... "NO NOT THAT ONE YOU DICKHEAD!"... "I'm gonna go kill myself now."

FPS is just as repetitive, spawn die spawn die spawn get a kill then die 5 times more.
