http://www.crunchgear.com/2011/05/05/videos-brainwave-controlled-cat-ears-necomimi/
i honestly do not know what to say about these.
so i figured i'd share something this strange.
enjoy!

[edit:] okay, here's how it works. when you are concentrating, the ears stand up. when you are excited, they wiggle. when you are relaxed, the ears lie down. they do seem to be made from a modified neurosky headset. still, these would be great at high school or college. or anywhere, really. people see the ears, they think nothing of it. then the ears move!

[edit:] update: the ears may also come in black with white insides, along with the white with pink insides. according to the neurowear facebook page, they plan to release the necomimi far sale before the end of the year. price not set. they probably have an order from me :)

OH NO, HARMLESS/SILLY FASHION ACCESSORIES SCARE ME SO MUCH.

Pretty cool though, the technology has some potential.

Don't you mean Ah shit, furries control high tech industry in Japan!

Now, is there any way I can get a brainwave controlled T-shirt that turns red when I'm angry (without having to stab anyone first).

Umad?

No but seriously, it doesn't have to appeal to furries, afterall they write or draw on the subject of anthropomorphisism, not nekos, inus, etc.

Wow.... going from the commercial to the video of people using them, doesnt look like they work very fluidly. looks more random to me.

I hope this is for Japans version of Halloween.......

"The wearer concentrates or sees something interesting and the ears stand up. And when you relax, your decreasing brain activity makes the ears fall down."

I'm a terrible person for thinking, "What's the big deal? Guys already have one of those."

Ignoring the fact that I've never understood the appeal of girls with cat ears, the technology behind them sounds really cool. It's like the mood ring has been updated for the 21st century.

sorta what I was thinking.

It's still a cool tech though. I can think perhaps more badass applications, like self-defense mechanisms found in some animals, like spikes that rise up when startled or something.

That's what I was thinking. If you can make something like this, maybe it could be used as a way to help people who can't communicate (like people who are paralyzed) to be able to express themselves visually.

Heh. I wanted to make a robotic tail at one point. I like these...

But I can't help but notice the video of 'real' people trying it... The headgear involved is pretty bulky.

Also, the actual behaviour of those ears is really weird. It doesn't look anything at all like how cat-ears behave. XD

(But then, except for anger, cat-ears mostly seem to react to the direction of sounds the cat is trying to focus on.)
