Nope, played it for 2 years, got burned out/bored. Have gone back for less than 2 weeks on only 2 occasions, and was reminded both times why I stopped in the first place. Boring. Mindless. Grind.

I'll probably download it just to walk around and see. I'm hoping to get a job in the industry someday, and I feel that it's important to at least try out the blockbuster games. And there's no question that WoW occupies a huge place in the history of game development.

But I doubt very much that I'll play it seriously. It just sounds as if there's way too much grinding to be done before you can really get into the game.

I quit playing last year after a group of Guild members left for other mmos. I certainly would reurn assuming my good friends would also, My time investment would be minimal at best with it.

WoW had its fair share of stupid hard raid fights and pulls. This was before the Lich King expansion and I enjoyed Burning Crusade TONS more then Lich King and Cataclysm combined.

Over 10 million people are paying to be bored! Makes sense!
Logical fallacy: Band wagon appeal.

If you've played anytime in the last two years you'd realize how little effort is required in this game, it's the reason I quit playing.
It's not really effort. It's how you need to level up 84 times to get to the REAL game Blizzard intends for you to enjoy.

You fart around for 84 levels, which is boring. You need to level up your professions, which is boring.

I never said it was hard. I said it was time consuming and boring.
This attitude puzzles me. Some of the best stuff is low/mid-level stuff. For example, VC, the very first instance on Alliance side (unless they've added an even lower one in the past few years) is pretty damn awesome. Horde side had some good low-level stuff too.

Hell, I didn't even like a lot of the end-game stuff.

I quit WoW about 2 years ago. I missed the high level stuff of the original, reaching lvl 60 just before the expansion, raided my ass off in TBC and had to endure the Lich King reset. When they announced the next expansion I quit the game for good. I HATE!!!! the increased level caps that come with each new expansion. Even if they made the game completely free, I still wouldn't play it. UNLESS, they remade all the instances and raids of the original and made a collector's inventory for all old items. That being said, I really miss my druid sometimes ;)

I actually like this. I used to play obsessively due to how long it takes to reach level 80, and because paying for it meant I felt obligated to play as much as possible.

Now I can just use WOW to dick around occasionally instead of wasting my life.

You have to realize that slowly upgrading your character IS fun for a ton of people. Doing it with friends is even more so. Call it a bandwagon if you want, I loved my time in the game and guess what? I quit when when I grew tired of it. When I say effort, I mean I can progress in a fraction of the time compared to most people It has nothing to do with difficulty, which was my point.

Also from the sound of things, you don't enjoy lower level content. Obviously the game is just not for you.

ALSO ALSO: fuck this ad capcha, why do I keep forgetting this shit exists.

Except the end game content is where all the development time/balancing goes. I wouldn't mind if the earlier stuff was actually worked on by Blizzard.

Ok? Why the hell post in a WoW thread then? All your doing is purposefully pissing off those who actually like the game. Which then derails the topic.
Because... I was asked if I'd actually play it once it's free and I answered honestly?

Well, firstly I never mentioned difficulty. I mentioned how time consuming/tedious it was. Secondly, I honestly don't think I'd want to meet such a person. Like when I found out my sister watches Grey's Anatomy. I told her she was way too young to be that boring.

Yes. It's free after all, what's the harm? I might not play it, but there's nothing wrong with having the option.

Once I get through with my recent Steam game purchases...I fully intend to try out WOW.

I look forward to seeing what the big deal is all about. People tend to either hate the game with a passion, or are addicted to the experience. Only time will tell which side of the fence I fall on.

I never mentioned difficulty either, i'm not sure why you keep bringing up the fact that it isn't difficult.(like, no shit it's easy :D) It's still fun and it doesn't take that long to level especially compared to pretty much any other MMO. Again, maybe MMO's just aren't for you, which is cool.

Only if a bunch of my friends play too, in which case it'd be great fun. Private server, ho!

Hell yeah! I have always loved Warcraft, but I just don't have the income to pay a monthly bill for one game.

It looks fun, so I would give it a shot.

Labour for no purpose or gain? No.
you do realise thats what pretty much every game is.
if thats what you believe, why are you on a gaming website?
OT: it doesnt work, because of the level cap (level 20). i got to level 20 last week. i just bought the damn game, because i aint starting bloody again.
You're right; a lot of games are just labour, but people don't realize.
"Oh, I have to do this challenge; I haven't gotten the trophy for it yet"
That kind of mentality gives people a rush for playing, but often it's not actually rewarding. However, there ARE games that give you a rush because it's fun. For instance, I can think of at least 3 or 4 games that I play knowing I'll never really reach any further achievement in them, but they're still just plain fun.

Other games, I just play through the singleplayer storyline, in the hopes that it remains fun.
