Im still waiting for some development company to realize the potential that a MMORPG on a console would have. I hate sitting at my keyboard trying to figure out hot to play the dam thing, i mean whats wrong with a controller and a menu button it works so much easier. one game id love see made into a console MMORPG is the elder scrolls series.

Yeah, navigating through complex menus is so much more interesting on a controller. You think it will be easier to "figure out how to play the damn thing" on a console? Check again, my friend.

EDIT: First sentence was deep-fried with sarcasm.

I have to disagree here, I'm a console gamer myself but I think action wheels and fiddly menus do tend to work better with a mouse.

Dragon Age is a good example... that game's combat was inferior on the console versions as the lack of a keyboard limited the flow.

Also, welcome to the Escapist! May you enjoy your stay.

DC Universe Online will be on the PS3 ...
Sorry 360 people, it seems they think subscriptions and XBLA together costs too much, so it's not going to happen.

First of all, this sounds like it could almost be flame-baiting...

Secondly, that is ludicrous... sure a keyboard is daunting at first. Making the transition from two analogue sticks to WASD and a mouse was quite daunting, but after a week my hand knew where all of my talents were in WoW. That on a controller (Dualshock or 360) would be messed up. Sure the avatar control would be great, but coming to use 1 of 20+ talents would be a pain.

Also have you played Dragon Age: Origins on a console and then played the PC version? Regardless of preference, there is no denying the superiority of the PC edition...

There's one good reason: Because the standard template for MMOs has grown around the keyboard and mouse. A good console MMO will never touch a PC MMO in the same way that a PC MMORPG will never touch a tabletop RPG. Limitations.

Isn't FF11 on the 360 as an MMO?

And most MMOs arent that hard to figure out how to play. They require fewer buttons than you'd find on a controller for the most part and you only need to use more than that if you desire.

You can play the entire game of World of Warcraft with a basic two button/scroll wheel mouse. I wouldnt recommend to do it that way, but you can.

MMO's have been developed for consoles in the past and they didn't work. And new MMO's are being developed for consoles already, so I guess you can keep an eye out for those.

I tried playing WoW wit a controller and found it way too limiting. Sure I could easily run around and do basic abilities against mobs, but working with or against other players was were I was hugely handicapped, and that's the main (best) portion of the game.

Communication in MMOs is also key. Typing in commands, text, looking for items through search bars.

Unless you buy a keyboard for your xbox (which seems redundant) or one of those MSN accessories for the controller, have fun clicking every single character out with the thumbstick.

Even seen the video of a guy playing a frost mage with a plugin steering wheel? lulz, only doable with certain classes and your playstyle is insanely limited.

Also, games that require a lot of small movements, such as WoW, require a large array of buttons, keybinds, macros and modifier buttons if you wish to excel at PvP(I have a friend with around 70 different buttons used for PvP) or raiding, you just can't do that kind of MMO with a controller, it's just not realistic.

And the only reason FF11 was on the 360 was because you could plug in a mouse and keyboard I believe, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Yeah I asked this question not too long ago, with an open minded opinion though.

Its true that controlling an MMORPG with a controller just wouldnt work. If the producers bundled in a controller (A keyboard and mouse for instance) that would obviously work.

The guy's point isn't so much about console MMOs as it is about playing an MMO with a console control pad. Surely if they bundled a keyboard and mouse with WoW 360 he would have the same issue with the controls.

FFXI was a nightmare to do w/ a controller tho....

Why not just have the option to add in a keyboard when you play...

FFXI did it....the IM kit for 360 and the keyboard for the PS3 could work (sorta painfully...)
