I've played both and honestly, i just like Guild Wars better

No monthly fee, so you can come and go as you please. So if you, say, take a few weeks off from playing, you Don't feel as if you're wasting money. Also, in my experience, people take the game with a much more mellow feel, and don't get all uber pissed when something goes wrong

it takes about the same amount of time to get to lvl 70(in WoW) as it does to get to lvl 20(in GW. also, who ever heard or somone grinding to get to lvl 80? we do quests for a reason, faster xp in triplicate. play wow, loads more content

Ok, first off, it can easily take less than 10 hours to hit lvl 20. I've hit lvl 20 in 8 hours with a character from the factions campaign

NONE OF IT IS REALLY GRINDING YOU TWAT
besides WoW is a great social enviroment aswell, content is not the only part, it is only a major part, clearly your "6 months" of "experiance" were poorly invested. YOU ARE A N00B
There's that great social environment right there. I just really don't feel part of the group until someone calls me "twat"

As someone who has played Gw and WoW for play times that are embarrasingly long

WoW is better if you have alot of time, its all about the end game because thats when the social aspect or WoW shines and when you really get to work together with your guild to kill the harder bosses. Dont play WoW if you dont entend to raid because that is what its all about really.

GW is better if you have less time as you can go through 1 mission in the story at a time and generally not feel like your missing out because your not max level yet. However like i've said before about GW is that once you complete the story line (or lines if you get the expansions) the game feels completed and although their are some end game things to do in GW they can be extremely difficult and extremely unforgiving when you spend 3 hours with 12 players and die on the final monster and have to go back to the start :)

As far as pvp goes, GW is alot fairer but feels on a much smalller scale, you fight in teams of 4/8 in arenas. In WoW you go up to 40 a side and it feels much more like an epic battle however that said WoW pvp is horribly unfair depending on your class. Pick a cloth character and dont have masses of gear and your go around getting killed in 4 seconds while your still stunned. That said it can be alot of fun because it can be alot more challanging, also you can pick the overpowered classes if you like and be the one who goes around killing people in 4 seconds when they dont stand a chance.

WoW is more social (in game), more content and more lore if you like the warcraft series, quests are more varied exspecially in lv 70 to 80 content.

GW is cheaper, has more plot, more social if you like getting to know a few number of people better, better single player mode as you can take henchmen, more skill based.

Personally i recommend get Guild wars and once you get bored/decide you dont like it then get WoW, because you can play Guild wars whenever you like after taking 6 months off at a time and then playing it for a week but because of the subcription on WoW only get it if you plan on playing for your moneys worth. Or if your rich get both :D

They're both solid at the least, but WoW is a pretty clear victor here. But then again, they're different game types entirely - GW is like a hybrid between the semi-Massive stuff like Diablo and true Massive games.

Also, methinks people don't know what REAL grinding is like. There's very little of it in WoW if you don't force yourself to.

Well I've played guild wars (Prophecies/Eye of the north) and WoW and the main difference is that guild wars combat is more centered around fighting in big groups. The only problem with Guild wars is you'll hit level 20 so fast and do all the dungeons... and that's about it, there isn't much to do.

I actually got kicked out of an awesome guild because:
we had a plan to go kill the giant boss bone dragon (forget what he's called) for a nice bow
we spend about 20 minutes to get to where he is
AND WE SPEND A HALF HOUR STANDING OUTSIDE KILLING IMPS

i told them i had to go soon multiple times, and that i agreed to come along because we had a plan to actually DO something

i got mad and ranted a bit on how if we plan to do something and one of the 5 people is on a time constraint we shouldn't spend so much time screwing around (i reminded them multiple times, they said "we will in a sec")

somebody else got mad at me and started swearing his guts out (i never swore once during my rant).

The guild leader (who was there at the time) pmed me and said he had to let me go because the guy wanted me gone. Apparently he had a lot of influence on the guild leader. He agreed with me that the guy was unjustified and out of control, but he said he had no choice.

-

Other than that i've had lots of good experiences with GW, and most of the people are really nice. Just, a piece of advice, don't choose Ranger if you plan on doing anything solo.

Sorry to hear about that. Fortunately, I found a really nice guild and didn't have to deal with morons like that. Of course, with anything, you're going to find people who are just there to annoy the piss out of you. The good thing with GW though, is it's instanced. That means no morons waiting around to gank you, which has happened to me a lot in WoW

And I should know the name of that skele dragon...

Edit: i remember now, it's Rotwing; as in, Rotwing's Recurve bow. easily my favorite bow besides Urgoz's longbow

The thing that everyone complains about with WoW is that it takes 'x' amount of time to get to 80 (or 60 or 70 in the past), but then there's that sense of achievement that when you get to the level cap you know that you've got to a point that you've been aiming for since the start.

I encourage everyone to play WoW, but perhaps that's only because I love it so much ;]

Try out the 10 day free trial of WoW, and buy GW (Not expencive), then see how you feel. Make your own mind up.

GW's has a weird way of barriers too. like a slope is too steep, and you can't climb a little ledge. WoW has more freedom in terms of movement and getting around the world, I'll give it that. BUT! Guild Wars, imho, just does everything much better. The visuals, the guild system (notice how your characters stare at rival guild members in towns), things are more simplified for the better. And of course the zero amount of "kill x amount of x creatures" quests, only for you to go to the next town and talk to an NPC who will give you the same mission except the creatures you killed before, are a diffent colour and a few levels stronger..yay!

Guild Wars is the way to go.

I don't like neither of these two games but I'd choose guild wars because you don't pay monthly...although wow is probably a much better game

I play Guild Wars and have played WoW.

I play Guild Wars more because it's free. Its quality has greatly slipped as it added campaigns, especially the Eye of the North expansion.

I'd probably play WoW more but dislike the idea of having to pay for it. Guild Wars has more of an upfront story to its PvE but I love the world aspect of WoW more. WoW also have stuff like clan/guild storage which GW doesn't, a feature I enjoyed as it aids in helping people out. Fishing is something I really enjoyed in WoW and got me into socialising, which I just normally flee from. In Guild Wars isn't hard to do, there are some many "ZOMG" kinds of people, and only go to Shing Jea Monastery if you're still a virgin and/or live at home in your mom's basement.

Guild Wars 2 is in development which seems like it's going to be a clone, to a large degree, of WoW where the big epic 40 or so battles will be able to take place. Guild Wars 2 will probably be more in league with WoW when it's released, and thus why it will probably fail (because it's becoming more like WoW than the original GW).

If you've got the money I'd say play WoW there's just so much more stuff to do and see, if you haven't then GW is more for you, but don't expect much from Guild Wars once you get to a certain point. I bought my friend NF, so he can enjoy dervish as much as I do, and we smashed through 80% of that campaign a little too easily.

You're asking if you want a dumpster full of crap, or an 80,000 lb tractor trailer full of crap.

WoW will probably waste more of your time if you're looking for something to "busy" yourself with.
