hmmm... this post appear to be soaked in petrol... Oh wait, its some flamebait.

OT: Go to both games sites and download the 10 day trial of each. If you don't like a game after ten days, don't buy it.

if your capable of playing WoW to the same extent that i was... b4 my machine broke... damn pr0n... your less than 3 months away from endgame. that aside, do you want to have a social life? if no, go with WoW. but then i'm biased... LoTR just cant seem to do anything to catch my interest and WoW.... is prolly the reason i still have a liver

Neither. I havnt played LOTRO but I know it doesnt have that huge of a playerbase.
Playing from the beginning in Wow now is almost impossible as all raids etc requires you to have the acheivement of killing the last boss in that particular instance.

If you you really want to play a good mmo, then I would wait until September until AION comes out.

LOTRO was fun times, nothing special that you can't also do watching the movie trilogy while chatting to friends on (AIM/MSN/Whatever messenger you use) WoW is more specifically geared towards endgame, just like EQ was. The difference being that there are still folks in the lower brackets. And that raid req is only for farm status raiders, not all of em.
As for AION, I watched a few trailers for it, its the only way I've seen elves look sissier than they previously could've in my imagination, granted Lineage was kinda fun, albiet dead. So who knows. Aion to me just looks like another wow clone as far as classbreak down is concerned. Another grindfest just like the golden recipie that netted Blizzard Entertainment billions.

If by "dying", you mean "steadily increasing its user base", then yes.
I've played both, and I find wow much more enjoyable, although it really gets a lot better in late-game play. LOTRO I found pretty boring. Different abilities weren't different enough to be interesting, the art was uninspired (although the graphics weren't bad), and overall it was a pretty bland experience.

LOTRO will die WAY before WoW. WoW won't die until a better (or easier) MMO comes out that doesn't copy WoW to the letter, and even then it will still keep a huge base. The only good MMO's that didn't copy WoW were SWG (Pre-NGE) and EQ.

That said, neither. Wait for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

WoW has had a better finishing touch thrown over it but LOTRO's graphics, post-level-10 ambience and roleplay atmosphere are so much better than WoWs. It does help that you've played a bit of both, though. I'd say it depends entirely on whether you want to do raids or end-game PvP, in which case you go WoW, or whether the ambience and graphics are more important to you, in which case you go LOTRO.

Either way, if you prefer WoW's fighting system over LOTRO's, you'll definitely want to go with WoW. I played both for a fair bit as well, and the thing that eventually bored me out of LOTRO (aside from having to choose one of the two) was the fact that the combat often seemed slow and tedious when compared to WoW, even when playing what I had guessed to be the most button-spamming intensive class, the Burglar.

I do have to say that WoW is not all endgame speaking of that I have already grinded to 80, is it 3 times now? Anyway, leveling can be quite fun for some people, and the majority of people that raid endgame already have a second 80, or more then that. Anyway, as to the whole

Neither, come over to EvE!

Played WoW since the start, they have dumbed down the game so much and homogenized all the classes, it's just not fun playing anymore. That's my opinion anyway. (My guild actually ran out of raid stuff to do 1 month after WOTLK release (Yes, we did Obsidian +3, a lot of my guildies, including myself, quit after that).

Also, I read somewhere that 8+ of the 11 million subscribers they apparently have are in asia.

Oh, and I can't talk about LOTRO, since I haven't tried it.

The decision heavily depends on your playstyle

If you want to go out with 32 ppl and raid for hours: go WOW. Same goes for high lvl content and a nearly endless amount of content. Grinding must be fun in WOW, everybody is doing it.

LOTRO puts more focus on the characters and storyline which you can live through if you want to. It's better suited for small fellowships but also contains a few quite challenging parts. It's just drop dead gorgeous and if you have read the books you will find hundreds of things in the world of middle earth that will make you smile and giggle.

Playing LOTRO feels more like a journey than a game. Especially if you care to take sidequests.
