Today when i checked my email, I got this:
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/9815/screenshot20111025at707.pnghttp://img804.imageshack.us/img804/6201/screenshot20111025at705.png

I took screenshots of my phone because I don't trust my actual email to block all the potentially malicious content of the original email, I just flagged it as spam.
In the past I've always been able to tell that its some asshole trying to get my account because of stupid spelling mistakes, but this one had me going for about half a second. The *** at the start caught my attention right away.
Obviously I'm not trying to sell my account, I haven't played WoW in about 8 months, lol.

Fellow WoW players, have you had attempts on your account like this?
And fellow Escapists that don't play WoW, have you had "hey, this is totally legit" attempts on your sensitive information? (game related or other)

I'm getting those mails for "my" WOW account and my AION account on rare occasions I got one for that Warhammer Online thing as well.
Interestingly I don't any of those accounts, I don't play MMO's in the first place. So go on close my account then.
So, yeah. Just plain stupid.

You're only just getting these? My email's been getting blitzed by them for months. I quit WoW 2 years ago.

So yeah, it's really goddamn close to what blizzard actually sends. Funny thing is, I can tell when it's fake because I enabled all of blizzards content to be shown on my pc, so I know everything that pops up gray without a picture or something is fake. That said, I get like 3 of these things a fucking day =_= it's really annoying considering i've blocked the sender 5 times over

Oh yeah, I almost got duped by them but I wisened up just in time. They actually took quite a bit of time to construct those emails to be very believeable.

Oh I've been getting them since about 5 months after I started playing WoW some 2 years or so.
They've just been getting better, lol.

That's called "phishing" not hacking.

And yes, I do get those.
My bad.

I had one that looked exactly like yours. And I also opened it with my phone, for some reason it wasn't flagged as spam. But I laughed at it as soon as I saw it, and amazed at the same time. They actually used a background now.

But the last sentences with the "^^" smiley almost made me lose it. It's comedy, man. COMEDY!

A: this has nothing to do with hacking.

B: So its impressive that the phisher kings upgraded to 2005 techniques by adding images to their emails?

Oh well... this is why in this day and age Phishers still exist, because they are patient enough to slow troll for one or two valid hits out of 10,000 attempts. And yes even that many is disappointing.

lol, that was another red flag for me.
I know the GMs are personable, but the emails they send are always really professional.
If I still played WoW, I'd tell a GM about this just for the sake of lulz. I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it.

I'd almost rather get something like this (I've stopped playing MMOs months ago) than the usual slew of cheap-ass 419 attempts I get on my GMail account...

In the past six months, I think I've been accosted by suspicious South-African barristers at least five times. As far as phishing in MMOs is concerned, I really wish there were scambaiter circles for WoW, EVE and the other major players in the field.

Eeyup. Stupidly regularly, too. I get those exact same emails once every 3 or 4 days or so.
It's like they think that if they send enough of them I'll just start believing them. >_>

Oh yeah, They've been trying to tell me I need to log in my WoW account for about a year now.

I've only ever had a trial WoW account.

Unless I've personally requested something via my battlenet account I never even look at emails claiming to be from Blizzard. They never usually feel the need to email me.

It doesn't help their scams when they send US emails to EU addresses either. And to addresses that don't even have a battlenet account.

They are my favorite type of MMO: stringing them along, playing them at their own game for months at a time and trying to get a photo of them standing there holding a sign that says "hello imab igdick."
Oh, how I'd love to do that... Or I'd somehow find a way to convince them that I'll email them my account credentials if they'll only record a two-minute commercial for ANUS laptops for me...

When I was playing WoW I never got one of those. Probably because I used a special email address I created ''just'' for WoW.

Also, dude charge your battery!

Ooh you also got one of the new ones?
I will admit, the first time I got one of the new spam emails I was a little wary, as it took me a bit longer than the first glance to tell it was bogus.

I generally think of it this way, no matter if it's a legit email or not, I always deal with Blizz through b.net, not through an email =3
