Hello. My friend is persuading me to start WoW, and i am going to. I have looked over the game, and I will be playing on the Lightbringer server (as my friend is on that server) and playing as a Human Paladin, because I like the race and class.

Earlier, I started looking at talent trees. I found this one:
http://wow.joystiq.com/2007/02/14/leveling-build-for-a-retribution-paladin/

and this one:
http://www.wowhead.com/talent#sbhZZcbGsdkszfk

Which I am both keen on, but for some reason I cannot find some of the talents on the first link.

What I need is some general tips on how to play WoW efficently, play my class efficently, play my race efficently, and some general tips etc.

(WoW europe btw)

Thank you :)

You don't really need to be worrying about this until at minimum level 25, you can do all the lower dungeons fine, and whilst you're just getting a feel for the class then look up how other people play.

It's much better to follow a guide and know why it works than just following it blindly, that way you can make changes to it that suit you and give you a better dps with your playstyle.

I don't play WoW any more but I'm pretty sure they just completely changed the talent trees, which might be why you can't find some of them.

Okay, thank you for some feedback ;D

They just released a new patch that completely changed all the talent trees, the first link is old now and you can now have 36 talent points, so follow the second talent tree instead. Don't be afraid to change some things too, some skills vary from player to player. I generally use talent trees as a base and then alter them a little to suit my playstyle better.

I have never played a Paladin so I can't give you any tips for your class. In general, don't need everything just because you can. I'm assuming this is your first MMO, so you're gonna be confused at the beginning, don't assume you know everything and be one of them annoying noobs that nobody has any patience for. It's fine if you need help or advice from other players and you're willing to learn, it's the arrogant ones I (and everybody else) can't stand.

Also, don't rush through the game. Some of the areas and quests are really good, you can play the entire game in a city in a dungeon queue, but for a new player it's a lot more fun to go out, explore the world and quest, and maybe do the odd dungeon/battleground every now and then. WoW is a great game before lv80 as well, don't just play to get to lv80.

Ahh that explains.
And don't worry, it's not my first MMO, i've had my fair share, just never got around to WoW :p

Again, thank you so much for the advice :D

Don't read guides until you're 80.
The best thing about WoW was to figure everything out by yourself, it really doesn't matter what you do until you enter end game content. Sure, you might stand out when compared to the people who made their 10th new character, but who cares. Following a guide to the smallest detail isn't something that will entertain you for long.
Join your friend's guild, they should help you if you really need it. Seriously though, WoW is hardly the hardest game on the market.

Also, don't play human paladin.

Okay, i've read about the cataclysm update, and apparantly they overnerfed paladins, so I probably won't be making one now.

Should I stay paladin, or should I go with another class?
(I'm a warrior-like person, but I prefer more than a generic warrior)

Paladins are the most over-played class in the game, aside from Hunters, and Retribution Paladins, despite being "DPS" builds, have always done absolutely abysmal damage.

If you're set on being a Paladin, play either Protection or Holy; Protection is for tanking (and is the super easy mode tank) and Holy is for healing.

I would personally recommend playing a Tauren or Orcish warrior, since A) Horde>Alliance and B) Warriors, while getting reamed in the last patch, are getting some bad-ass abilities come Cataclysm.

Paladin?
Go into Protection.
You can heal, dps and tank in the protection spec, so dungeon's are piss easy.
But seriously, don't go looking for 'guides'. It's a game. Choose whatever looks fun and cool.

Oh, don't worry. A good paladin is still OP. It's just they're not as easy to be as before. Still easier to play than pretty much anything else though.
I don't recommend Warrior's. You'd need some experiance to play them properly and not die the whole time.

Edit: Druid's are pretty fun. A good hybrid class you can play to get a feel for the whole game. I'd recommend them.

If you've already gotten a paladin to 80, it'll take you a while to adjust. But Paladins are still VERY easy to roll (It was my first 80) Or if you want more difficulty but more fun,try a hunter.

The best tip is- have fun. Do not start playing WoW because you feel like you have a responsibility to level up or, eventually, raid. Once you hit that stage, it becomes more of a chore, and do not stick to one class, if you have to- try them all- each classes play style are so dramatically different, it's like playing a different game every time.

If you want a real enjoyable leveling experience, wait for Cata on Dec 7th.

New starting areas look amazing. <3_<3

Limit your time playing. Not for the obvious "WOW drains your social life" Reason either.
If you play too long, you'll lose focus on your goals and become stale.
Play for 2-3 hours max then have a long break, come back fresh.

STARTING PALADIN EHHHH *Leers down*

Off to Elitist Jerks you go my son. http://elitistjerks.com/f76/
They're usually up to date with how to play every class to it's maximum potential.
As a starting paladin I'd recommend leveling as Retribution if only to curb the stress of being a Tank/Healer that can weigh heavily on New players and cause them unnecessary duress from the random players you're grouped with. Damage dealers have less on their plate and an easier time of leveling outside the dungeon scene too.

The funny thing about retribution is, Up until about level 40 or so you're quite a competent tank, given the right amount of armor. Just stick righteous fury on and there isn't a dps below your level who can pull monsters away from you without any serious focus.

If you already have someone leveling with you, Have no fears, charge straight in! WoW is easy to play, a bit trickier to master. But a good time can be had by all. And good luck.

I'm a serious raider though, I get enjoyment out of the 'stressful' more pressing areas of the game play, so that might not be your bag. I would say just go with it, you're in a great place right now because I'm having to completely relearn everything I know with the inclusion of patch 4.0.1. It ripped out core mechanics of class game play and really mixed them around, you get to start fresh and learn from square 1 in a nice pace.

at the risk of sounding like a jerk, i will bet you can find more information that you could ever possibly internalize about WoW Europe, right here:

http://www.wow-europe.com/en/index.xml

that said, one of the best things about WoW (in my experience) was the leveling and figuring things out on your own and deciding what works best for you. that may be different that what is ideal or recommended and what not, but you are the one playing the game. i never bothered with any of the min/maxxing, ideal DPS spell rotations, best gear, end game raiding nonsense (forgive me, but it is nonsense in my opinion) and in the three or so years i played the game, i really enjoyed it.

having an idea as to how you want to spec you character ahead of time is all well and good, and lord knows there are hundreds of builds for every class, but you shouldn't need to really start concerning yourself with that for at least the first 25 or 30 levels.
