I was sure this was going to be that damn annoying chuck norris ad, blizzard is as creative with their ads as they are their game content.
bu-bu-bu-urn-n-n-n

Repetition is key if you want ppl to get hooked and keep playing your mindless money-sucker. oh minor awards every now and then are also necessary.

I don't think ppl have realized that this actress is from Scott Pilgrim and that she is a ***** in the show. Bliz are playing to the assumption that everyone has seen the movie and will thus understand the bitchy ignorance of the person tossing aside her boyfriend for a game that he introduced her to.

If a person doesn't know the character they just consider her a ***** and leave it at that, achieving nothing. Another reason it achieves nothing?

Anyone who gets the reference HAS ALREADY GIVEN UP ON WOW.

Bliz marketing perpetual fail.

Ah, come on, it's not THAT bad... at least it's simple.

Not nearly as annoying as the Mr. T Ad's... i actually chuckled at the "I said diamonds you *black bar*" bit.

It's an advert, seriously. If it was just 30 seconds of a bloke giving his girlfriend a copy of WOW and her going, "cheers, this is quality" it'd be one fucking boring advert.
Agreed. Adverts are about making you remember it.

Back here KFC adverts itself by showing an absent father who makes right by taking his kids out to KFC. Other than that, he does zit.

Yeah, I found this annoying too. I think my favorite was William Shatner's WoW commercial.

My wife laughed her ass of at this commercial. And her being a former WoW God it scared the crap out of me.

Commercials where the women one up the guy is all over the place now days to the point where it can be called sexism. Man can't cook, can't get directions, tries to do something nice but blows up in his face.

But if someone creates on commercial about a blond girl who accidentally throws the car in reverse instead of drive it will get pulled within the first week.

Theses are the times we live in, just have to deal with it.

I'm impartial, the ad doesn't make me mad but it sure as hell wouldn't sell me the game either.

These WoW ads started off fairly entertaining but now... eh.

Also, the thing that probably annoyed me the most about this advert was the terrible make-up job on her face.

It's a reference that's hard to get if you didn't see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World but I think it's supposed to be the same girl from this scene.

It's not exactly one of the better gems for a WoW commercial.
Actually, you won't get it if you don't watch parks and recreation. This is her Ramona character fleshed out x1000000000000

But yea, if you have seen it you should get it, it's still annoying with or without the reference, but more tolerable, and you can understand why she acts the way she is. Seriously, she's the female Keanu Reeves.

I don't think I follow, I wasn't talking about Romona. I was talking about the chick behind the counter. And her character in Parks and Recreation (a show that I honestly had never heard of until now, but thank raptor jesus for google) isn't named Romona either.

I...really can't tell what they're going with with this advert. I mean, is this Blizzard's attempt at "dark humour"? Becausemaybe then they should ook up what that word actually means.

I mean, Blizzards usual humour really is either to recognize. Either they go with an orc screaming "Get to da' choppa!" or an NPC named "Harrison Jones", or they go with tired memes, that they possibly seriously think people still think are funny, like the Chuck Norris one.

But this? Maybe I would understand it more if they hadn't got a fucking robot to do the commercial for them, Samus in Other M has more emotion in her narrative. Yeah, I know that Blizzard are pretty bad at voiceacting, but come on, she wasn't even trying.

I know, the chick behind the counter in the Ramona movie clip you posted is Aubrey Plaza. I didn't mean Ramona herself, sorry that wasn't very clear. If you watch her in Ramona flowers and watch her in Parks and Recreation you'll see that she sounds, acts, and has the same attitude in both. Come to think of it.. she's that way in her stand up routines as well... It's why I called her (Aubrey Plaza) the female version of Keanu Reeves cause she's exactly the same in everything she does. But what I meant was it's a little more tolerable to watch her in this commercial after you've seen her do other stuff cause you get that this is her "thing" or "hook."

The actress is named Aubrey Plaza and she's a regular on Parks and Recreation. She's known for playing bitchy deadpan characters, like the girl in the commercial. They were obviously trying to make a commercial that appealed more to female players of WoW. Meh!

How....is this supposed to make me want to try WoW again? Its just implying that people who play WoW are complete pricks. (Not saying they are, simply saying that this is what the commercial implies.)

P.S. Thank you Nin_Ninja for helping me embed it.

P.P.S. I am not angry, I am not whinging like a thirteen year old boy. I am saying "Wow, isn't this commercial *Dumb*? the hell are they thinking?"
Step 1: Watch Scott Pilgrim
Step 2: Watch the ad again
Step 3: Enjoy the joke now that you get it

So you don't get the joke or find it funny. That doesn't make it dumb, I for one loved it :p

That said, I can totally see how it's off-putting to someone who doesn't get the joke, so yeah, might not be the widest reaching commercial, but I kinda like that about it, means they put how awesome the commercial should be before how wide an audience it's gonna reach, which deserves respect imo. On the flipside, EA's "99 problems and CoD ain't one" may reach millions of 12 year old fanbois, but it's very lame (disclaimer, I love Battlefield and am not into CoD, I just find the ad really lame).

I dunno about anyone else, but her expressionless face and near-emotionless delivery had me thinking this woman's a sociopath. Or just horrible at acting.
In all honesty, that's still a broader emotional range than Megan Fox has ever managed.

OT: As far as this video goes, I think Blizzard is starting to throw every single reference that may strike a chord with a gaming demographic out onto the television. They're hoping that people still remember enough about Scott Pilgrim to laugh at this ad and go "you know, those guys are all right. I'm going to give their game a try." Unfortunately, speaking personally, even after I got the reference I was like "heh...yeah, I get it."

I don't wish to sound like a fanboy, and I'm certainly not, but when you sell a game, you sell a cheeseburgering GAME, with ads that aren't necessarily designed to strike a chord with small groups, but entice everyone to give them a go. Thus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrrVDV_NsNo

So this girl, first is bitchy because her boyfriend won't give her freaking DIAMONDS (In this economy? Seriously?), and then says 'I'll play the game anyway'. Then she casually mentions how her boyfriend says she loves it more than him, she agrees, so she dumps him.

The worst part? The boyfriend probably got it for her because it was something he enjoyed...So he wanted to share his enjoyment with her. She throws it in his face by saying "I WANTED DIAMONDS", and then takes it and plays the game anyway.

Then when she finds she *loves* the game, she doesn't thank her boyfriend for showing it/giving it to her, she tells him to fuck off because she enjoys her game more than being with him.

How....is this supposed to make me want to try WoW again? Its just implying that people who play WoW are complete pricks. (Not saying they are, simply saying that this is what the commercial implies.)

It is a gender role reversal pun. It plays on the concept that girlfriends have given their boyfriends WoW as a gift, which has ended with the boyfriends breaking up to play even more. And as many others are stated, it is clearly meant to be a tongue in cheek commercial. But please, by all means, dont let things like cultural context and subtext stop your completely irrational hatred.
