Wow, Vaas from Far Cry 3 is one of the best villains I've ever seen.

From previews and trailers that I've seen, the villain from Far Cry 3, Vaas Montenegro, is shaping up to be one the most legitimately terrifying villains in history. The way he goes from a calm sociopath discussing his murders to just an all-out psycho screeching at the top of his lungs actually got me to nearly shit my pants the first time I heard him. His dialogue and voice is chilling. What he says in the trailer is particularly haunting: "Do you know what it takes to kill a man?". He's a true monster: his insanity leaves absolutely no "good side" in his personality. He has no qualms about brutally murdering innocents in painful ways. And he's not doing this because he's evil: he's insane. Unpredictable, violent, cruel, sadistic, and most importantly: crazy. But he's smart. He sets traps for Jason and is always one step ahead of him. He actually came extremely close to killing Jason several times, and he does it personally. Taking him down will definitely be a difficult and rewarding task once I get my hands on Far Cry 3. So, does anyone else think that Vaas will be one the best villains in gaming?

The fact that he is a normal man gunning for you and not some hellspawn or alien with 20 laserbeams also helps him become a better villain. I can't wait for December!

He seems like your standard malevolently psychopathic lunatic to me. I agree with TheOneBearded that being human makes him a better villain than a concocted alien, but game villains have been far more unnerving without just leaning in close to your face and screaming.

The ones who are completely in control and aware of the consequences of their evil actions- THOSE are the true monsters to be feared.

It's always the psychos that have the most lasting impact as villains, in my opinion. Practically everyone is familiar with just about every line spoken from Ledger-Joker.

And yeah, Vaas is shaping up to be quite the memorable psycho. Should be interesting to see how it all turns out when the game releases.

Hopefully he'll get more screen time than the Jackal did in Far Cry 2. He's one of my favorite Villains and he gets as much screen time as the Marlon Brando character he's emulating. The Tapes were fucking awesome, though.

Not sure about the first trailer. The way it went from being hogtied and screamed at by a lunatic to lunging on everything doing knife-tricks in 30 seconds clashes badly.

Okay. Based on the first trailer, Vaas is going to be your personal villain. But based on the second trailer, he's more of a figment of your imagination. Either he is representative of the PC's murdered brother or the PC's id coming out and trying to get you to "free the beast" Hell, maybe you ARE Vaas and the gameworld will be conspicuously devoid of mirrors up until you figure that out in a cutscene.

Either way, the voice actor and the animator behind Vaas... those guys are geniuses. Also, the writer behind Vaas is pretty clever too. For example, Vaas goes out of his way to explain that insanity is doing the same thing expecting a different outcome and yet he keeps asking you if he's told you the meaning of insanity and not even in a mocking way; he probably doesn't remember asking you.

Can't wait to get my hands in this game.
