I am feeling generous tonight.

So heres the deal.

The person who writes the best bit of original poetry in this thread, within the next 24 hours, will win a copy of Psychonauts via Steam!

Poetry must be original, and can be about whatever you want.

I will pick the winner before this time tomorrow.

The winner will be announced, and we can exchange steam IDs via PM after the decision is made.

Good Luck!

Cheesecake makes me feel elated.
Moist and light, yet I am left bloated.
Tangy and yellow, I want to bellow.
Cheesecake makes me a glad little fellow.

I dont have steam so cant really complete,
even if a copy of Psychonauts would be quite the treat,
donating free games? the world can be a crazy place,
but dont you worry all the canoes are safe.

I hate steam, but I love poetry. So, this is more or less a middle-ground of fairly reasonable neutrality I suppose. I heard Psychonauts is really good, and I have a Steam account (with only 1 game, since I dislike the system, after all) so I'll take the challenge on.

To what end, doth I collect roses so many and numerous?
Is it but an adopted fixation from early years so amorous?
Aye, a fixation and passion so deep and warm,
no one but I can appreciate it's delicate form.

For a long time of my life, I have scavenged, hunting;
for that perfect rose of many a color, splendor; I am lusting!
I am in need; I crave to satisfy my fixation from early years;
yet my memories so vague, it may all seem, I recollect, as smears.

Nothing short of amazing can revive this delicate hunger I portrait.
I adhere to the many shopkeepers with many a bouquet;
none I have met, hold these multi-colored roses I adore.
So still I am searching, waiting, hoping to replenish the days of yore.

I have many roses; marine, maroon, the darkest white and lightest black;
but none of them will bring those multi-colored roses back.

Okay a poem, eh? Ought to be easy enough... (cough)

Here I sit,
broken hearted,
tried to...|sees "must be original" (cough)|

Okay maybe not that one, well here's one I thought up using the 'simple poem' method because I am not very 'poetic'.

Twists and turns,
a mind must take.
Fraught with trouble,
much at stake.

Focus on the goal,
lest you lose your way.
Never look back,
until the promised day.

Evil reigns,
but good will come.
Light will shine again,
on our tiny slum.

edit: I'm glad to see I am not the laziest 'contestant'

Roses are red, Violets are blue.
I already own Psychonauts, but of this contest I approve.

'Sad face'.

Edit: Please stop taking me seriously.

Some say a poem must have a meter.
they say with one you are a cheater.

Some say rhyming is a must do.
they say a poem without, is goo.

I say, meter is unnecessary.
I say subvert rhyme every time.

If you haven't played Psychonauts, first off, do it now!

Also this particular poem may contain allusions to point in the game that may be construed as spoilers so don't read it if you want to go in with a clear head!

Escaping from the circus dreary,
arrives at camp with eyes all bleary,
with dreams of grandeur filling up his big, fine, goggled head.

No idea of dangers lurking,
faces every challenge smirking,
leaving all the mental patients better in his stead.

A Monster skulks around this corner!
Where is Lily? Raz must warn her!
Brains are being stolen, Dogan's off to watch TV.

Disguised G-Men Road Crew Workers,
Napoleon, Bulls and Opera Lurkers,
Raz confronts them all so that he can set Lily free!

The Final villain is unmasked,
Questions still unanswered, asked,
Answers given freely as the game draws t'ward it's close.

The final challenge now comes looming,
The curve of difficulty DOOMING!
And then it's over, just in time for Raz to say Adios!

In the outskirts of the internet born and raised, on 4chan is where I spent most of my days.
Chilling out, Maxen, relaxed all cool. Outside of /b/ trollen some fool.
When a couple of mods they where up to no good, started maken trouble on the image board.
I posted one little pony and they got scared and said "your moving with your bronies and newfags to funnyjunk"

I felt creative today. :D

The raven, black, drops swiftly, piercing air
A screech, a fallen feather, now gone - dark
Those shadows fly still, rocking gently, but
Now back! And forth! And flitting; brooding - silent.

The thunder strikes! Outlined 'gainst storm-strewn light,
a shadow - descends, and dark 'mongst blazing pyres
of scripts, of scripts, the shadow screeches, but
the flames rage longer, striking skies taut and dark.

Now ash descends 'mongst blanketed town; husk
Of some previous lives, lost, shattered like glass
None tread these shaded streets. Now thick with guilt
and shards of broken breath, shaded by clouds,
innumerable and vast.

Just a little something I wrote :p

I stand inside the tallest tower
My vantage point; my source of power
A magic crossbow in my hand
With which I shall protect the land.

The enemy came from the North
A horde of warriors charge forth
With swords and bodies armor-bound
To tear my homeland to the ground.

The last wave came three days ago
Put our army to the sword and bow
Of them all, only I remain
The last soldier in the domain.

Despite this, I am not alone
In this tower I now call home
Refugees from across the land
Whose lives are guarded by my hand.

Inside this tower, I stand guard
You wish to invade it? You'll get scarred
I've sworn an oath to slay all who dare it
My magic crossbow allows me to bear it.

The crossbow I hold in my hand
Contains secrets from the ancient land
When a bolt is shot, another
Arrow appears to replace its brother.

They send man after man to wear me out
But whoever's in charge is surely a lout
Day after day, my arrows fly true
To give these soldiers what they're due.

The invaders know we're holed up here
But I have nothing to fear
The King's main force is on its way
To rout the enemy, to save the day.

What I must do is hold the line
With nerves of steel; with courage divine
Until the King's main force is here
To remove these fiends from the land I hold dear.

But if the worst should happen to me
Should the Reaper come to claim me
I implore you, reader, let it be known
That during those days, my true self was shown.

They called me a scoundrel, they called me a knave
The last word they'd use to describe me was brave.
But when I saw those civillians, I knew
Right then and there what I had to do.

Not a single greedy thought was in my mind
I'd left my fear and doubts behind
Even if all I had was a rusty steak knife,
I'd protect these people with my life.

Remember me, but not as a coward
The old me is gone, a better me has flowered.
My only wish is that in one century
They still tell the tale of Lieutenant McGee

This poem was found in the possession of Lieutenant Wallace McGee, who spent the last four days of his life defending Gelrenn Keep from the Northern Empire during the Great Purge, which was held over two centuries ago. Even today, he is revered throughout history as a paragon of bravery, stalwartness and the willingness to lay down one?s life to protect King and country. May the yarn that he spun last throughout all of history.

Does free verse count?

Looking out the window, rain pattering against the glass
A dismal day, par for the course by the lake
Would that I could, I would call off today
But alas, I am unable to do so
The carts I push are what grant me gold
But in truth, I dislike outside when it rains
I wish I could stay in my room today
Caring for naught...except Skyrim.

I hope that doesn't suck too much.

Hm... Have never tried writing a poem so here is a poem i guess.

@op:Is this helping you with some assigment? as this is genious if so, using the talent of the escapist for a £5 game i salute you sir hehe

Crabs.

As i sit and ponder
At this marvelous wonder

I cannot think of a time
When i was able to rhyme

So i'll write something dirty
About being thirty

I sit scrape and scratch
At my Sweaty Ball sack

This is quite bad
As im writing about crabs

These damn little critters
Leave me so bitter

That nasty old whore
Has left me all sore

I should spray her with mace
Before she is thrown into the furnace.
