and haven't seen a THQ game since Titan Quest. Are they still around?
yup, they seem (near as i've been able to tell) more publisher-y, DarkSiders for one the Warhammer 40K games are also shipped under THQ, which is about as much as i care to look up from them, as its the games from them i have (and Titan Quest, have that to)

I really don't get all the hate EA gets these days when Activision is obviously still around. EA for the last years have at least been trying to make ammends, publish new IPs and not be a dick. Activision fucking revels on it.

Wow, EA is fucked. The one time they try and do something good (publishing an indie game) everyone bitches and moans and generally carries on. They might as well be assholes now, because it makes more money and people complain anyway.

Boohoo, you got an extra REALLY GOOD GAME that isn't truly an indie title. I only ever get the bundles to support charities, literally none of my money goes to the developers.

I can understand that you might be a little ticked when you found out that a small percentage of your overall bill is going to a company that certainly has plenty of money, but can't you be satisfied that you did a nice thing and got some great games out of it?

Heh, don't give them ideas. Considering this thread, that'd probably sound logical to them :p

"Developed by Klei Entertainment
Published by Electronic Arts"

Not only is it an indie game through and through, but this is EA being nice for once.

Screw being unpleaseable and unreasonable, if EA are going to play nice with the Indies, then I will play nice with EA.

It IS logical. And gamers are to blame for fulfilling the logical conclusion.

See, that's the thing... I wouldn't say "gamers" are. I'm definitely a gamer and I sure as shit don't regret buying anything that EA has put...

Wait a second...

Hm, yup. Brutal Legend was published by EA.

Ok, I only regret buying ONE game that they've put out. Yeah, they've been stupid assholes in the past, and still sometimes are, but the same can be said of some of my best friends.

Way I see it, the people that go BLARGLEFLARGLE EA IS EVIL should be categorized differently than gamers that just want to game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Humble Indie Bundle a series of independently developed games with no DRM and the proceeds going to charity? If so, who gives a flying fuck about the publisher? They're doing good work, damnit!

BF 1942 is probably my favorite shooter of all time, published by EA. I guess it might have been a copy of another game? but I never played that "other" game, so i don't really care.

Still, the entire point of the HIB is to push indie games, to promote new ideas and new games. Shank isn't indie (It doesn't matter how small the dev house is, if they have big publisher money behind it, as explained elsewhere) and it's not all that new of an idea, either.

I wouldn't say I'm overreacting. I'm not frothing over it, but I don't think 'annoyance' is quite enough of a reaction to what is essentially being lied to. If I just wanted games for cheap, I could go to GoG instead.
Overreacting?

No, it's perfectly reasonable for an individual to buy game consoles, computer products, and consumer goods which are invariably linked (either directly, or by proxy) to what amounts to slave labor in china and begrudgingly accept that it's just life (which everyone on this site does by the fact that they are using a computer), but then act like someone is out to screw them the second that someone decides to not only help give publicity and a means of distribution to various small developers and goes out of it's way to make sure that the process entails as little hassle towards the consumer as possible and decides not to refuse someone willing to release their game DMR free on both Mac, PC, and Linux because they had support from larger publisher in the past. Perfectly reasonable.

Do not get into the ethics of the modern world. They are not pretty.

Right, OP, I'd say this warrants a mention:

EA published Shank.

Published.

People who purchase HIBs choose if their money goes to charity, the developer, or a HIB tip.

See what I'm getting at here?

I also think EA is fine. Of course, there's exceptions to everything, and on this forum at least, we are the exception.

EDIT: Except on this thread, apparently...

the fact that they have put "humble" on thease things pisses me off

it comes across as pretentious
<quote=dictionary.com>3. low in rank, importance, status, quality, etc.; lowly: of humble origin; a humble home.

5. low in height, level, etc.; small in size: a humble member of the galaxy.

So, in fact, it means the exact opposite. And, pre-Humble-Bundle-inclusion, it's perfectly accurate for most of these games (except for low quality).

Don't go looking for flaws that aren't there.

You're right getting backed by a corporation with lots of money and helping you get your game to market is terrible.

I don't see how a EA logo makes everything bad... Or is it just because they are a big corporation? Judge the game by quality, not who published it.

this is just a weird little thing that irks me personally, obviously its got nothing to do with the actual game/games

its like "the indie bundle" oh ok then this seems cool

"the humble indie bundle" "ooohhhh loook at US...look how GREAT our games must be compared to them evil publishers..buying this shows how "high brow" your tastes in games is"

is this based on any logic or rational thourght? nope...its just me

I think it's dumb to write off a game based on a company that's involved. Judge the game on its own merits, not those of the distributor.

They were published by EA through EA Partners(I believe that is what the program is called?) They take their finished game to EA which they will take care of all publishing issues for a small fee. Indie through and though, pull the hipster glasses out of your ass.

I know, some people baffle me. In the case of Shank, the developer made two successful self published indie games in the past, and thus gained the industry credentials to to sign on with a major publisher. This should be a good thing! A small developer getting recognized and rewarded for producing quality content. I don't get these people that assume everyone at the developer immediately loses their soul the second they sign a publishing deal. How dare they try to make money, real indie developers are broke and homeless.
Way to miss the point. They signed up with a major publisher, so they're not an indie developer anymore. Which is all well and good for them. They made it big. But the HIB is supposed to be for getting exposure to the indie devs and doing some good (Child's Play). It was a "community" type deal, and EA has made it abundantly clear that they're not interested in "community." They want cash. Good for them.

I didn't buy it for the cheap games. $20 would have bought me 6 better games at GoG.
