My Finnish perspective: After a bunch of relatively cool and rainy summers I'm glad we got a hot one for a change. Also because 2010 was hotter, climate change isn't real.

Also I am perfectly aware this isn't a good thing objectively. I just personally enjoy it, because I'm spending my summer worry free in a lakeside summer house with a laptop and unlimited mobile data to boot.

When it gets like this, I spend as much time in the basement as possible, cliches about basement dwellers be damned.

Too hot and too much fucking sun for months on end with zero reprieve only to culminate in sweltering hot temperatures above 35 celcius. Earth is so dry that trees are forced into early fall, the grass turned yellow and the asphalt on the roads is starting to detach. Now the disgusting heat turned into a darkened yellow sky with lightning and thunder but no rain. To top it off, tomorrow night there will be a blood moon. The only thing missing is The One Reborn dripping out of it.

WTF is going on? Btw I live in the Netherlands and never before have I experienced the weather to be this nightmarish. Ugh, and I already fucking hate summer. Can't stand the hellish sun and heat.

edit: sorry meant to post this in off-topic.
ALL my friends in the Netherlands sound just like you... They cant sleep because it is too hot and I think it is making them all go out of their minds. When I tell them what the weather is like here in Texas though they wonder how anyone can possibly survive here.

Since most you guys don't have air conditioning there here are some tips that may help you survive your hot spell:
Strong fan inside a duvet cover to create a cool space:

Put your shirts and sheets in Freezer before using:

Make a redneck air conditioner by putting ice in front of a fan to blow cool air on you:

I hope that helps some!

Look on the bright side. You're getting that third world experience completely for free, from the safety of your own country.

Good ol' climate change, best get used to it. (It's really, really shitty)

Heheh..the ice and fan sounds like a good one. Thanks for sharing.

True though, we aren't used to excessive sun and heat. Usually it's maybe 3 or 4 hot days followed by weeks of rainy or cloudy with sometimes sun and the temperature being warm but not too hot. This year though it's been like 3 or 4 months of nothing but incessant heat, sun, extreme humidity that takes your breath away and neverending drought. Making this one of or the dryest and hottest summer in recorded history.

It's true that houses here aren't equipped with AC's. Usually by the time I want to buy one the portable ones are out of stock and when they are back in stock it's usually near fall season again *sigh*. I did have one in the past but it gave me dry eyes and a dry throat and I couldn't really play a game or watch a movie with the sound it made of a starting jet engine. The thing took a lot of space and I sold it after years of mild summers in which I barely used it but now I wish I never did. :( And ofcourse it only cools just one room and the window still has to be open to put the tube with the exhaust out. Those built into the ceiling are ofcourse the superior AC's but they are really expensive.

I am far too ghostly white for this weather, any potential tan turns into yet more freckles. Curses. This body only half adapts. Now I freeze all drinks. Including alcoholic ones. Especially alcoholic ones. Am thinking of inventing some clothing made entirely of icepacks. Maybe buy up some from the local store and duc-tape them around the thighs and stomach. No one has to know of my temperature cowardice. (Apart from anyone who reads this). But I will frown oh ever so disapprovingly at every car driver I see from now on. The larger the car, the more intense and angular my frown. Ho yes, the disgruntled brow of this shimmering ice ghost will haunt them relentlessly for the brief second or two as they pass completely unaware.
A roof in this area has already melted. Not sure what poor material it must have been made of, evidently the owner did not apply enough icepacks.

It's not all bad.

The heatwave in Ireland has helped archaeologists discover previously unknown sites.

Fuckin' warm though.

It's unseasonably nice and warm here, has been for the last couple of days and looks set to continue. Which is odd since it's just after mid winter here, but not complaining.
