So I had my computer on last night and I was watching Mock the Week (a british comedy show) on the television when I turned to my computer and saw none other than the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (or so I thought) but after having a little freak out I turned it back on and it asked me how I wanted to start windows (uh oh, I thought) but then it just turned on normally and nothing seemed to change. I did a virus scan and theres nothing bad on my computer. Does anyone know what happened or has this happened to them?

No, that seems quite normal. Normal start-up.

Or at least, that is the case for my old stationary computer. BTW, is it old and burdened with millions of vanity files?

This actually has happened to me once or twice. No idea what causes it. Since you said that virus scan turned up negative I would say you're fine. Still, exercise caution.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. I was watching a video on youtube, the screen froze and it drew out the last sound out for about 10 seconds and then the blue screen popped up. It was there a minute or so and dissapeared, then it started the youtube video again.

Needless to say, my face was like O_O for a few minutes.

So it blue screened and DIDN'T restart? That's really weird.

I've had them happen once or twice restart fine.
The most likely cause in this case would be driver error. I know I was having driver issues when it happened to me. Nothing really to worry about, if it hasn't happened again don't stress but maybe check for new drivers.

Was it the Critical error BSoD or was it 'performing memory dump' BSoD? The later isn't as harmful as the former.
I honestly can't say because I was in my bed watching telly and by the time I got over there my computer was off, I don't think I was in the right mental state to read it anyway, blue screen and white writing scared the sh** out of me.

Is the BSoD really that frightening? It's been a while, but I thought it just restarted your PC. The usual reaction to which to is mutter "Useless bag of manatee cunts" at it and let it have it's little moment. I don't think my computer restarting has ever scared the shit out of me...

My computer gets in these moods sometimes (usually after I move it) where it blue-screens every start-up. It's highly annoying, but not so worrisome. (My computer is literally ten years old after all.)

Depends on your experience with computers. For me, yes, its terrifying.
Especially when you're a toddler, and your Win 3.1 BSoD's on you.
It gave me nighmares...

My computer has had around 50 of the bloody things, but it still works. Most of the time anyway. If it is anything like mine you should be fine, as said, I have gone through more than I care to remember.
Bluescreens don't seem to damage my computer's fighting spirit :D Or the thing doesn't feel pain...

saw none other than the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (or so I thought)
You indicate that it was not what you thought. So what was it, if it was not?

but after having a little freak out
Why?

I turned it back on and it asked me how I wanted to start windows (uh oh, I thought)
Again, why? Have I entered a bizarro world where this is not normal?

but then it just turned on normally and nothing seemed to change.
What does it usually do? Turn pink?

I did a virus scan and theres nothing bad on my computer.
Why would there be?

Does anyone know what happened or has this happened to them?
Sounds like your computer blue screened to me. Every has this happen to them.
WTF, is this your first computer or something?

This is extremely common, and probably indicates a driver issue or an overheated machine. Make sure all your video drivers are updated.
