I can understand a fan's doubts about the Silent Hill series, it seems like ever since 'The Room' it's been hard to be enthusiastic about the series that scared us so. I'll admit it may just be me and partly because I've yet to play Origins, but parts of 4 almost felt like a sign that the developers stopped caring about what made the series so lovable. Look at what they presented and tell me that's what made any Silent Hill good:
* A 90% weak cast of characters
* Permanent 2D controls
* A protagonist with less charisma and depth than a tree stump
* Omission of atmospheric lighting effects
* A slew of blatant low budget sound effects
* Puzzles that would've embarrassed Carrier
* Memos containing a maximum of three sentences containing minor/reiterated information
* Ghostly enemies that prove more annoying and yawn inducing than frightening
* A villain with a completely re-written background and laughable appearance and attacks
* A game named after the town that doesn't actually LITERALLY go there without it being a part of someone else's head
* An original starting premise that falls into plot twists and monsters copied and pasted from movies to the point where the glue is still fresh
Seriously, I can't blame anyone for their lack of enthusiasm and I'm left with this feeling of floating around waiting to see what'll happen next. I never really wanted Silent Hill to fall into another developer's hands, but it's hard to conceptualize the series back in their hands as it should be.
