Alright, then.

It's just a given I would go in defensive mode, this being a predominantly PC gaming site and me being a predominantly console gamer.

That was a bit of an overreaction.
Yeah, the first logical conclusion when I hear that a game made by a company known for very high quality graphics has worse graphics than MW2 I think, "maybe they've reached the limit?" before "I bet Crytek half-assed it on one console".

I liked the first two Crysis but was going to pass on this one since I didn't love the first two and I have enough games right now. Wondering OP, what shooters do you like?

It has better gameplay than Call of Duty. About your graphics complaint... a game made for a console has the same limited graphics as another game made for a console? Surprise surprise. Maybe PS3/360 can't handle graphics past MW2 quality, hmm?
See Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Killzone 2/3, etc..

Crytek boasted about being the best and pushing consoles to their limits but the dman game doesn't even look that much better than MW2

Yes, me and journythroughhell have already had this discussion. Oh well, at least the consoles now get to know what it's like to have a horrible port! Sarcasm, everyone loses in this situation.

Time to get to downloading Crysis 2 demo I guess. The multiplayer demo trailer got me pumped.

Modern Warfare 2 is the low standard for graphics now? What? Not even Black Ops, a game that looks far worse, Modern Warfare 2?!

Will this site never cease to find empty reasons to bash the game?!

OT: I thought it was a laggy, generic mess with mostly broken main mechanics, terribly floaty controls mixed with the incredibly low health amount of the CoD games. That does not mix.

The controls in CoD are some of the most precise in today's shooters. Crysis 2 is floaty and slow. You don't mix Killzone with CoD and expect them to match perfectly.

But, at the same time, what? No hitmarkers?

I'm pretty fucking sure there were some.

Uncharted 2. Killzone 3. Heavy Rain. Final Fantasy XIII. Mass Effect 2. The hell are you talking about?

The argument "oh, they dumbed it all down for the console peasant" should not fly here.
I'm not a console gamer so I just threw that out as a suggestion. Hence the question mark. Not sure why you're being so overly defensive about this.

Anyhow, since the majority of people here seem to hate it I'll have to give it a try; I generally have the opposite opinion of most people on this site. (IE: I think minecraft is stupid.)
I also think Minecraft is stupid, and from what I've read from the 360/PC crowd beforehand, the game was awesome. Boy was I surprised. -____-

I always felt Crysis/Warhead had decent gameplay with gorgeous environments, an interesting enough story, and some fun physics gimmicks. More worthy of my $50 than any CoD clones, in my opinion. Honestly, why play a 100% linear shooter, set in the desert, when you can run around a jungle island with the illusion of freedom, and kill people with chickens?

I can't believe anyone has described the gameplay of Crysis as "awesome". It's certainly better than Call of Duty's, but it still feels like Call of Duty.

Unless they've changed up the controls / how the engine handles aiming I don't think bad controls will be a problem. Maybe the "floaty" sensation you're getting is that you have inertia, similar to TF2. You don't stop on a dime like in Call of Duty.

Oh I know all about floaty. I play KZ2 and 3 a lot. Its not that that I find bad, its the fact that you don't really know if you are hitting anyone and you can't tell if you shot enough bullets to kill a guy either. Its just spray until you see 100+ on your screen.

In all the other shooters I've played (Halo, COD, KZ, Resistance 2) you can sort of 'tell' you've killed a guy before they even drop and instinctively reload. Not in this game, I've played it for 2 and a half hours and killing someone still feels like it happened randomly.

Fixed.
YOU'RE BOTH WRONG! The 360 actually runs better than the PS3. It should read PC>360>PS3
Don't start a fanboy war. But the PS3 has 'prettier' games than the 360
I thought we were talking specifically Crysis 2. And the PS3 has few "prettier games." Statistically, most games look better on 360.

I've never heard of anyone having to wait 45 minutes. My guess would be that this is more than slight exaggeration or you have some tremendous network issues.

I haven't seen much of the PS3 graphics, but I can't imagine it's much worse. There'd be no reason for it to be given that the PS3 has more graphical power than the 360. If the demo is having problems, I imagine they'll be fixed in the final game.

-The gunplay is HORRIBLE. There are no hitmarkers so everyone just sprays the guns randomly until someone dies. You don't even know when you are hitting someone. Its so frustrating watching a killcam of some guy spraying the gun around in a circle then all of a sudden the killcam goes into slowmo and ONE GODDAMN bullet headshots you.
Wait, so you want a hitmarker? Or you want there to be no headshots? Or you want the guns to be more accurate? Or you want the guns to be less accurate so spraying is harder? I'm confused. Personally, I detest hitmarkers - you don't need an indication of when you hit someone, the indication is how incredibly better you'll do firing in bursts (use less ammo, fire tighter, kill enemies faster). If other people are spraying, that's GOOD for you, they'll tend to do a lot worse.
IamSofaKingRaw said:
-The maps are HORRIBLE.
The maps I've played on have been among the best-designed in any FPS I've played. The vertical dimension is much more pronounced and, given your better ability to nagivate that dimension with higher jumping, faster movement, and easy ledge-grabbing, it actually feels like a nice way to add some real strategy to deciding where to engage enemies from on the map.
IamSofaKingRaw said:
-All the guns feel the same. Th SCAR, and that LMG kill with the same amount of bullets
They handle quite differently. Different accuracy, different rate of fire, different spread.

-The game plays like Halo mixed with COD (not in a good way). COD with the terrible spraying gunplay and killstreaks, and Halo with the armor and health. Did I mention how terrible the gunplay is?
I think this would count as an "opinion". I really enjoyed the mix. It has many of the features from realistic shooters that I've come to like (nearly obligatory ironsighting for example) and mixes it with other elements to speed the game up (faster movement, more vertical levels) and add some variety (cloak for instance) while helping eliminate some of the problems (armor mode to make fights in the open last a bit longer).

-Hit Detection is BAD. I've watched killcams of people shooting the air next to me then I'd just drop dead, wtf?
I suspect that this might be due to your ping or to the graphics themselves. From a programming perspective, it's incredibly more likely that hit detection is fine, but the tracers you're seeing are lagged or just slightly inaccurate. Also, I've never really thought to look, but I doubt every bullit leaves a tracer, so it's very possible that you're just happening to see bullets that missed with tracers while the bullets that hit happened not to have tracers.
IamSofaKingRaw said:
-The thing I hate the most though is that when you respawn for some **** reason you can't move and have to sort of jump around before the game will allow you to move forward. (IDK maybe its just for me but that pisses me off.)
As I said, I haven't really played the PS3 version, but I haven't heard of this problem before and it definitely doesn't show up in the PC demo. That sounds like it would be really fucking annoying though.

I thought the graphics were marvelous.

And I've never been a fan of Crysis's gameplay style, although it does look well constructed outside the First-Person perspective. I'm very curious how the game would fare with a Third-Person mode mod.

Most of the stuff he said seemed mostly like lag or console problems rather than problems with the game itself. For example, I found a match in less than five minutes and I could shoot just fine without spraying everywhere. My biggest issue was that the gameplay was too much just like MW2 with 20 foot jumps and super-strength, so I wouldn't buy it. As I said though if he could tell me the game he's comparing this to I'd Love to play it.

No hit markers? What kind of crazy game is this without a hud to tell you you're hitting someone?

Sarcasm aside, you must realise hit markers are a relatively recent invention and older shooters did fine without them.

Well to be fair, I downloaded the demo about an hour after it released so it was probably because no one had it yet.

Yeah THE GRAPHICS ARE WORSE than the 360s.

I want to know when I'm hitting someone. Whether by showing blood splattering out of the guy I'm shooting or by showing hitmarkers. As it is, everyone (or the people I've played against) all spray the gun every where because no one knows whether or not they are actually hitting you or not. I've tried the crouching, burst fore tactic (I play KZ a lot, thats basically the only way to kill anything in KZ) but still, I have no idea if the guy should die with my next burst or if I even hit him.

You may be right about not every bullet not leaving a tracer on the killcam, but when you watch your killer SHOOTING at the space you are not occupying and getting a kill for it, its really frustrating

I don't really like the maps, especially the Pier 1 one. People respawn in random places so you never really have a sense of where the enemies are coming from.

I think the PC version may be better (Crytek are mainly PC devs aren't they) but the PS3 version absolutely made me not even consider buying this game new. Rent or used copy for me (if the SP is any good)

Wow. I'm almost prepared to call trolling on this one. I haven't played any console versions though so I can't say. I think the PC version looks great and I actually loved the multiplayer demo. I really didn't expect that considering I ABSOLUTELY HATE multiplayer in FPS games. I dunno, maybe the suit calls to me.

Wait, I didn't even know what a hit marker is, so I googled it, and people are complaining that that doesn't exist? I've never played a game with one apart from MW2, and been doing just fine.

On the PS3? Really, go on N4G and read the comments on the Crysis 2 for PS3 demo. LOTS of people were waiting for a longass time like me.

By spraying I meant moments where players would start running at high speed while you shoot at them (or you yourself try running while someone shoots at you) forcing the guy shooting try to track your movements while shooting, with you running around so fast the guy has to spray his gun everywhere just to hit you. Then sometimes they get one lucky bullet come and hit you in the face.

lol I play KZ3 and Resistance 2. I have Black Ops but I rarely open the case. I also wanted to try something new in Crysis 2 but was hugely disappointed with the gameplay.

Also please answer, were you playing on the PS3? Even after a few hours (so more people could get the demo) it still took a long ass time to find a game.

Well, it is near literally Call of Halo. It plays like CoD, almost button for button, but has alot of style like Halo, the more sci-fi stuff.
It also stands as an example of why people who rag on the 360's graphics have little bases and no soul. It looks amazing on the 360, and I dont know why people are still unhappy about that stuff. If you care that much, you are not a gamer. You just are not. Farmville players are 100 times truer gamers than you (graphic whores) to me.

Its a fairly standard FPS, but it has some uniqueness that was pretty cool, like the various gadgets and the charge meter thing.

Thats pretty much my view on it. I don't geyt all the praise and hype for it from the PC and 360 crowd (it probably is more fun on the PC though maybe) but to me its just average, all the talk from Crytek claiming it to be the graphic king was bullshit. (At least on the PS3 side.)

I did like the armor abilities though...
