X-2 is just great.

If you're ten and a girl.
Hooray, I'm a ten-year-old girl!

...Or I might just not be an insecure teenager anymore.
Insecurity has nothing to do with the intense vomiting due to seeing FFX reduced (and I wasn't even a a huge fan of X) to giggling, airheaded, teen-princess popstar story, with a world where high tension between different ideological groups at its worst results in horrible, horrible yelling, "dullwings" level of jokes and Charlies Angels esque (only more cheesy) atmosphere.

Not only did it turn everything that was at the core of X not only upside down, but also into something uglier than sin... Which here means something similar to really bright pink.

I prefer X-2 over X, actually.

Call me crazy, but I enjoyed the up-beat story (and its turn for the darker), I loved a lot of the j-poppy music, the job system was pleasant, and it had the best incarnation of the ATB battle system ever.
I didn't much care for the story, but I agree with you on the battle system. I'd say it's my favorite one in any FF game to date. Hopefully 13 will impress even more.

Final Fantasy games do NOT have direct sequels! It makes my head hurt.

It had a nice story though, to be honest, and Yuna was badass with the twin pistols.

X-2 killed of Jean Grey, only to be later brought back as a mediocre Dark Phoenix killing of loads of classic X-Men in X-3! It was truly the beginning of the movies' decline. Oh, wait, wrong X-2. Meh, don't care, nice combat system and JRPG plots are so standardized that it really doesn't matter how well they are executed.

The gameplay was nice... Really nice.
Refurbishing the whole 'jobs'-concept, it was a welcome feat, even though the term 'dress spheres' made me gag.
Seriously, you're fighting a battle, woman, you're not posing on a FUCKING catwalk!

There are a lot of missions. The main quest in combination with sidequests and various new dungeons to crawl in, easily offered up to 100 hours of gameplay. If it could hold you attention for so long, that is...

And the graphics were still nice... although it was just copy/past from FF X.
Shameless rehash of environments, spells and monsters, you know...

So far, the game does't really sound like it's bad does it?
But here's the blow:

The music sucked. It was even worse than FF X for cryin' out loud! Also: worst way to spend your CG-footage EVER.

No summons. Yeah, that's 'not done' alright... Especially since FF X introduced the option to actually control your aeons. I remember being totally pumped to find out which new aeons they had put in. Imagine my huge dissapointment when I finally played the game...

Last but not least: the plot. I mean, the entire story just got me facepalming so hard, i thought my freakin' head was gonna bleed! And I personally think that a decent plot/story is still the cornerstone of a good jRPG...

Well the story (more specifically the Perfect Ending) pissed all over the feelings I had at the end of FFX. I actually preferred the non-Perfect Ending for FFX2 personally, but I get a feeling the Perfect Ending is 'canon' and that pisses me off.

Other than that, a little too much 'girl power' at times. Sorry, I can handle it in small doses but when it vomits it into my lap I have a bit of an issue with it. The dialogue was cheesy at best and ear rape at worst. Voices were so-so but some of the attempts at humour were so cringeworthy I shuddered slightly.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed the battle system, the Garment Grids, the dress spheres and whatnot and thought they worked very well together. I truly enjoyed FFX-2's combat. The graphics were pretty, as expected and most of the costumes (complete with James Bond-esque silhouette transformations) were well designed and aesthetically well thought out.

If they'd had a less terrible 'canon' story and less cringeworthy writer I don't think I'd have nearly as much 'enmity' for FFX-2 as I do have.

It was OK. I liked it. Shame Final Fantasy X-3 never came out....honestly they were going to do one for 'Rikku's story' that was mentioned in a game cutscene, but got dropped.

Though I played it and beat it as fast as I could without trying any side quests. The reason I didn't like it is the following:

- Yuna's huge personality change
- The fact that it continued a more serious game, and turned it into something that would be considered very childish (BECAUSE IT IS NOW).
- Brother... I think he is a key factor for making the game bad too.
- LeBlanc...
- And a lot more!

I considered this game to be a fanfic because of its huge mood swing, from FFX!
Plus I did not want to believe that Square had helped in this abomination!

I didn't like the story percentage thing, since I needed a guide to get 100%. But combat was good and I liked switching classes during battle. It was a nice fan-fare finale to FFX's story, if you get the 100% ending.

Good things- female main character for the first time in the series, cool replacement for the aeons...and that's about it. OH- the scene where you save Cid's ass from the robotic thingy is pretty funny too.

Bad things- I didn't feel like I'd just saved all of existance when I beat the game, combat system was lame, Yuna was annoying, Rikku's brother was annoying.

The worst crime (and it is a crime) committed by X and X-2, however, is that you cannot fly the airship freely. That, in my mind, renders it a non-Final Fantasy game. I spent an hour on FFX trying to figure out what the hell I was doing that prevented me from flying the airship. As it turns out, what I'd done wrong was bought the game.

Fair and balanced- Bofus.
