I adored XCOM:EW, but being on console I'm miffed I won't be able to damn well play the new one... unless it gets a late port?

If I do get my hands on it, I hope the level of soldier customisation is as - or more - thorough as EW, because that was one of my favourite elements, i.e. how oddly attached you got to certain soldiers.

That's what I was thinking was going to happen.
The term 'exclusive' has been applied to a lot of things over the past couple of years that eventually found their way to other platforms.
Seemingly exclusive titles eventually admitted as being 'timed' exclusives or some other terminology.

I guess saying this instead of 'debut' means they're not caught committed to another release if everything goes horribly wrong.
Not that I think it will, but devs and whoever orchestrates the pr side of things for them seem to be a cautious breed at the best of times.

True, and perhaps a metric of interest in console versions will be the deciding factor - I gather both new consoles are equally easy to code for this time, so hopefully that's in a ports favour.

And whilst 'system exclusive' definitely is a term that usually needs a whole bunch of caveats these days, XCOM 2's a little different, in that they've made a point of mentioning mods. It being PC focused thus makes sense.

Still, I hope they see XB1 and PS4 versions as an opportunity, because I can't see any other product like it on those systems right now. XCOM:EW worked like a dream on console in terms of a UI, so they've proven they can create great content across systems.

Glee!

This will be a must buy. I still play classic X-COM on my laptop from time to time. Played the absolute shit out of the remake. Argh, six more months to wait??

I am really excited about their talk of stealth mechanics and ambushes and being able to take the first shot. It always pissed me off in XCOM when I tried things like blowing out a wall because I knew the aliens were on the other side to attack them, and the aliens got a free move to get nice and safe behind cover...

Really even in the first game a small elite force of soldiers against an enemy thats better armed and more numerous, why would they not try to ambush the enemy at every chance? It always annoyed me that ambushes didnt really work.
Stealth assaults were somewhat viable late game in EW, thanks to stealth suits and grenades, but it was definitely under-baked, and by the point stealth becomes viable you can steam roll the aliens anyway. The whole alien encounter thing was somewhat bizarre, though I guess their AI wasn't programmed to move around the map properly. Hopefully in this one they are.
Sorta I guess, and having that Within genetic mod to sense biological a through walls could help you catch a couple of dudes in an explosion sometimes., but yeah by the time you get invisibility you've pretty much won. When I get to that point I usually call the game a win and don't bother with the tedious grind to get the final mission. It sorta seems like it was more designed to be about stealth assaults with the way with the tense 'where are the aliens' feel and being able to hear them. But then they gave them the scatter and screwed it.
