[HEADING=1]X-Com: Fight for Earth[/HEADING]

The ground trembled as the Skyhawk touched down, Commander Kain, accompanied by his team sprinted out the second the doors opened and the ramp descended.

They were being sent to investigate a downed UFO, the Commander himself had come along out of interest because this was no ordinary UFO, it had been transmitting some unusually heavy PSI signals and the Director had wanted his best to investigate.

The Commander moved forward, swiftly but cautiously towards the entrance to the massive hull of the ship. The team took their positions, it was a reflex now, as intuitive as tying a shoelace , two on either side, two in front. The Commander began the countdown.

"10.....9.....8...."

A large rumbling was felt beneath them, some of the men looked nervously around. They didn't like how the mission felt, too out of the ordinary, too many variables and not enough tanks.

"2...1... Go!"
**********************************************************************************

Kasai sat in his dark office, overlooking the main floor of the base.

RusCom was the youngest base belonging to the X-Com initiative. It was dedicated solely to protecting the large, wintry, god-forsaken expanse of land that was Russia. The base itself was a mockery and it had only been hastily erected because the damn Ruskies had threatened to cut X-Com funding otherwise.

The Director had reluctantly agreed and put Kasai, one of his most promising new officers, in-charge of the bases construction and subsequent operation. The Director had spoken of it as a great honour and a brilliant career move for him, so why did the move feel like a shitty dead end?

Kasai ceased his self pity and returned to the laborious job of searching through the almost countless dossiers of the many applicants.

'Its not bad enough that I have to start my own base, I have to recruit and train up some rookies aswell'

Finally he sat back, he was as content as he could be with the applicants he had chosen, now he just had to juggle the thousands of other problems that presented themselves to him at almost every turn.

'The joys of responsibility'

**************************************************************************************************************
1997, reports of UFOs appearances and abductions become common place.

The world is in panic

Leaders of the most powerful superpowers on Earth convene in Switzerland to come up with a solution to the alien threat.

They came up with X-Com

Founded in 1999 and headed by one of Earth's greatest thinkers known only as The Director. X-Com has worked tirelessly to combat the alien menace, developing many devices and technologies in the short 8 months they have been operational. As part of the deal between the superpowers, X-Com was to build one of its bases in Russia.

Kasai Takeada was chosen to be the head of the new base and has just picked YOU as one of the newest recruits into the fight for Earth.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow that was a lot to write!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the X-Com : Fight for Earth RP thread! I'd like to state before I get carried away, that this is my very first time GMing an RP and so if I seem a little inexperienced and confused, rest assured I am.

To audition for this Rp is simple, fill out the char-sheet as creatively (yet realistically) as you can and I'll get back to you. I'll be accepting on basis of writing ability and good characters but I will also favour Rpers I know, don't despair if I've never heard of you however, if your sheet is good then you have as good a chance as anyone else.

If you want to know if a particular Specialization is ok or if a flaw is too extreme just drop me a PM, I'm pretty free and easy with what you can put as long as you don't Gmod.

You will be sent on missions, given objectives and left to complete them as you see fit (within the bounds of realism), players will also get the opportunity to be placed on the teams chain of command, an extra incentive for completing objectives and going beyond the call of duty.

BUT!

Before you decide to go Rambo heed these words of caution, your actions have consequences. You can be fired, cause international incidents, abducted and even killed, so you will need to consider the possible ramifications that your actions may cause.
Put simply, there will be death, shit will hit the fan and things will go tits up.

That is the nature of X-Com, you are facing a technologically superior force, on missions you are usually outnumbered and always out-gunned. Recruits will have to rely on skill to see them through the battles in one peice.

I will not be following the true spirit of the game to a T, for if I did the RP would most likely be empty after the first mission, instead I (unlike the game) shall start things off slow and give the new recruits a chance to get used to battling their alien foes.

In the likely event that your characters bite the dust, I have prepared a contingency. You will have the option to remain in the RP with a different character or you can leave us.

For any other occurrence (Injuries, abduction, severe probing etc) your character is not written out of the story and you will have the option to resume controlling them when they are fighting fit once more.
Name: If you are at a loss as to what this means then this Rp is not for you.

Age: Read above

Sex: (stop snickering!)

Nationality: This is an international effort to combat the alien menace, try to vary where you come from please.

Appearance: Nothing to gruelling. Simply a description of your characters face and body type, you'll all be wearing the same uniform to begin with. I'll also accept pictures.

Specialization: Can you throw a grenade like a Yankee pitcher? Can you run like a Kentucky derby winner? Can you shoot the wings off a fly? Whatever makes your character worthy of joining X-Com is put in here. A maximum of two please.

Vices: None of us are perfect and we each have our own baggage or 'demons' to lug around with us. What's yours? Are you a coward? Do you drink heavily? Tell me your flaws.

Background: What did your character do to get their place on the X-Com team? What military where they part of? Were they even party of the military? (Player roles are restricted to combat)

Name:
Ethan Ryker

Age:
24

Sex:
Male

Nationality: American

Appearance: Ethan stands at around 6'4 and is well built thanks to years of training. He has even toned skin which doesn't have any imperfections what so ever. His piercing blue eyes are the feature he is best known for.

Specialization:
Expert Assault Rifle Marksman
Expert at Explosives

Vices:
Prone to not follow direct orders
Arrogant

Background: The Ryker family always produced military men. Ethan's great grandfather was in World War 1. His grandfather in World War 2 and his father serving in Vietnam. Ethan felt like the only path he had was to enlist. So as soon as he turned 17 he enlisted into the U.S. Army. He rosed through the ranks eventually becoming an Army Ranger declining an opportunity to join Delta Force because "the uniforms weren't cool enough". Eventually Ethan's commanding officer felt that general infantry was a waste of his potential. His natural language talents and quick wit caught the attention of a recruiter for X-Com.

Name:
Horus Storch
Age:
29
Sex:
Anal Male
Nationality:
Egyptian (note: culture wise, I know little. Geographically wise, I know NOTHING)
Appearance:
Medium height and rather masculine. Tanned skin with relativly long black hair and green small eyes. Has a birthmark on his left hand's palm resembling a wing and a tattoo of a bullet on his shoulder.
Specialization:
Reliable.
Courageous.
Handles well under pressure.
Vices:
Shy.
Impossible to amuse.
Doesn't feel to useful at times.
Background: Being a son of a poor family can be hard. Constantly being afraid of starving to death, getting a deadly disease or being killed just because some spoiled brats can. At age 16, the president of Egypt issued a reward policy for working in the army. Without a second thought Horus joined and has been providing for his family ever since. During operation "Sandstorm" where he and a handful of privates were guarding the Egyptian president, he successfully survived 2 days of rebellion assault while waiting for reinforcements. After this event he was promoted to First Lieutenant. More and more, Horus proved to be a loyal soldier in the Egyptian Army and ascended upon the ranks of Major. A few weeks after his promotion, he got a letter from X-Com, inviting him to join their ranks.
Name: Akira Masuyo

Age: 25

Sex: A little bit of both Female

Nationality: Japanese

Appearance: A short, thin women with a slender, though conformable, body shape. Her eyes are a dull, uninteresting shade of gray, sharply contrasting with wavy black hair that has been dyed a bright and noticeable shade of red. Tattoos with a tribal design cover her arms, spiraling across her limbs in a display of black and red ink, starting at her elbows and ending at her wrists. Normally she can be seen wearing a pair of tinted red sunglasses and smiling.

Specialization:
-Excellent in the art of hand to hand combat, whether it be knives, clubs, her fists or far more bizarre (and impractical) weapons.
-Honed agility, reflexes and speed, allowing her to excel in close quarters.

Vices:
-Not entirely aware at all times
-Suicidally brave
-Tends to be childish
-Often too willing to charge in with a knife, rather than stay back and use her rifle.

Background: Born in raised in Tokyo, Akira led a rather bland life with her parents, two bothers, and three sisters. Her grades in school were good, but hardly noticeable, as where she truly excelled in was the world of sports and fitness. She participated in a number of different sports, ranging from wresting to basketball and gymnastics, excelling in all with flying colors.

Upon graduating school, however, she couldn't continue with school for the reasons of not having enough money to go to college or join a team. So, she choose the next best thing: the military. What better competition than a fight for your very life?

Fortunately for her, she was just as good as fighting as she was at sports, though never was able to grasp the concept of staying at a distance and shooting rather than charging in with the sharpest piece of metal she could find and promptly driving that into someone's neck. Needless to say, she was problematic from time to time, but her bravery went unmatched so she was never kicked out, and in fact, eventuality promoted to the reconnaissance branch. Here, she took part in all sorts of stealth and infiltration missions, where knives and the sort were favored above the firearms she was constantly being yelled at for not using, so her abilities weren't going to waste.

Within a few short years, she was hand selected for X-Com for her skill and bravery, despite her own arguments against it.

Name: Corey Oland

Age: 24

Sex: Male

Nationality: Canadian (What? You expected Nepalese?)

Appearance: Short, shaggy, dirty brown hair, deep blue eyes, scar on the left side of his face down the temple to the top of his cheek. He's a tall guy, 6'4" and he's athletic, while slightly above the average weight. He has red, detailed maple leaves tattooed on each of his shoulders, signifying his love of his homeland.

Specialization: Has a cannon for an arm, can throw grenades/flares very long distances.
Downright deadly with his favorite gun, the .475 Wildey Magnum

Vices: He drinks. A lot. Even for a Canadian.
Also he likes the ladies. A lot.

Background: Corey grew up in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, and if you were a kid in Maple Ridge in the 90s, there was only one person you idolized. Larry Walker. Walker, the star outfield of the Expos and Rockies, was born and raise in the town, and all the kids there wanted to follow in his footsteps. Corey was no exception.

There was a problem with Corey's plan. He couldn't hit the ball to save his life. He would go down swinging at most at bats. However, he showed plenty of talent for throwing the the baseball. His coach moved him to pitcher and he started dominating the little league circuit. He only improved as he got older, attracting attention from major league scouts. When he was 17, he was selected in the 9th round of the MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The first couple years were rough for Corey. He spent his time shuttling between the Rookie league in Bradenton, Florida and the Low A league team in State College, Pennsylvania. The only time he ever felt at peace was when he was able to go hunting in the Appalachian forests. His dad took him on many a hunting trips when he was a kid, usually as a reward for playing so well. While the hunting rifles never proved to be his forte, he quickly took to his dad's sidearm, the Wildey Magnum. The bullets were big enough that it became his weapon of choice when hunting game.

A couple more years passed and it didn't seem like Corey was getting anywhere. He had established himself with the Single A team in Bradenton, but couldn't stick with the AA team in Altoona, PA. He was starting to get frustrated. One night, after a rough game with the Curve, he was drinking in a bar in Altoona when he decided to indulge his other love. Spotting a brunette, he tried to make some conversation, only to be spotted by the jealous boyfriend coming out of the bathroom shortly after. A fight broke out, quickly turning into a riot when other patrons were brought into the fray. During the fight, the scorned lover connected the remnants of his Red Rock Ale bottle on Corey's face, scarring it nicely. The police came shortly after.

Since he was a foreign citizen at the time of his arrest, Corey was deported. Pittsburgh terminated his contract and he was tried in Canada for his crimes. The judge gave him a choice; jail or military service. Not liking his chances in jail, and seeing an opportunity to give back to his country at the same time, Corey went for the military. He showed his abilities in baseball could transfer to the army, as his rocket arm sent grenades and sticky bombs flying towards their intended target, and his accuracy was excellent after years of aiming at a catcher's mitt. Eventually X-Com got wind of the kid, and drafted him for the squad, and Corey, seeing an opportunity to get out of the army, get some fame, and get back on track towards MLB, accepted the offer.
Name: Groa Marvik

Age: 28

Sex: Female

Nationality: Norwegian

Appearance: Stands at 5' 10 with a slender but toned build. Groa has silky, platinum blonde hair, falling slightly below her shoulder blades, she also has powder blue eyes. Often described as beautiful by her peers.

Specialization: Strategical genius.
Pistol Marksman

Vices: Incredibly vain, feels entitled.
Jaded about others.

Background: Born into a richer family in Norway, Groa was never deprived of whatever she desired. When coming to the age of 17, she was refused a shopping spree in Oslo, as an act of rebellion, she attempted to join the army, only to be denied due to her gender.

As she attempted to leave she was approached by an officer. Said officer was in need of a female agent as a spy, the idea of being a renegade to her parents appealed to her heavily. The training she received under the care of the officer, who came to be known as Major Isaacson, allowed her to see situations from a strategic view as opposed to just as a soldier.

9 years after her appointment as a Norwegian spy and tactician, a higher option was given to her, X-Com. She heartily agreed, the idea of being part of an elite group appealing to her ego more than being a spy.
Name: Marcus Flint

Age: 29

Sex: Male

Nationality: American, specifically Hispanic American.

Appearance: Marcus stands 5'9 with an athletic build and shoulder length unruly black hair. He has a scar running over his right eye which he hides behind a set off green lensed aviators. Finally, he constantly where's a frayed baseball hat sporting the faded logo of a forgotten baseball team.

Specialization: Marcus hand a tough childhood at a young age was forced to learn a simple lesson about survival. From the age of 13, he trained himself to be a thief and by the age of twenty, there wasn't a facility built that he couldn't break or hack his way into. As a supplement to ensuring his survival, Marcus became a firearms expert. Be it a rifle or a handgun, he take it apart for you and teach you how to (to quote the GM) shoot the wings of a fly with it.

Breaking and Entering Expert, Firearms Expert.

Vices: Marcus has two real major flaws, one the result of his childhood (a problem with authority) and one with his specializations (he has trouble resisting a challenge, be it a well secured structure or a new weapon to tackle)

Background: Never one to turn away from a challenge, Marcus hacked his way into a military base seeking to test out one of the newest weapons systems on they were developing. Unfortunately for him, though he executed it perfectly and left no traces, his movements had been monitored by the Director who gave him an ultimatum, join Xcom or take a life sentence.
Name: Katja Fuchs

Age: 28

Sex: female

Nationality: born Austrian, now German citicen

Appearance: Katja sports short, black hair and a pair of very dark (but also dull) blue eyes. She's about 5'5 tall, lithe, and gererally wiry instead of busty--with a fairly flat chest and a distinct lack of curves.

Specialization: She has extrordinary eyesight and hearing, along with patience and a quick, calculating mind. These qualities (paired with the proper training) have turned her into a decent sniper. She's also good at following orders. Very good. If someone puts him/her-self in charge of Katja, the girl will obey.

Vices: She's shy and insecure--to the point where she doubts herself enough to hesitate in a critical moment. Katja does not work well on her own, and always requires a strong hand to lead her and give her a clear order that she will then carry out without hesitating.
Oh. And she has OCD (Obsessive, Compulsive Disorder), though its a mild case. She just showers alot, counts quite a bit, and likes sorting things.
Other small vices would be getting drunk way too quick, applying her training glamed from the soldier days to social situations (awkward), and being rather boring all in all.

Background: There is actually little on record about Katja Fuchs. She holds two citizenships (Austrian and German) and has been a part of the German military since she was old enough. Her military records have her leave an unimpressive trace, up to the point where she was recommended for the X-Com. It's as though a perfectly average soldier was plucked from the masses for something extraordinary; though one might throw away that assumption once seeing her accurate marksmanship.
Name: Ziva David
Age: 30
Sex: Female
Nationality: Israeli
Appearance:

ZivaPHA+PGltZyBzcmM9IiBodHRwOi8vZ2FsdXNhdXN0cmFsaXMuY29tL3dwLWNvbnRlbnQvdXBsb2Fkcy8yMDA5LzA3L3ppdmEuanBnICIgYWx0PSJpbWFnZSIvPjwvcD4=

Specialization: Krav-Maga Black belt (i.e. hand to hand specialist), proficient with most modern arms.
Vices: Doesn't react well to mission failure. Loyal to a fault. (won't break or give up easily if captured) She's likely to put herself in harm's way to protect her teammates.
Background: Born and raised in Israel. The only surviving daughter of the Director of Mossad after losing her sister to a Hamas suicide bomber. Like all Israeli girls she did a mandatory two years in her countries military before getting out and promptly volunteering for Mossad (Israel's CIA). She trained long and hard demanding and getting no preferential treatment on the basis of her gender. Before moving on too and excelling in the field work, completing many (still classified) ops vital to Israel's security. After intercepting word of (and putting an end to) a viable threat from a rogue Hamas cell to a visiting X-Com official, the Prime Minster (at her father's behest) in order to protect his country demanded that Israel be made one of the superpowers on the X-Com council. Another condition (added by her father) was that Ziva was to be the first Israeli X-Com operative

Inventory spoiler in the next post

The classic alien some would say. They are short, fat and resemble a child... A child with a massive head, steely dark eyes and a Plasma pistol. They are the most common alien found operating UFOs and are relativity easy to despatch. Extensive study on them has found that they are a genetically engineered race and seem to be the work force for some greater entity
Now these guys are disgusting! Floaters, put simply, float. They levitate through the air, using some kind of gravitational distortion and carry the heavier types of Plasma weapons and deadly Grav grenades. These are the more rare type of alien and it was speculated (with much optimism) that these were behind the creation of the greys, however it was not to be. Once dissected it was found that their ability to levitate was the result of much surgery and that they had very little brain function beyond move, shoot and kill
Comes in varieties large more conventional bomb and the small hand held device carried by some Floaters. Both can knock out a human using a special ray of light, unknown on our spectrum. X-Com has developed a special set of goggles to counter these nasty devices however and you should be safe.... Just remember to wear them
Using the same special gravity manipulation technology used in their saucers, the aliens have managed to turn it into a weapon. It creates a temporary gravitational distortion in a small area and then suddenly restores three times the gravity to that same spot, crushing anything caught in its sphere of effect. Luckily its range is limited to a few feet and can be avoided relativity simply, however once you are caught in its effective range you are screwed.
Plasma weapons, large and small all have the same basic principal. An unknown, superheated element shot out of the end of a highly accurate weapon means trouble. All encountered aliens use these weapons and they are highly effective at melting through any surface, be it rock, metal or flesh. It takes time to melt through certain objects however and staying in cover is the best strategy when up against them. They are incredibly accurate at even long ranges and the plasma travels fast, however it can be spotted easily for its neon brightness. X-Com has yet to recover one of these weapons, whenever they are dropped by the enemy they seem to melt due to the intense heat inside them, recovering one has been one of X-Coms top priorities for months now

Strategic mastermind

He worked for years under The Director, the head of the global X-Com initiative and has finally been put in charge of his own base, however out of the way and crummy it is. He has taken it upon himself to overcome the challenges of running the base and show The Director that he has what it takes to handle tougher postings.
Name: Megan Gutteramsberg

Age: 28

Sex: F

He can pilot jets, helicopters, commercial planes, the list goes on, if you can think of it he can fly it. He was picked for X-Com for his astounding service record and tales of extreme skill. Many thought he was destined to pilot the SkyHawks for one of the major bases like AsiaCom or EuroCom but alas, his reluctance to respect authority saw him getting handed over for promotion after promotion.

In his thirties he was replaced with a much younger man on the team and was stuck training raw recruits for the next ten years. X-Com offered him a place when it had just been founded and he's been with them ever since. He's the only one at RusCom, other than Kasai, to see an alien and he's the only person on the base to have ever engaged with one. He was sent to RusCom due to a major falling out with one of his superior officers when questioned about retirement, this old dog has some bark in him yet.

Inventory limits shall rise and fall depending on your specialisations and current status

I got a question? Will we all have the same generic load out when it comes to weapons and gear or do we each have our own personal armament?

Edit: I changed his second specialty.

@Soul: When the Rp begins there will be the generic selection of gear to choose from. Shotguns, rifles etc but as it moves on then we will get more gear to play with. So basically, yes you get to choose your loadout.

[HEADING=1]The RusCom base picture is up![/HEADING] And I'll be deciding on the new recruits over the weekend, to give others a chance to type up sheets.

Nope, it'll be pretty self explanatory... A paramilitary organisation battling a seemingly unstoppable alien force. The X-com stuff is just little nods and winks to the game.

What's this "and even killed" nonsense? It's X-Com, you might as well have everyone draw up a squad of back-up characters given the typical mission casualty rates of that game setting.

Argh! Its just until sunday then I change to this...
As for reserves,I'm not doing them. I'll of course wait for anyone that shows an interest but I'm accepting sheet on the basis of writing ability, prior experience with the player and how I think the characters will mesh (or not). I'll announce the chosen this weekend. Any that don't make it in will be kept on a reserve list to fill in for the dropper-outers.

@Slycne: Thats one of the main problems with the premise of the Rp, alot of NPC's will die and there will be Many injuries.

Anything that needs to be changed etc, give me a shout.

I will try to get a sheet up while I'm on vacation Big. If I miss the cut off then I wish you luck in your first attempt at GMing. If I can net a reserve that would be fantastic.

Ooh new people!

@Axle: I'll keep your sheet as a replacement for any dropper-outers or deaths.

Ok OP is updated with...

A better map- It didn't make sense for such a dump to have a laboratory (yet) and no medi-bay, so here it is!

Death, Injuries and other unpleasantness- A short explanation of what happens when you pop your clogs.

Victor Makarovsky- The grizzled veteran that will be team leader for the first few missions.

Added submitted and pending sheets to the OP- So you can see who you are up against.

I'm starting a user group for suggestions and general discussion about the RP. The people that make it in AND the reserves will be invited to join.

This is not a bump :p
