If you are lending a game to a friend, why not just log onto your profile on your friends console, so that the game, which is locked to your profile, will be able to be played there?
One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention is that the Kinect which has to always be on will just automagically sign you into your account and not your friends as soon as it sees you. You won't be able to play on your friends account anyway...

OT: It seems as though M$ is just making this shit up as it goes along. I wouldn't be surprised if at E3 or before they retcon some of the other crap they tried pulling. Either way, I know their intent and won't be getting one of there Xbones.

What makes you think they won't patch the system before they shut down the servers?
Well it depends on whether or not that's even feasible. Apparently when the xbone is connected to the cloud it's 4 times as powerful, so if games are built with that power in mind then they wont work because the system is too weak without the cloud.

On the other hand if the servers do go down because of say a hack job will the Xbox One be worthless?
No because a hacker bringing the servers down wouldn't be permanent.

Just remember that this is a worldwide release, so that means they'll have to make deals with every single retail business in the world! That includes big chain retailers, independent game stores, second hand electronics stores, good-wills, the list goes on, it's just not possible to do!
lol no they don't.

I mean, they should, if they were decent human beings.

But I'd be surprised if any store other then Gamestop and it's local equivelences are "licensed" to sell used Xbone games. I mean, they have no problem issuing us "licenses" to play the games, I imagine they'll hold the licenses to sell them on a pretty strict leash.

anyone else? Nope, those aren't games, they're installation assistants. Feel free to purchase the game you just installed, friend, and valued customer.

What I meant was would it be worthless until they fix the servers?
Yes, as even singleplayer games will only work within 24 hours of the last online connection.

It's all for a good reason though, who cares if legitimate customers suffer when they can stop people lending their games to dirty scum who didn't pay for them?

...It doesn't say anything about periodic checks (such as with the Xbone) and it could be very possible that they will implement those...
Nope, Sony have confirmed - as I said in my post - multiple times that the Playstation will not have an internet requirement of any kind. In the latest edition of Game Informer, dubbed the PS4 Edition, they speak with the Head of Sony's Playstation studios, and he confirms - without uncertainty - that the Playstation will not have an internet requirement of any kind. No periodic checks. No constant connection.
You do not need the internet to use a Playstation 4 at all, in any capacity.
If that's the case then either Sony has to be REALLY creative or they won't be able to block used game sales in any meaningful way, not anymore than the current online pass system(Hiding the multiplayer component/a bunch of nice extras behind a ten dollar wall but allowing you to play the core game) Not ideal but could be worse.

Huh, E3 might turn out to be interesting after all.

Not sold at all. Literally they need to just pray to the sun or something to get people to buy this system.

Well, it's not so much the "fuck used gamers" thing, it's the "Fuck every gamer with Always On DRM" thing.
That's pretty much how it is. I'm quite impressed actually. I didn't think it was possible to make any sort of DRM that was worse than an online pass-code.
At least not on a console anyway.
There's an absolutely shocking amount of awful on display in the Xbone
